While it is ironic that 'Jocks' have now begun to get into games and other stuff that was typically 'nerd teritory' I wouldn't say that it's any reason for anger or alarm.

I can see how this proverbial 'it's alright now, you're cool too' might come across as a slap in the face to more 'hardcore' gamers since they didn't go through the same social exclusion and angst we did yet they can still play nice with us (it's even worse is said 'meathead' gave you abuse previously) but I still don't think it's a major issue.

No not like that exactly it's kind of hard to explain but people who would any day of the week make fun of you and pick on you for playing a video game but then they go home and playing halo for 4 hours. It just doesn't make sense.
I suggest you ignore them until you graduate from school. You'll find that all the bullying and embarrassment will magically disappear.

I was a bit surprised to see my more athletic friends getting into RPGs (Fallout 3, Fable 2. The high profile stuff, mostly), but I don't have a problem with it at all. If anything, I'm glad that more people are appreciating one of my favorite things to do. I don't consider myself a super-duper hardcore gamer or a jock, but I played sports in high school, and played a ton of video games. There's no reason someone can't do both.

that's the thing I'm not bullied or harassed it's actually the opposite I have a brother in my high school that is like some sort of legend that for some reason makes me immune to it. But this is more of a observation of what is happening.

Ah - well those guys are tossers anyway, you can't expect them not to be hypocrites on top of that... :)[/quote]

I like you. :)

To the OP: Be really careful that you don't paint yourself with the same brush that many retro gamers do today. Lots of retro gamers ***** and moan that games today are too easy and offer no challenge, when they really just hate that gaming is mainstream and all kinds of people can beat games now.

I know that's probably not what you mean, but just be careful how you word things. I agree with you, though I've never really run into an overly hypocritical jock before...just mildly.

I was never pushed around by jocks. Hell, I just had a 10 minute discussion with my rugby club about our Total War strategies.

If they want to play, let them. More cattle to crush under the heel of my empires forces.

I find that jocks tend to like crappy games(such as Halo) and crappy gaming systems(such as Xbox), so it does not bother me at all. At one point in history only intellectuals knew how to rebuild an internal combustion engine now most would never want to touch one and most people who do are not intellectuals. This is just how stuff goes don?t be surprised . Though if you think Halo is what ?real? gamers play you will probably be surprised by a lot.

Agreed with your serious point. Also funny story, I was a really scrawny nerd and i was picked on ALOT by the jocks, which got me to lifting weights which got me into body building. needless to say now i dwarf pretty much all of the people that used to pick on me. Still a nerd though, just a really big one.

I play baseball, basketball, and football (pretty good at all 3 I might add), and I have been gaming since I was 4 years old.

I am both a gamer and a sportsman. But at the same time I am neither a jock or a prick online.
I play cricket (for you how don't know it is a Commonwealth sport, look it up) which not many jocks play. So I am totally the opposite person you are talking about. But I get your point, and many of the jocks who play are complete dickheads, so don't pay attention.
