Just got done arguing with microsoft customer support

So my console would be under warranty if it red ringed (which is a hardware issue) but it isn't since the disc drive is busted (also hardware issue). Microsoft even addressed this issue by replacing drives with better ones, yet they want me to pay 125$ to fix something that was their fault in the first place. They sell me a 550$ console with shoddy parts and expect me to pay to have it fixed? The supervisor I spoke to even agreed that its stupid to cover one hardware failure but not another even though they both stem from the same issue (Microsoft using shitty parts) but she couldn't do anything about it because of company policy. So now i could go buy an arcade for 75$ more than the repair cost and get the dubious bonus of a 500 mb memory card and be stuck with the same shitty 20 gig HD or I can spring for the elite and push the total I've spent on this thing to almost 3000$. You'd think after spending that much money on something it would work after 2 years. On top of all this crap I've recently bought a zune that after 2 weeks inexplicably corrupted 90 gigs of music and video for reasons Microsoft doesn't explain, their fix was reformat and hope it doesn't happen again. The worst part about all this is that their competition isn't worth switching to.

Cool, they wont give me a new 360 to replace my red ring of deathed one. Big companies don't like you, the customer, and it sucks but there's nothing we can do about it.

Wait, you think there isn't anything worth switching to... over the Zune?!

What kind of bad craziness do you have? Apple, Creative, and SanDisk all make great mp3 players that I've used and liked over the years.

Ipods are garbage, the only other option at futureshop is archos and those things cost as much as a small laptop and have crap like paying to unlock functions the device had out of the box.

Sounds like you're having a run of bad luck. I hope it works out for the best. I'd recommend getting the name of a supervisor at Customer Support and writing them a formal letter of complaint. I have no idea if it will make a difference, but that's your best bet of getting a positive result. Good luck.

P.S. I love my Ipod touch. My life would almost literally fall apart without it. But, that's me...

What exactly makes iPods garbage, or is this just unthinking Apple-hate? Shop around online, there are a lot of better deals on music/video players than just the iPod and Zune.

yeah the touch has some cool features but until flash drives get to a reasonable size I won't be buying one.

So, it's not under warranty. Ergo Microsoft doesn't owe you jack shit. You can either pay them to repair it or not, why argue about it?

Because they sold me a faulty product which they know to be faulty and I'm expected to pay for them ripping me off?
