AND ITS AMAZING!!!! I went for about 2 weeks (give or take a day or two i cant really remember some...) and its mind blowing how advanced it is compared to the US. Every where i looked something new was being built or a commercial was playing for some amazing new gizmo. Not to metion how disgustingly clean everything was. The roads, the buildings, hell even the trains were emaculate. Sadly i had to come back to the US and i flew into the complete opposite of Japan... L.A. I had nightmares about how dirty that place is... Anyhow it dose feel good to sleep in my own bed. Has anyone in The Escapist traveled out of their native country and found the place you were going to be ten times better than were you left from? Also forgive me for typos its been a long night for me and im kinda out of it :)

Yeah i have seen a good deal of Europe, and it was barley any different. I always find it funny listening to people complain about what not here in Australia because i know the people in Germany say the same things.

That and i am mildly jealous, Japan would be such an interesting place to visit.

Damn you I am so jealous...I want to see Japan really bad. Sigh, o well...
Anyways, I have really only been to the United States and I didn't like it as much as I like Canada. I don't really know why I didn't, I was pretty young when I went.

Well, I went to Berlin once.

Yeah, I probably would've enjoyed it more if I wasn't so obviously an ignorant tourist...

(<-- doesn't speak more than two words of German)

Going to Japan was really kinda impulsive on my part. I had money, i wanted to go to Japan, i looked up how much it would be, thought about it for a few seconds and bought the ticket. Best decision iv ever made. I highly recommend that if anyone would like to travel and is having a hard time choosing a destination Japan is where its at. Also try and learn at least a little bit of the language, it helps out a lot.

I'm from Australia so it wasn't as bad of a jump but yes Japan is immaculate, so friendly in comparison with the western world and the technology level is far above the rest. Oh and ofcourse, I found Hiroshima amazing (I love history).

Dubai is amazing. Like everywhere you look is either a huge hotel or a massive shopping centre, Everything is open till like 3:00 in the morning and everything is unbelievably tidy. All food and stuff is just so much nicer. I.E I went to a restaurant and asked for some apple juice they asked me " Red of green?" So I said green and my brother said red and you saw them blendindg them fresh and then mine tasted sweeter like a green apple and his was less sweet. And generally everything is like that. Not to mention the tallest building in the world.

And then I returned to Croydon :(

I only stayed stayed in Tokyo and is surrounding areas for the most part but i would have loved to explore the country itself. There was just to much to do in Tokyo alone for a 2 week trip of impulse, plus i wouldnt know where to begin to start going once i left the city XP

Well probably the most "different" and exciting trip I have had abroad is to China on a two week study program at a foreign language school (I live in the UK, for reference). Whilst it was good fun and the differences in culture provided much entertainment, I wouldn't want to live there permanently due to obvious issues regarding human rights abuses.

well my expereince was national not international

I live in Birmingham and i went to Sheffield to look at the university and i fell in love with the place, the train ride showed the difference, going from something purely industrial into the countryside to end up in a perfectly formed city was just mind blowing

Also anytime i end up in the South West i never really want to go back to Birmingham

AW MAN! I was going to go to Japan for the summer, but the airline deal was discontinued... I guess I'll have to settle for Comic-Con San Diego...

Tips when touring Japan, namely Tokyo...

- Do not wear sneakers, wear proper shoes, as you're bound to do a lot of walking
- Food is expensive, but very delicious
- Trains vs Cabs, cost vs ease
- Either get a tourguide or plan ahead, to avoid hassle and costs.
- Bring lots of cash, Goods are not necessarily cheap, but they are competitively priced.
Especially if you're into electronics or Otaku Goods.

It's a matter of $$ really, but if you can get a Visa to Japan in the first place, that means you're already good to go...

I live in England, and I've been to;
Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Eqypt.
All the European countries were cleaner than England and had nicer people it seemed.
Egypt, I never really saw much of, it was a scuba diving package holiday, so I was either asleep, on a boat or underwater the entire time. It was lolhot though, waking up at 6:00, going outside and it being bright sunshine and 30 degrees celsius already was mental.

Likewise, I went to Japan for two weeks in 2007 as a student ambassador. It was probably the most awesome thing I have ever done. While coming home did feel kind of nice, I really want to go back sometime in the future. (No kidding on the long night, my flight was from Japan to Virginia and I can't sleep on planes, I was awake for over 32 hours...)

I went there on an all-expenses paid trip (funded by the Japanese government as an international relations building program) for two weeks back in December '08. It was the most amazing experience of my life. I love the culture, the food, everything. I'm not even into Anime or Manga or anything, but I just love the country. I intend to go back there as an exchange student after my HSC is done at the end of next year.

When I went in 2008 we had an English speaking tour guide, I was with other English speaking people (not all Australians though, we had people from all over Oceania), and I only homestayed for 4 or so days. I didn't pick up much Japanese, but I'd been studying it at school for two years so I could still read the katakana whenever it showed up, and some kanji here and there (entrance, exit, big/small on the toilet for flushes). It's such an amazing place, I can't wait to go back there! Glad you had as much of an awesome time as I did.
