I hate these News titles. And pointless "hey, a famous person likes a game" 'news' for that matter. But hey...

Anyway, yeah, Borderlands 2 is awesome and not surprised he's into it if shooters are his thing. Especially as I imagine he plays it with other people, where Borderlands really shines, there not being many fun multiplayer co-op games.

it's nice that we talk to people from other mediums but what kind of games they like and not just "games yes/no".
so john carpenter likes shooter? well makes sense, now somebody hire him to work on production for a cool horror shooter.

Or maybe team him up with visual genius James Gunn to put together a Borderlands movie.

Just sayin'.

Sorry, I misread the title as: "Man that makes movies has opinion about video games".

Borderlands 2 was literally the same game with a new coat of paint and the fact that it received such high praise by both journalists and gamers is a mystery for me. Maybe I'm still sore over the whole "Gearbox screws us over DNF and A:CM" thing.

A 66-year-old man who works in the medium of motion pictures who doesn't disparage video games as inferior or violence-inducing?

More power to him.

I could see a movie guy really liking the ambivalence of tone that Borderlands 2 has. Boy does it go from wacky to infinite levels of despair on a dime, which is much more than you get from most movies these days (which generally have one emotion: EXPLOSION).

But I like the comparison between Skyrim and BL2. Wide-but-shallow games, but BL2 actually has characters you can care about. The only Skyrim characters I can even remember having personality were your big dragon buddy and the talking dog.

I don't see how this is news worthy, but it is nice to see someone else with Borderlands 2 as their favorite game.

This just in: A person has an opinion! He likes one thing more than another thing!

Next you'll be telling us he prefers Rocky Road Ice Cream to Strawberry!

We're on the cutting edge of breaking news up in here. <_<

It isn't really news worthy, but something's gotta be put up ya know? Kind of how the business runs; if there's no content, people wont come to see the site.

no
just no
give a borderlands movie to zack snyder or whoever does soulless, visually impressive bombast these days.
Borderlands has no interesting stories to tell, it's there for you to shoot people and collect increasingly purple guns. and handsome jack is funny.

edit: ok i just remembered James Gunn did super, if a Borderlands movie is something like that, except super colorful(like Borderlands should be) and you turn all the casual cartoon violence into gruesome Carpenter body horror with nice piratical effects i would be down with that.

I tried Borderlands 2 and just couldn't get into it. Maybe its something that needs to be played with friends, but then again everything is better when friends are involved so I don't know. The "humor" falls flat, the story was all sorts of dumb, and the action itself quickly got repetitive with no context to put it in.
I'ma just echo this statement. I think it's bit of a stretch to say Borderlands is the best game. I could only play it for an hour before I was forcing myself to lay 'because I bought it'.
I feel like a good mindless shooter would be something like Killing Floor.

Heh, unexpected. But the man made Big Trouble in Little China so I could forgive him for liking FPS games.

However, yeah...Dry spell in the news?

I would argue that John Carpenter is one of the most influential people in the gaming... inadvertently.

From the side scrolling beat em ups and Solid Snake from Escape From New York, the body horror of Resident Evil from The Thing, the game tropes, jokes and over the top designs a'la Big Trouble in Little China, They Live, The Fog etc.

So he likes terrible and shallow games? so basically anything like his awful movies. If I want a someone to critique on food I wouldn't ask he guy flipping burgers at McDonalds is all I'm saying.
I don't think I want you to even flip my burgers, man :p

OP: Carpenter has actually stated before that he's a big fan of the Dead Space series as well as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. While none of these are exactly pure-blooded horror games and the whole genre has become indistinguishable from a lot of shooters, he does maintain a taste for horror. I don't think there's anything contradictory about this. Most of his movies are about building and maintaining an ominous atmosphere while letting out scare chords and jump scares at the right time. After all...

lol. good to hear he is a shooter fan. the thing is though, i personally didnt like the first borderlands at all and therefor didnt get part 2. in fact, i dont touch any games when gearbox has its name on it.
and i dont care how many say its awesome. the same thing was said about part 1 and i didnt like it.
Personally, I loathed Borderlands. All my friends raved, and I tried it, but there wasn't enough in it for me. Something about the story, humor, and gameplay convinced me to play Borderlands 2, and I'm glad I did. The original game still sucks, for me anyway. Nor can I say I particularly care for Gearbox. 1 decent game out of 4 that I've played is not a good record.

Glad to see that Carpenter enjoys games, I can see him being into a faster paced game, as opposed to the more slow and methodical Skyrim. I dunno if it needs to be news, but it's cool nonetheless.
