Terrorism, sabotage, guerrilla warfare: it all means the same thing. It's just that America has tried to turn the term "terrorist" into muslims who try to force their faith onto others.

The "terrorist" attack on the plane flying over Lockerbie is turning out to be "military sabotage" by that son of a ***** colonel from Libya.

One major difference is that Rico isn't targeting civilians.
He doesn't exactly target them, they just get in the way and accidentally end up tied to a motor bike which drives off a huge cliff and explodes. Their squishy mortal flesh is no match for the might Rico Rodriguez - master of gravity.

Any worries you may have about the game's message or intent will disappear completely once you finish the game and see the last mission. I mean...wow.

Whoa...can you elaborate how exactly that process worked? I think I may want to try that...or something similar, haha.
I can elaborate, but it's a pain in the nuts. There might be some videos on youtube of it.

You have to go to the island airport where they have a nice long runway and stand at the intersection of the runway and the...uh...747 parking lot. When one comes to the runway, immediately yank the driver out and kill him. Drive the plane down the runway a short distance, just far enough to repeat the hijacking of the second plane.

Once you have the second plane hijacked, drive the second 747 behind the first VERY SLOWLY. Park it as far behind the first as you can without the distance being too far for your hook, but close enough that you can pull the second plane relatively straight. Also, try to center the grappling line as best you can on both planes so you won't be pulling the second at an angle or sideways. It's not as easy as it sounds, but it gets much easier after you do it a few times and get your method and schedule of events down to a science.

Pulling the second plane down the runway for takeoff can be really frustrating. Get in the first plane and start to accelerate SLOWLY. If you accelerate too fast, the line will break and you'll have to set it all up again with the parking and lining up and such. By the time that happens, there's probably a new plane barreling down the runway and it's very like to just ram into everything you've worked so hard for.

If you accelerate SLOWLY down the runway, you'll be able to pull the second plane. Once both planes are at a constant acceleration, you should be able to ease into full throttle. The runway should be just long enough to get you in the air, followed by the second plane shortly after.

Once you're in the air, you've got a little time to gain altitude. After that, it's a vomit inducing trip as the 747s dance around each other, spiraling toward the ocean. I've seen some videos where people have managed to keep control, but that's fucking boring.

I know it sounds like a pain in the ass, but you'll get it. I also know that it sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth. I guarantee you, it's not. The payoff is well worth all of the setup.

This guy does it slightly differently...

I thought this was going to be a thread warning that terrorists might use Just Cause as a simulator to develop tactics and plan attacks. I lol'd.

But also notice that he's targeting military and political targets. And really, the only political targets are the propaganda booths and the statues. Civilian collateral damage is an issue, as with the stealing of cars, but I think games like GTA have desensitized us to the plight of the generic NPC.
Like all those water towers and gas stations I blew up!
Those millitary dogs, giving people water and fuel!

Why can't there be a game about terrorisim? There are plenty of games where you are an straight out murderer, why is terrorisim any worse? Oh I get it you must be american, don't worry it's just a goofy game. Now let's go and give that ol' stars and stripes a salute ok?
Actually I'm English. I'm not saying it's necessarily wrong, just that it makes me feel uncomfortable in a way that, say, Manshoot: Modern Manshoots 6 doesn't... for about 5 seconds. Then I tie a man to a helicopter and everything is good with the world.

Snip
If you have the PC version you can mod it using the BOLO patch so your line is invincible. Then you can do this much more easily as you don't have to worry about the line breaking. Another mod I have found useful is one to get rid of the Black Market cutscenes.

The only people who would be influenced by this is a small minority of kids. Y'know, the one or two every few months you read about. And even then, it's not very likely they'd be able to get ahold of bombs and the likes, or go around blowing up radio stations or kidnapping politicians. People take this stuff too seriously. It's a game. Play it and have fun. It's not like you're actually terrorising real people.

Any prospective terrorist who tried doing anything Rico does would wind up killing himself faster than he could ever hope to kill anyone else.
My god he's got it - quick send copies to the east fast!

On topic, it's more of a saboteur than a terrorist since you are a mercenary paid to end a dictatorship. But I can see what you're saying about water towers etc - but then again dissent in the people is snowballed on to the leader, inspiring opposition

Let me first say that I'm having a great time with Just Cause 2: Its fantastic mindless silly fun. But I've had this growing uncomfortable feeling that you are essentially just playing a terrorist. I haven?t finished the game but from what I?ve done so far I feel this is a well-informed point to bring up.
The basic plot, as far as I can gather, is you are an agent from some non-descript American agency sent in to destabilise some third world dictatorship. You accomplish this by doing missions for the three rebel groups on the island and just generally blowing things up. This is fine when the missions are something like 'go to this military base and destroy the radio communications mast and steal some weapons? but increasingly the missions have been becoming even more morally bankrupt. For example, one of the last ones was to kill some witnesses to a gang shooting. Another was to kidnap a politician who didn?t agree with whichever rebel group I was working for ? they didn?t even do a Hitman and go ?also he?s a paedophile?. It doesn?t help that the three groups are an insane communist party, a drug baron?s gang and a load of tribal nuts who keep making veiled references to ethnic cleansing.
Even when you?re not actively doing a mission, you can destroy anything that is ?government property? - marked with a white star. While this includes statues of the dictator and propaganda trailers, it also includes essential infrastructure such as water towers, electrical transformers, wind turbines and oil rigs. And let?s just say it?s probably just as well there?s no civilian body count ? collateral damage is unavoidable.
So what do you think? Let me reiterate that I?m still having a blast with this game ? unlimited parachutes and a grapple? Brilliant. But do you Escapists feel slightly uncomfortable with the war crimes you perpetrate in the game?
I lol'd.

Dude, Just Cause has always been a 90's action film in game form.
Just Cause 2 just ramps it up.
