So yeah, just finished the campaign of Black Ops and it is really good.
Is it as varied as Modern warfare 2?
There is a fair bit of variation in the levels with a few vehicle sections and other styles to break the monotony just where it's needed. There are some other interesting levels (level 2 for example) which makes it feel like a bit different.

Also something I failed to mention in my first post GORE!! - some of the things in this game will surprise you when you see them happen

Iv played the first level, can you tell me one thing?
Does the story keep jumping around like crazy between past and present?
Or is that just occasional?
Yes it does it a lot since they are memory flashes trigger by the interrogator trying to get the info he needs. You'll find it why this happens later on

So it isn't brimming with ridiculous plot holes like MW2? That's good to hear. I always thought it was such a waste that they put such a generic, incomprehensible storyline in one of the world's most popular games, but if this one is actually good, then it's a purchase for me.

I've always loved Call of Duty's campaigns. Especially the stealth missions' All Ghillied Up, Cliffhanger, etc. Hopefully there's more like that.
Well don't expect realism but a lot of the plot is tied together pretty nicely with a lot of confusing questions being answered

For a FPS game based heavily around multiplayer that's pretty long but not too long that you get bored
If Call of Duty wants that reasoning to justify a 60 dollar price tag then it should become an MMO. A game should stand on its own single player wise. Hell, the only reason there are multiple Call of Duty's is because of the single player. There's no reason to release another one since you could just patch one version up and release expansions but if you do that then where's the extra cash?

Hell, once you actually get down to it the game is just an over glorified mappack with different skins. Are you saying this is enough to justify a 60 dollar price tag?

I mean like in one level does it flash back more than once? I found it a little hard to follow when it kept jummping around like that.
I wont mind if its between levels but if Im in the middle of a firefight then it flashes forward to 5 hours later, it might get a little anoying.

Yes there are multiple times in some levels - mainly the longer ones as the interrogator gets more impatient. It always changes after a scene/fight though

Okay all I said was for it's genre it's long I said nothing about justifying buying it and it's obvious from that post you scorn at call of duty so why post in a thread about it? Also I got it from trading in medal of honor and £10 thanks to my reward scheme so the extra cost means nothing to me.

The idea of getting Black Ops purely for the single player is laughable.
I didn't but singleplayer is always the first thing I play in a new game and I was surprised how well done it was so made this thread.

Thats not so bad I suppose. I'll be picking my own copy of the game up soon then.
Thanks.

And if anyone is interested in zombies I've just seen the new zombie mode characters - Kennedy, Nixon, Castro and MacNillan
Don't you mean McNamara..?

Sorry, I'm a History student, so these things kinda stand out for me.

That's funny, that's exactly my thought on multiplayer.

Well I'm glad there's at least one thread about this game that isn't about how horrible it is that snipers actually have to be snipers now. I only have one question though. I heard rumors that zombies appear in the campaign, is this true?

Thank you! I thought I'd gotten that name wrong but couldn't remember what it was meant to be

No that isn't true, there is something that looks similar to zombies but it is spoilerific so won't post it. Only zombies appear after you finish the campaign and it forces you into presidential zombie mode (white house map)

Let's hope not. A cool concept doesn't make for a good game. We all remember how Shellshock 2 turned out to be...

That was more bad execution than bad idea. Anyway it doesn't matter as I've been informed that they don't.
