For those who don't know, Jonathan Creek is a detective series about a stage magician who investigates weird crimes, often attributed to supernatural means, to debunk the irrational thinking. The actual series stopped a long time ago but there's a one off episode most years. The quality is generally considered to be very high and it's well respected BBC series.

Did anyone here catch the latest episode? It was full out insane, I'm not sure what went on but it was one more twist away from being the work of someone who snapped and decided to take everyone with him.

Plot summary
So a super smart scientific atheistic former comedian with only a couple of months left to live and whose wife was cheating on him with his doctor made a comedy sketch about faked footage of (presumably) politicians and media types cutting backroom deals. Some politician saw the footage, assumed it was real and immediately ordered a hit on all people who had ever seen the footage. The people did the hit by dismembering a chain saw and hoping the guy would accidentally cut his head off with it during one of his secret midnight stage magic practising sessions, which he did, and the guy beside him was scared people would blame him, so he called up his girlfriend who'd found him cheating on her with Jonathan Creek's friend.

His girlfriend immediately decided the only sensible thing to do would be to make a fake body out of clothes and towels and stick her fathers actual head on it and then chuck it back out of a window so that she could create a mystery which might make her mother religious before she died (her mother had been drugged by nuns who then touched her fingertips through a painting of St Barnabas as a child and was now firmly atheist. Also she used to belong to a witches coven that accidentally killed a fellow pupil whilst hazing her)

Creek figured this all out, because a globe was twisted sometime between seeing the body and the body vanishing and 'the only thing you need to create a body is a head'.

At the end it turns out said politicians who'd seen the comedy sketch had also managed to infiltrate the police unit investigating with their agents and those agents tried to burn to death Jonathan Creek, his wife and some by standings to death in the office of a top advertising company to (?) cover their traces? But the petrol had been switched with apple juice and then a man who only had mobility in one finger on one hand beat them up with his chair

Also at one point someone says 'We didn't know she was allergic to ... BEES' with a full on dramatic zoom.

Normally I'm fairly impressed when people manage to solve the plots to Jonathan Creek episodes and the like early on. This time I'd be severely worried about their sanity

hold on a second..this show still exists? I thought it only continued in the form of Stephen Fry mocking Alan Davies on QI.

Just add that Johnathan Creek is played by Alan Davies of QI fame, that'll get the ball rolling.

As for the murder mystery, I prefer Midsummer Murders even though they replaced Barnaby. With the large death toll per episode you can easily place bets on who the murder is or who will be killed off next. Of course then you have to wonder how those little English villages survive with their populations be decimated by stabbings and bludgeoning's that keep on happening.

I know I watched it and it was insane. The best part was there wasn't even a bee in the jar it was a wasp...

There used to be pretty impressive and full of sense plots to Jonathan Creek I have NO IDEA why a woman would take her dad's head and start messing around with it.

Best line 'I felt like it was some sort of test' YEAH TEST FOR YOUR SANITY YOU CRAZY BOTCH.

Also I hated the fact that they changed Jonathan so much. It's like why? Does everyone have to be a corporate slave or something.

I used to be able to figure out the Jonathan Creeks but now I was just like...whut. The only thing I figured out was that the lasses had killed their mate.

His friend was the best thing about it. I like her.

Cthulu keeps appearing in my escapist background...I don't understand :<

Aww, this show isn't on Netflix instant streaming, so it looks like I probably won't get to watch it.

I think the wasp subplot was probably the best part, it's not so ridiculous and it the answer feels fair, I'm impressed that you figured out who killed who though, I didn't get much beyond guessing the drugging bit

Yeah the part with the girls made the most sense. I have a feeling that it, and the lsd thing was meant to be the original plot but then they dumped crazy ass locked room mystery on top of it.

I think the worst thing is I really can't relate at all to what the daughter did. In no way can I see anyone reacting like that to a death especially given how it happened.

I really didn't like it. Rik Mayall's acting felt really off too.

Eh, Jonathan Creek lost most of it's sparkle after it's second series when it lost the grounded, downtrodden 90s vibe it had. I spent most of this last episode feeling everything had gone horribly wrong (Married? No windmill? Creek gave up sleuthing? Where are you Adam Klaus?) until Creek got his old coat out and things picked up somewhat from there. I guess overall it was ok, his 'companion girl' is still completely bland as fuck though.

It would have been a good episode if there hadn't been three completely unrelated subplots! I managed to guess the LSD & part of the photo mystery, although was caught completely unaware by the end because it was just ridiculous.

I know what you mean. When I was typing out the plot summary I realised this was the actual bleeding freshly dead head of her father she was manhandling around. She was completely cool throughout the whole thing and scheming for a really weird reason anyway
