We've all been there - you're just minding your own business, trying to concentrate on something, when that mother-of-all annoying person gets in you face. No matter if he/she's yapping on the phone or complaining, that always gets on your nerves. What do you do? I for one close my eyes and count to 20 in my head. But that doesn't always work. So I ask you my dear Escapees:

What do you do to calm yourself down in these situations (short of punching him/her)?

Depends entirely on context.
I meant the general trivial complaints that don't mean anything to you, like "oh man, why is it snowing outside, I wanna go show off my new skirt in that club!"

Well I'm not sure I calm the situation..... my humor, temper, or wit certainly don't help the situation.... but I get my way so i'm good.

I would say "Get out of my face" if they were actually doing that... but I like to think of all possible scenarios that play out. That usually takes long enough to distract me that it calms me down.

Most people know not to bother me like that. A subtle glare is usually enough to make them go away.

To calm down, I meditate (yes, I've figured a way to meditate standing up while working. Don't ask)

Unhealthy, I know, but then again I don't plan on living a billion years.

If you don't think it will result in fisticuffs then I say, fuck it, call them out. I'd probably try to be polite but firm, at least at first. So what was your situation? Was it like this?

(Guy shouting into phone, although not apparently angry)"No, the doc checked me out. Huh? No, I sa-no, I said IT'S NOT HERPES!"

If so, I personally wouldn't be able to resist saying something to him.

FLOWCHART TIME!!

Unsheathe knife
1 Does the person shut up and go away?
Yes: Proceed with whatever the hell you were doing
No: Unfold knife blade and proceed to 2
2 Does the person continue to be bothersome?
Yes: Make gestures implying his inminent stabbing and proceed to 3
No: Return to 1
3 Is the person genuinely scared of you holding a knife and the intention to end his/her life?
Yes: Go back to 2
No: Proceed with the repeated insertion of the knife into the numbskull's... skull and proceed to 4
4 Is the person dead?
Yes: Eat the corpse and eliminate all trace of proof in the form of bloodstains, clothing and possessions and forge an airtight alibi.
No: Return to 3

If all else fails, nuke that sucka!

I just go with the good ol' 'Fuck off' then refuse to give them any more interaction. Trust me it drives people crazy.

The rest of my family (especially mum and dad) are like that 90% of the time (like, as I type this). Hence, I just lock myself in my room and try to ignore them. They're annoying people, I try to avoid them. Sadly I can't all the time, and it pisses me off.

Try and reason with them, if that fails. Then I will take, my sword go outside to my back garden where no one can see me. And practice my swinging, (It clams me down.) The best thing about that is, the person yelling at me, won't go near and even if their shouting from a distance I just ignore them.
