I do hate how EA has changed... and they're games are still (mostly) a lot of fun. I'm still enjoying ME3 and BF3 immensely. I just shake my head at the bonehead decisions they make.

Also, I'd like the t-shirt, Jim-er-roo :)

EA can change everything. If they actually try and change and stop being hypocritical bastards. The biggest problem with IGN's article is as pointed out is that they asked EA and not someone else that isn't in EA's pocket and risking their job for saying bad stuff about EA.

(Also I would like the shirt)
You're right, EA can change. But at this point it would take too long to be worth their while, they would end up losing revenue for the sake of PR, but good PR doesn't happen over night.

(I want that shirt you sexy beast (but sadly I live in the UK)).

Um, wasn't Valve the corporation that that snuck code to identify pirated copies into Gary's Mod and then ran a sting operation via Twitter that banned accounts?

Don't they ban forum users that discuss ways to hack supplimental DRM like GFW:L out of games they already own for piracy?

Sorry Jim, no consumer loyalty here, they're just the less-est evil and have the best sales.

[I would like the Gravity Rush shirt that's not sexy enough for Jim, please]

Started playing Sims 2 again. Looked up Sims 3 on Steam out of curiosity and was horrified at the prices. The game itself is fine, so is the expansions and extensions... just the whole mass of stuff is horrifying. Yes you can buy only a few, but that won't happen. As a gamer we always want the most we can get, and we will always be tempted by the extra stuff. It's efficient business practise from them, but it's sodding well evil.

People wonder why people pirate media. Unavailability and unreasonable pricing is the reason why people pirate.

So I got my EA account banned permanently three months ago. I wasn't given a warning or reason. Upon sending a question as to WHY I was banned, which was a day after the banning, I never got a response back. I had a lot of money put into Battlefield heroes (the game is pay to win, so noboody should be surprised). Dammit. Screw you, EA.

Fun Fact: The Consumerist took a poll and ended up with EA as Worst Company in America of 2012. Against First Bank of America, too.

Actually, now you mention it, It really is tough to remember what it is about Activision we hated so much. Off the top of my head...they torture game franchises out of relevance. Compared to all the bullshit EA has done, Activision almost seem like the scrappy, humble underdog.
Dafuq happened?

And, if you're offering,
(I would like a Gravity Rush T-shirt, and Jim is sexy?)

BTW, if you've got a vita, Gravity Rush is pretty great.
As I recall, there were really only two factors to begin with:

1. For a while, Bobby Kotick was running his mouth and saying INSANELY stupid things that pissed people off.

2. Call of Duty. It is popular and the best-selling game every year (constantly breaking it's own sales record). As we all know, if something is popular, it sucks. And since Activision publishes the popular game, they suck.

Of course, number one no longer exists. Good ol' Bobby finally learned to shut up a while back, so it's pretty much people just being immature little twats who hate Call of Duty because it's popular and hate Activision because they publish Call of Duty.

And I guess some people are mad about canceling the new True Crime game or something, but I don't care about that. It's being made by United Front Games, a developer that has already proven themselves to be incompetent. I'm sure once the renamed Sleeping Dogs finally comes out, people will see what an utter mess it is and realize that Activision was right in canceling it all along. Not surprising that Square Enix picked the game up either, as all Square Enix does anymore is waste money. They usually only do it on games that have "Final Fantasy" in the title, though.
Well, I don't really think that's fair, what about Assassins Creed? People don't hate Ubisoft for publishing that, and Assassins Creed is incredibly popular, and the same can be said of Bethesda or Valve. I'm sure people dislike Activision because of the developers they've ran into the ground, like Bizarre Creations, or the beloved franchises they've tired out long before their time, CoD, Tony Hawks, Spider-Man, Spyro, and lots more.
Some people do hate things specifically because they're popular, but I think it's unfair to say it's the main reason, in this case at least.

