No, Joss! No! You still have two more Avengers movies to work on!! :p

But seriously, if he was locked to direct a Star Wars: Rebels-like movie, then maybe that might peak my interest... Otherwise, I would be indifferent to a Whedon-directed Star Wars movie until I see it first-hand...

I wish they'd given the entirety of Star Wars to him instead of Jar Jar. Given his track record with Marvel, he would have been much less likely to kill the EU. It would have been easy to build original content in the EU universe at any point in the timeline.
It wasn't JJ Abrams' decision to retcon the EU, it was Disney's.

I'm not excited about the idea. I'm already sick of the snarky Wheadon style humor throughout the Marvel movies, I'd much rather not have it in my Star Wars. I know the older SW movies had some good banter, but Wheadon overdoes it. If he wants to direct it and isn't the screenwriter than I'm fine with that.

Yeah but I really don't want to see Eliza Dushku or Amy Acker in Star Wars. And this is Joss we're talking about. I'm pretty sure he's legally obligated to put both of them in staring rolls in everything he does.
Funny, I didn't see either them in The Avengers. Or even Serenity for that matter. I'll give you Amy Ackers for being in Cabin in the Woods, though.

Dialog too quirky for Star Wars? "Would it help if I got out and pushed?" "It might!" Too quirky for Jedi? "You want to go home, and re-think your life." "The negotiations were brief." No, I don't think that's a problem.

He probably would kill Chewbacca, though.
At least he wouldn't kill Chewie with a moon. There are definitely some aspects of the EU I was glad to see go. I just wish they hadn't thrown out the X-Wing series baby with the Legacy of the Force bathwater.

Like many other people in this thread, I'm not sure he would be a good fit. I do think he has the right idea--make the movies about new characters, and there are, sorry, were plenty to draw from--but I just don't know if his style would fit. At least for a numbered film.

Put him in charge of the X-wing series though, with all those quick jabs and jokes? Or yeah, a Han Solo film? That could totally work. He'd be a perfect match for X-wing I think.

You know I was thinking this myself. I bet he could make a movie following a team of X-WIng pilots or even some Smugglers. And I think it would work.

We don't need a Jedi in everything Star Wars.

It wasn't JJ Abrams' decision to retcon the EU, it was Disney's.
And you think the director they chose to continue the biggest portion of the franchise had no input? The EU survived and even influenced the prequels and the Clone Wars cartoon. It was the new movie that takes place in the heart of the EU that forced this decision, and it would be the story they wrote for it that would determine if it could coexist or over write. It all comes down to the movie and it's Abrams movie. I honestly believe that Whedon would have done a much better job of weaving the movie into the established lore and wouldn't have required the whole sale scrapping JJ's movie has. Especially if he avoided using Luke, Han, and Leia as he indicates he would like to do.

With Star Trek, Abrams has already shown his predilection for screwing up the cannon of a long established Scifi series. While Whedon has shown his respect for lore with his Marvel films, and the Marvel Comics have an exponentially worse tangled continuity than anything in the EU.

So Ya, I'd rather have The director of Serenity over Star Trek.

I would be really interested in a film about a small team of troopers doing their thing. Essentially Star Wars: Republic Commando - The Movie. If he could essentially do a Serenity-like film with that, I would be a happy camper.

I can easily see him doing a spin-off following the adventures of Young Han Solo.

Shooting for shit and getting killed?
Clone Troopers, not Storm Troopers.

I wonder what movie he's going to plagiarizer for the general idea for this one? Will Han Solo suddenly gain a fondness for phasers? Will the Stormtrooper's new battle cry be "Resistance is futile"? Will the Rebel alliance be searching for the 13th colony? Damn, and I thought J.J. Abbrams was a bad choice. At least when he's aping someone else's work he's upfront about it.

No. Please Lord no. I'm already happy he's exiting Marvel. Please keep him away from my other favorite franchise. I don't think I can stand anymore of the snark.

Honestly?

He'd work just fine for one of the offshoot movies. Not a main trilogy film.

But, then, we'd essentially just end up with-

Serenity Wars ...and, ya know what? I'm good with that.

I'd rather he didn't. Firefly and Buffy are amazing, but nothing he's done since has blown me away. And that includes Avengers.

However if I may dive deeply into the pool of desperate nerdy wishes, there is one thing I would be very happy for him to work on: an adaptation of the Wraith Squadron trilogy. I know the old EU is gone. I know very little of it is likely to ever be reintroduced. I know that Wraith Squadron without the Rogues preceding it is unlikelier still, but goddamnit they're some of my favourite Star Wars characters and would be a perfect fit for Whedon's preference for misfit bands of psychologically fragile human banter machines.

The justice I'm sure he'd do to a certain death scene from Iron Fist (probably my all time favourite EU moment) would be unreal.

I'm conflicted honestly. I can't stand him as a person, I really can't. But I don't like avoiding someone's work because of who they are...

... But even then, his works haven't exactly wowed me. I watched three episodes of Firefly and gave the up because it bored the hell out of me. Avengers was average, not terrible, but not great. The only dealings I've had with Buffy was an enthusiastic fan, a small joke in Fallout 2's Den and the PnP RPG to poke around the spellcrafting system for another RPG.

So call me unenthused I suppose.

I'm not terribly sure about him completely handling the main series of the new trilogy, but damn would I lose my mind if they announced him for a string of spin-off titles. Stories that would necessitate the careful handling of personal connections, dramas and intimations. He definitely surprised me with the Avengers, I'd love for him to disprove my brand of hard-set protectiveness for Star Wars with his craft.
