There is a difference between gamers and obnoxious 13 year old trolls from /v/ and Jim should know that instead of accusing everyone. Also we are taking these threats a bit too seriously I think.

Ahah, this is speaks volumes to me of the childishness surrounding the gaming industry and internet. A little boy resides behind the transparent death threat. A little boy in a mans body, aching for a violent outburst or to lose his virginity to equally desperate female. A consequence of perpetual sadness & anxiety, eventually you become angry and sexually frustrated.

After you experience true excitement, face death itself, you realize that all those things you held true are rendered meaningless. The only thing that truly matters is ones own personal freedom. To be free from the shackles of modern day pressures, to the let the beast within out of its cage.

But don't forget about your morals. Without morals we are no better than the animals we eat. To be free and to do so while holding onto your morals, the thing that binds people together... is ideal.

My recommendation: go beat someone up and get laid.. or get beaten up.

It's....A joke. You take the less expected part of a statement and run with it.

Like the Ghostbusters "this man has no dick" joke.

I've seen weirder sex toys, for the record.

Any kind of threats and insults is just not warranted.
Threats and insults should not be put in the same breath when it comes to condemnation. That's part of my problem: the repeated equation of threats, which Fish never got, and insults, which are still protected speech.

Claims to harm vs being a jerk. Two massively different things. And while both might be "uncalled for," one is being a bully and one is merely being a jerk.

Man, threatening the person themself is bad enough. Threatening their kids too is just horrible. Hopefully some lessons can be learned here.
Looking at the responses, I would think the lesson learned would be "people are largely okay with this," and that's how bullies work. They operate within the lines of socially acceptable behaviour.

Honestly, I think the uproar was very telling. I mean, most people would just laugh a comment like that off. I could open up any comment section or forum anywhere and find people being called far worse.
I thought the burn was funny, since most of the comments were aimed at her being a woman anyway.

But gamers do tend to be massively insecure. We court the childish, it seems. It's not surprising that gamers can't take comments more innocuous than the ones they fire off.

Sitting there eating 60 dollar sandwich while complaining about how poorly it was made doesn't make you look smart or interesting, it makes you look like a spoiled punk that enjoys the sound of his (or her) own voice.
No, it looks like you're talking about the nature of a commercial product from a commercial sense. This is totally legitimate, for the record.

Well to be fair, she was a shitty writer and took criticism on biowere forums with ban hummers to the max. This does not however excuses threats and bullying, but what else can you except when you ban conversation.
She was a decent writer, as I mentioned in my above post, she did a lot of the writing for Tuchanka and the Sith Warrior questline in TOR.

She's not exactly a brand new JRR Tolkien here but shes a good writer at least.
I have to disagree on her writing skills at least when it comes to DA2 and ME3, since her greatest contributions were poorly written romance plots and insultingly simplistic gay romances. Hell, the small slaver escapee side mission that took about 3 minutes in ME1 was written better than anything in ME3. Tuchanka was written extremely weakly, deus ex machina, heavy handed exposition everywhere and poorly written girl-power speech to top it all. She is a fanfic writer who got her job as a script writer through her husband. Maybe she got better in TOR, but i highly doubt it.
Except none of that is really the point.

If you don't think she's a good writer, don't buy games she has written for. Bioware isn't a government, you don't vote these people into their positions, you have no place to demand it be done a certain way or that certain people be fired. You vote with your wallet.

It seems like you played enough of ME3 which means you probably bought it or at least played it by getting it from a friend or rental place. Sitting there eating 60 dollar sandwich while complaining about how poorly it was made doesn't make you look smart or interesting, it makes you look like a spoiled punk that enjoys the sound of his (or her) own voice.
You make no scene what so ever kiddo. By your logic criticism is obsolete and useless because criticising something that you don't like is "you look like a spoiled punk that enjoys the sound of his (or her) own voice." It's the other way around actually. You can't criticise a movie without watching it, you cant criticise a book without reading it and you can't criticise a game without playing it. Besides, people wanted her fired not because she is a bad writer, but because she is a gigantic narcissist who answers to any form of criticism with unbelievable hostility, self victimization and crocodile tiers. Hell, the death threats could be from self-written as far as we know. As for voting with my wallet, I do that after being burned twice (DA2 and ME3), but those two games have bigger problems than sloppy writing, the writing is just a rotten cherry on top of gigantic pile of god knows what.
P.S. Are you one of biowere forum moderators? You would fit right in, they used exactly the same arguments and banned anyone who dared to bring up valid criticism.

Oh of course, I was just playing along with the joke. The triple headed vibrator chastity belt beats the dragon tongue dildo, but that is hardly relevant to the joke is it?

Also what else is there to talk about? That is really all you said directed at me and quoted from my earlier posts.

There was literally nothing to discuss with you except playing the joke out.