Why do you keep hating on DRM for games that aren't PC exclusive.
The PC market has been a lost cause since about 07, DRM on games that are also available on consoles is just developers pushing you to make the jump along with everyone else.
For PC exclusives like Spore though, there is no excuse.

What stokes my rage furnace the most is how this company just doesn't give a shit about their customers or videogamers in general. I never thought I'd live to see the day where gamers have their hobby exploited wholesale by corporate demons, shareholders and IP eaters who've never even played a videogame in their lives and thus quite logically can't run a business for videogames. You're not a decent business if your sole motivation is greed.

Jimster, we love you 'cause there's a lotta you to love. <3

And that doesn't even include the online store, which had hundreds of dollars worth of day one DLC on release for The Sims 3. You could probably spend over a thousand dollars just to get every bit of content in that game at its full price. Absolutely insane.

That's the thing about EA. As you pointed out, they're a legion of everything that's wrong with gaming, but they didn't actually create any of it. They can't even be innovative in their evil! It's like they've set out to ruin the industry in the laziest fucking way possible. Down-right baffling.

[Also, I would like a shirt Jim, you sexy, sexy beast you.]

(Note that I used proper brackets instead of parentheses. I feel that should weigh things in my favor, personally, but it's your call ye God-Sent Nega-Santa.)

Howdy, Jim. Congrats on another stimulating episode that makes me loathe the gaming media.
Last week's offering was also in reaction to IGN tomfoolery: the non-troversy surrounding Hitman: Absolution's trailer. One person, Keza MacDonald, wrote an article reading far too far into a piece of deliberate marketing trying to present its game as an over-the-top grindhouse affair, and suddenly there was a controversy. I was only able to find one other blogger upset by the trailer, and some guy tweeted about it. Everything else was talking about the article, not the trailer. The gamers who complained were mostly fans of the franchise who disagreed with the tone of the trailer. There was no torch-and-pitchfork PC mob, only people who were told by a columnist that they should be outraged. I was flabbergasted that one article constituted a controversy so powerful that it prompted an apologetic statement from the game director!
That episode, and this one as well, got me thinking about how ridiculously monolithic the game industry media is. While there are a multitude of quality sites with content about games (The Escapist and Destructoid included), when it comes to the actual feed of trailers, announcements, and industry happenings, IGN is the principle source, while the others serve up old news second-hand. I've taken reluctantly to visiting IGN on a daily basis because it is the only comprehensive source of game news. However, I continue to find their original content unbelievably sophomoric and insulting in its simplicity. They seem to have no respect for the intelligence of the members of their community.
I guess what I'm saying is, since you've so vigilantly explored the bullshit tactics of game corporations, I'd like to hear your take on the state of the gaming press. Maybe it would be unprofessional for a content provider of your caliber to verbally beat the stuffing out of IGN, but a guy can dream.

[I would like a Gravity Rush shirt, please. [Also, Jim is sexy [LET ME HAVE YOUR BABIES]]]

Every time I have to enter a code to play the game I just bought I die a little inside. When I can't connect to an EA server, even if I'm playing single player, I have to really try not breaking things. I'm not sure who was the first person to suggest online passes but I'd like to use a time machine and go back in time and push him in front of a bus.

(I would like the Gravity Rush T-shirt. Jim is quite possibly the sexiest man who ever lived. Next to him Tom Cruise and Bradley Cooper look like a rock with some googly eyes glued on.)

I really like the points in the episode, about how EA was humble in the past and its comparison to Activision.

Well, it looks like I won't be buying any EA products anytime soon. Not that they've been trying to sell anything to me that I actually want.

[Jim is sexy. On a completely unrelated note, I'm too tall to wear an L. :(]

5 million copies of a watered down all ready watered down "horror" shooter. Good luck with that one - if I were to take that kind of financial risk I would be sectioned.

[I would enjoy a gravity t-shirt please - also.. jim is sexy]
