Yeah.. plenty of better console exclusives to beg for. Vanquish, Bayonetta... getting Revengeance for the PC has been a good sign.Vault101 said:they might mean GTA5RA92 said:Why beg for Gran Turismo when there's already iRacing, rFactor, X Motor Racing, Project Cars and Assetto Corsa on PC, especially when GT6 is a bit shit?SonOfVoorhees said:Now all you have to do is beg for console games now like GT5 or whatever.
in which case...ehh i'd be nice to have for the people who want it but no big loss overall..nowhere near Red dead anyway

My latest was easy, but then it's like the 5th one I've built. Experience helps.Pheo1386 said:1) my last gaming PC was a b**** to get working. Software updates, hardware updates, it's often that I had to optimise the machine for the game. In consoles, the game has been already optimised for the machine.
This used to be more of a problem than it is now. Just get some good antivirus(for a free option I recommend Avast!) and something that limits websites from sending you malware, like a noscript plugin, or things which cannot be discussed on this forum.Pheo1386 said:2) viruses/malware. I know consoles could be hit by these too but I've had a ps3 for 7 years and not once have I ever had any kind of software/hardware problem. PC has SOMETHING wrong with it on a regular basis
Well you could get a decent one cheaper, but that's what you'd expect for a somewhat future proof one that runs games on high/ultra settings that consoles can't even dream of. You can get a console-equivalent PC for a console-equivalent price(or possibly less), you'd just be stuck playing games on low settings, just like on consoles. Also due to game pricing, I could get 100 good games on the PC for the price of 10 games for the PS4/Vita. Suddenly the PC is looking more economical.Pheo1386 said:3) price. A half decent PC to avoid what I said above? Probably £700-800. I've bought a PS4, PSVita and games on both for that.
Many more exclusives on PC, and cheaper games.Pheo1386 said:And finally 4) exclusives. Last of us, god of war, infamous SS are some truly excellent games. Microsoft exclusives such as Halo, Left4Dead ad Gears of War have just not really compared.
Don't forget that consoles are built with budget components, PS3/4 might not have as much problems as the 360 did(47% hardware failure rate!) but even the PS3 and PS Vita both had a 10% failure rate, we don't have numbers for PS4 yet, as far as I'm aware. Consoles aren't free of hardware problems, but when they happen you can't fix them yourself, like you often can with PC(get replacement part), you're left with a bricked system, which is expensive to send in for repair unless you're still on warranty(PC parts have warranty too), it can often cost as much as just buying a used system.Pheo1386 said:Each to their own, but I've had less problems with my PS3, PS4 and PSVita combined in all the time I had them than I have in a couple of months with a PC.
You're first point is just patently false. Especially in light of today's PC gaming platforms and the current state of console gaming. Notably: day one patches, stability patches, firmware updates, and consoles being bricked by a combination of bad hardware and poorly coded games.Pheo1386 said:snip
Sorry, but this is a user issue, not a platform issue.2) viruses/malware. I know consoles could be hit by these too but I've had a ps3 for 7 years and not once have I ever had any kind of software/hardware problem. PC has SOMETHING wrong with it on a regular basis
This is still a fallacy. And, in the long run, PC gaming winds up being drastically cheaper than console gaming.3) price. A half decent PC to avoid what I said above? Probably £700-800. I've bought a PS4, PSVita and games on both for that.
This is a matter o...wait. Hold on.And finally 4) exclusives. Last of us, god of war, infamous SS are some truly excellent games. Microsoft exclusives such as Halo, Left4Dead ad Gears of War have just not really compared.

Huh-wha?Microsoft exclusives such as Left4Dead
I'm sorry but that list makes me laugh every time I see it brought up. People think it proves that consoles are getting the short end of the stick for exclusives, but it says the exact opposite for me. There are so many good looking games on the console side of things, whereas I have to comb through the PC list to find something that even looks remotely decent to me. The PC side has so much stuff that looks like utter garbage. I always liken it to quality vs quantity, if you want mountains of bad-decent games, PC's got you covered, if you want fewer but better exclusives, consoles are the way to go.MetalDevil said:4) http://i.imgur.com/TCRFBGs.jpg

Admittedly the PC average metacritic score is a hell of a lot higher than I would have guessed it to be. Yes, there are good PC exclusives. I would never dispute that. However, the ratio of garbage to good games is considerably higher than it is on consoles, because it's a lot easier to make games for the PC. If we reviewed and factored in all the free-to-play MMOs, really obscure indie titles, and low budget garbage that flies under the radar and either doesn't get a Metacritic score or not enough reviews for it to count, I would bet you that average would be a lot lower. If we look at all the games that come out on each platform (not just the ones that got reviewed), describing it as quantity vs quality isn't that unfair of an assessment in my book. The Lunatic said:Savo said:I'm sorry but that list makes me laugh every time I see it brought up. What you've said is completely and utterly untrue.
its not hard to avoid if you have anti virus, dont go to dodgey sites and slick on dodgey shit...ot know what you are downloading...Pheo1386 said:2) viruses/malware. After a while out of this thread, I return and it's still exactly the same as where I left off.Signa said:It's hilarious how venomous these conversations get for no reason at all. Guy wants to know how to not waste his money on periph-OMG GAME PLATFORMS!!!!
This is starting to feel like Yahoo answers and the infamous Babby Formed thread.
While I do agree in that the joke has overdone its stay and has been used in a non-ironic/satire way by assholes, I think by context and the general admittance to the person being a newbie we can assume it wasn't meant in any sort of negative fashion, but just a joke to try and break the ice with the crowd. Obviously a few people are unsettled by it, but those typically aren't the people he was aiming a response from. And not to say anyone SHOULDN'T be offended by the joke, but a little bit more diplomacy and passiveness can go a long way if you don't like what someone said. (Not aimed at you, but answering a joke that offended you with a passive aggressive response or an indirect angry response can be the stick that lights the flame)s69-5 said:While I agree that he was asking about what controller to get, it's pretty well known that the "PC Master Race" meme justifiably causes discomfort in some and outright fury in others. It should probably be abandonned completely as it is not really a funny joke at all. It's discriminatory on about the same level as any other form of discrimination (try calling yourself the glorious Aryan master race and see how far you get).gmaverick019 said:he was making a light hearted joke and was simply asking advice on what kind of controllers to get for a pc so he doesn't misspend money on something that won't work well. What other side could you possibly referring to?
I know I'm quite sick of hearing that term thrown around, then defended as if it carries no weight or context, and is just attempted light humour. News Flash if this thread and many others that have devolved into flames in the past have shown: It does carry weight, it is insulting and it is not just light humour, no matter how it is presented.
Yeah there are quite a few pro-pc players than can be elitist dicks, and I think they let their heads get much bigger than they can handle sometimes with how they deliver messages aggressively rather than in a assertive/passive manner, it's unnecessary and I've seen it more in abundance from pc people. That being said, some if not alot of the answers in here do back up their responses with facts and links to their sources, which is why I think sometimes some "dicks" get rattled up, trying to use objective facts on subjective views and vise versa. And no, PC gamers were never called "elitist" because they played "more complicated games" as someone suggested. That's complete BS. The reason some PC gamers are called elitist, is because the shoe fits with a significant enough portion of the PC gaming community. It's not everyone, but there are still many who do fit that description.
appreciate the civility. This is obviously not aimed at you Maverick, but I've dealt with this going back decades, as the concept that PC gamers are better than Console gamers is really not a new thing and it is very tiresome.
Now, I'm out. I chose to speak to you since I know you're one of the more level-headed on the Escapist, but I won't be responding to this thread any further.
