Breaking News: Jonathan Coulton is Still Alive

Anyway, sounds like we might be in for something decent.

Latest Update from Twitter: Lisa Miskovsky is confirmed to also be Still Alive.

I love how the very mentioning of Romero doing something sounds like a most ominous threat.
Probably cause he'll end up tinkering with Doom 4, or Daikatana 2 *cringe*

He's making the Daikatana spinoff everyone's been waiting for:

"Superfly Johnson: the Untold Story"

Set in 1970s Harlem.

Joking aside, this is one of the biggest non-topics I've seen on the Escapist so far.

Seriously.

I'm gonna need some sauce on this.

OP: Happy to see Mr. Romero is still out there.... so long as this doesn't go all Daikatana I'll be happy. I'll probably play it either way.

If its another Quake, I will be so happy...but only if it goes back to its roots and does what it does best. Killing stuff!

Daikatana was better than quake 4 and DOOM 3 and Wallenstein(08)(then again wolf 2 is not that bad as just hella lacking)so I hope whatever it is it good... tho with today's design emphasis's it could well turn out to be like Legendary(shudder shudder) .....

The poor guy. He's been vilified for ten years for nothing more than being ambitious. Ok, he was ambitious and didn't deliver on his promises, but personally I feel it's better to try something big and fail heroically (and he did at least do that, nothing says failing heroically like blowing 80 million dollars on a massive penthouse office and a lamborghini) than to crank out tired sequels and cliched genre games.

The guy will always be worth talking about. He's a legend, and if I had the skills I'd go and work for him in a second. I hope his project works out and he gets back to making the kind of game he should have done years ago.

yea.

make the whole thing like episode one and four though, quake eps 2 and 3 felt like filler.

Okay, yeah, it's a bit of a joke, but I also think it speaks to the man's enduring fame that the mere fact he's doing something, even though we have no idea what, is worth talking about. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but look at it this way: If, a few years from now, this turns out to be the first public step toward the creation of the next Doom (figuratively speaking, of course) then we'll be able to say, wow, we were there, and we've got the snide commentary to prove it.

And I always thought Daikatana was more a victim of extreme overhype than of any real awfulness. Anyone who says it's the worst game they've ever played is fortunate that they've never played any actual bad games.
