...So I guess things will change after all. Good to know, I was sick of all the toxicity in here. Also a subforum for tv and movies is a welcome addition!

Do you get a sense of toxicity from the thread headlines? Or do you actually go into the threads to read them, and if you're not interested in them, why would you?

I?m not going to speak for CrazyGirl17 (or anyone else,) but in my personal experience: I?ll open up Off Topic wanting to see a topic I can engage in, see the majority of active threads are ?[POLITICS],? roll my eyes, a political thread title might pique my curiosity, then I open the thread and read post after post of increasingly direct and hostile exchanges between people whose minds aren?t changing in the slightest, the open exchange of ideas clearly a back-seated priority. It?s not my seeking/calling out toxicity or purposefully exposing myself to content I know I won?t appreciate; it?s more about going where the active conversations seem to be, ?going with the flow,? hoping to find civil conversation I might be able to contribute to, and rarely finding it.

I won?t call it ?toxic? as the exchanges seem to be between willfully engaging parties, so if that?s what folks want to do, then so be it, but it doesn?t seem productive and it?s certainly isn?t inviting to those of us here for casual and civil discord. When it?s most of what we find in OT on a daily basis, it just wears thin, especially given it was an artificially created issue. Glad they?re fixing it.

Okay, maybe "toxic" was a bit of a strong word. I just find a thread that looks interesting and read it. Problem is it involves a lot of arguing that doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Doesn't help that the front page is almost nothing but politics.

So... if film and TV has a new home, and R&P has a new home (sort of, it isn't really clear what's happening there), what's going to be in off-topic? I think it's just going to be Tippy2K2's thread about sports (which totally deserve their own forum!).

(I used to quite enjoy the whirlpool threads, but I think it they come back we should have a volcano as the threat element.)

Oh thank god- best Escapist news I've heard in months! Also did anyone else find it pretty funny the way in that very same post, poor Nick there is asking for people to keep the politics out of his update announcement thread? It seems not even a normal, site structure update post is safe from political discussion worming its way in there somewhere... the sooner it all goes back to a dedicated R&P forum, the better it will be for absolutely everybody.

Well, that didn't take very long at all. It makes me wonder just how much consideration really went into the choice in the first place. Certainly there wasn't such a rapid change of power in the past 2-3 months that could overturn such a choice?

Either way, it's good to hear. Sad to hear the new forums won't be seen till 2020 at the earliest, but this will be a good start to things. The TV and Movies section could be fun.

Why should I doubt myself? No one provided any evidence I was wrong. They just got mad at me...and that's about it. At most they took an out of context quote and claimed it proof of me being a hypocrite. I then explained the quote in better context, and...no rebuttal on that.

Hey folks,

Just jumping in here. Before I took the job as EIC I've been studying The Escapist, reading the room etc. Even I noticed Off-Topic was overloaded just as a lurker before officially joining up, so it's not a snap decision, more as something that I want resolved for my own sanity as much as yours.

Working on details now and will deliver sometime next week.

There's been a lot change here over the past year, but we're settling in now. As a reference I've only been in charge for a little over a month.

If you've not checked the website there's a lot of cool content going up now and it's only going to get better.

As Editor in Chief, I will be in here listening to your feedback and working with you, not against you on stuff. Doesn't mean you'll always get what you want, but if there's QOL things we can do to make the forums better, I'll be sure to listen and make things happen where it makes sense.

It was working for me all the way up until I posted a video in the one hit wonders thread and then they all broke.

Reminds me of when someone told me titles were broken and I still had mine then I went to check and it broke mine. It works until you try to use it!

If anyone can somehow fix titles. Mine used to say " More Lego Goats Please!" instead of premium member. Mine broke when I tried to help someone else fix theirs LOL!

I just changed mine recently, and it worked. Try changing it via the following link, near the bottom of the page:
https://v1.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/subscription

The title input box will 'eat' whatever you put in it, but it still seems to work, at least for me. And by 'eat' I mean it accepts the inputted text you put in, and the change still goes through onto the forum, but the box itself still shows up blank for some reason.

It would seem that the Escapist's thread display function reverted back to including YouTube videos using "HTTP" rather than "HTTPS" 🤷‍♂️

Also, for the person having a look at this;
You might also want to look at the function that encodes SPOILERS in base64, as spoilers also still have HTTP links in their encoded blob. I assumed that both normal posts and spoilers were parsed by the same functions, but apparently videos in spoilers were still broken even though they worked in normal posts. [small]A little something I seem to have overlooked when I pushed out a fix for it in my plugin...[/small]

Assuming the most direct way was used to encode this, you should be able to find it easily by searching for "base64_encode" on the Escapist's source files 🤷‍♂️

Thank you!! It finally worked after like the 6th try this time. Maybe it worked on an earlier try but took a bit to show up so I kept putting it in over and over and refreshing to see! XD When they broke ages ago, someone asked how to reset their title so I went to that page you just linked and tried to change mine to see if it worked and it has been broken ever since. At least that is working just in time for them to move us and we likely have to reset if we still even have titles by then. HAHA!

Now I can go back to pleading for Lego to make more goats for my medieval village because I refuse to pay $32+ for a used Lego goat on Bricklink because they will not make anymore....AND not those horrible mutant friend's animals that look completely out of character with my other Lego goats and scene because they suck.

Yea I tried it on 3 different browsers and 2 computers and it is definitely not working.