Other than that what else can I say? Scummy gamers are scummy, bad slashfick writer is bad slashfick writer who managed to land a lead writer job and Bioware is on a sharp steep rampaging decline into the ground because they get their stories written by complete hacks and people that write slashficks.

Yeah, that's literally what happened here.

This thread is still going?

So I guess in your view this means that anyone who was planning to go out and have a nice dinner should instead stay home and fast or they will be guilty contributing to kids starving in Africa?

Should the movie house I visited last night have run a disclaimer before the film saying "Welcome to the show, while you sit here in total comfort enjoying your overpriced snacks and drink, we'd like to remind you that innocent people are dying in Syria and Egypt, we hope you feel bad about having a good time you cold heartless bastards."

In all seriousness when did people who play video games lose their right to autonomy?

3 minutes of sarcasm followed by 4 minutes of saying the same thing over and over again. Felt like a waste of time. I mean, nobody that's made a death threat has ever or will ever watch this video, and even if they do making a video saying "don't punish game makers for doing gamey things" doesn't really say anything important or something that they already didn't know. They were just being stupid internet trolls doing stupid internet things, they know making death threats is stupid and disgusting. The video seemed like seven minutes of fluff.

Seriously, what the blue hell is wrong with some people?

If anyone is responsible for gaming's inability to be accepted as a form of art or literature, the Live generation is that cause.

Hey Jim, not really on topic but somethings been bugging me and wasn't sure how to get it to your attention, so I'll just post it here.

The whole recent sex toy thing in your videos. I thought your show was about video games. I don't see what sex toys and gaming really have in common. Now that doesn't mean I'm offended by you showing or talking about them, in fact I find the whole thing incredibly hilarious. And the mention of the Dragon tongue dil informed me that there was an entire subculture I had no idea existed. Kind of blew my mind. However just like the whole floppy giant tits in Dragon's Crown controversy where although I'm not offended by them, someone else probably is, maybe you should start looking at the whole dildo thing in the same light. Again while I'm not bothered by them I'd be willing to bet there are other viewers who find them unsettling or even embarrassing and maybe we should think of their feelings.

Now I'm not saying you shouldn't be talking about them at all, just that maybe Jim Quisition isn't the proper place for them. Heck it could be a start of a whole new segment for you here. Something like Jim's Wacky Dildo Discoveries Of The Week or something.

Felt a bit confrontational given I've been gone for the week!

I'm really rather surprised this is a thing.

I mean, sure, I didn't think much of DA2's story. But, jesus.

It wasn't -that- bad.

Holy shit, Jim: nice rant.

Honestly, I think it's a bigger problem than self-entitled gamers being little twats to developers. I think it's this generation Z+1 or whatever the Hell they're calling themselves these days. They seem extremely self-entitled about damn near anything, and I think it has a lot to do with how they're too used to abusing Internet anonymity.

Dollars to donuts, whoever made this death threat was probably 14 years old, or less, but what can you expect to do about it when there's billions of people in the planet? Your email box is bound to get a ugly little deposit of some of those little brats' brainless rage.

The only real solution I could think is to empower our cops to do something about it. Because, last I checked, death threats are serious business [http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/internet/teens-arrested-facebook-death-threats], and the only thing stopping law enforcement from tracing the IP address right back to the point of origin is too many death threats, too little manpower.

Should I make videos speaking out about public nudity, and why it's wrong?

What the fuck is this? MAYBE 1% of the people watching this badmouth developers. and 1% of that crowd might escalate to death threats. I guarantee Ben Affleck, and Zack Snyder are receiving more death threats than the entire game development community has ever received..every hour, on the hour right now. That film, for better or worse is still gonna happen boys.

Next week on Jimquisition: Drink you milk, love your mother, and go to school!

This isn't about yelling at idiots that make these threats. Well, okay, yes it is, but it isn't ONLY about that. It's about a gaming community that seems to accept this as the norm. Posts like yours, which belittle it and make it sound like it's not an issue make it that much easier for this sort of idiocy to continue. Sure, YOU'RE not making those retarded posts, and you'd never consider it. But saying it's not an issue means it's that much easier for the slime that do make them.

And no, when movie actors get death threats, that tends to make the news.

You do realise you're also threatening people, which makes you as bad as them.

I'm always amazed that people who condemn violence seem to believe that that it's acceptable when they're inflicting this violence.
As someone already pointed out, hoping for legal action doesn't mean I want violence upon them.

Watching this video feels like Jim ranting at me for the actions of the actions of some stupid trolls I'd kick in the fork if I could. Try directing your rage better Jim. :p

To be honest, I was unimpressed by this episode. These feel like things that go without saying, and I honestly don't believe that the sort of behaviour described is the sort of behaviour displayed by people who view this show. I like you best when you pick on something that lots of people try to justify; I don't see many developer death threat apologists.
