It doesn't cause arthritis but it CAN lead to a really weakened grip.
So cracking your knuckles would lead to being stressed??

when you crack your knuckles you are essentially lifting the bone out of it's sockets (not dislodging then...that would be painful, like a classmate of min fond out playing soccer :p ) the crack comes from the tiny vacume formed in the space witch "sucks" the bon back causing the sound. this technicaly don't cause arthritis i suppose, but it does increase the wear-and-tear of the joints witch in time might cause it, or at least aggrevate it.

I sure hope not, I crack my knuckles, feet, toes, back, neck...
No it does not. Cracking your knuckles or whatever else is usually just dislodging it from the socket. Arthritis is usually caused by excess use of your joints.
Cracking knuckles is actually a minor gas releasing from between 2 section of bone within the joint, thus making a popping sound when released.

And that is the end of my useless knowledge.

*edit*

After reading all of these posts, I guess we are all "sort of" right.

Yeah that's a good point I don't know why I keep coming back here.
I like it here. It's nice to be able to find rational thought and conversation about most topics. That and the massive use of the banhammer :)

I thought that cracking your knuckles is air bubbles moving in your joint fluid. I didn't think you were dislodging anything. With respect, where did you hear that?

Answer (in short): we don't know for sure why knuckles pop. And there is no evidence that popping causes damage, though there is also no evidence of the opposite either. And "habitual knuckle crackers are more likely to have hand swelling and lower grip strength attributed to stretched tendons".

Question: Why do so many idiots still believe that western lightwater moderated nuclear reators can blow up like the unstable Soviet graphite moderated RBMK reactors that were used in Chernobyl?

I have no idea what the sound is caused by or how dangerous it is. However, after cracking my knuckles for some time, my joints started hurting really bad, and so I stopped. I have no idea if it would have caused any harm if I hadn't stopped, but I'm pretty sure it can't be very good for your joints.

Probably cause they think (or don't depending on how you se it.) "everyone says nuclear power is bad! therfore it must be so!"

besides when a reactor blows up it's not like a nuke, in fact it's more like a fire if tjernobyl is anything to go by (the explosion didn't even destroy the entier powerplant)...admittedly a fire that spews radioactive particles into the air -.-

On the "cracking your joints" topic, I've heard it's no more dangerous than any other sort of friction(i.e. moving your joints) and therefore isn't going to do you any real damage.

Why is this site called "The Escapist"(why not illutionist or magician instead)?
/stupidly put question

Because Yahoo Answers is only slightly more reliable than listening to a drunk hobo stoned out of his mind preach on the horrors of capitalism.

Why bother doing anything?
