I'd say Microsoft's quality has been slipping the last few years.

Sounds like you're having a run of bad luck. I hope it works out for the best. I'd recommend getting the name of a supervisor at Customer Support and writing them a formal letter of complaint. I have no idea if it will make a difference, but that's your best bet of getting a positive result. Good luck.

P.S. I love my Ipod touch. My life would almost literally fall apart without it. But, that's me...
yeah the touch has some cool features but until flash drives get to a reasonable size I won't be buying one.
4 gigs isn't big enough for you? It is so sad you can't listen to more than 20 hours of music before having to plug it into your computer to change the selection.

Do you somehow need more than 64GB? I've seen them that size in Office Max, so I'm sure there are bigger.

Wait, you think there isn't anything worth switching to... over the Zune?!

What kind of bad craziness do you have? Apple, Creative, and SanDisk all make great mp3 players that I've used and liked over the years.
Ipods are garbage, the only other option at futureshop is archos and those things cost as much as a small laptop and have crap like paying to unlock functions the device had out of the box.
iPods are crap is the voice of someone who has never had one. They are actually rather brilliant. I love my iTouch.

Hmm. Mine red ringed. I applied for a repair on the website. It got repaired in less than a week for free and I got 1 month free Gold membership.

That picture actually made me lol, and reminded me of the time my User Account Control asked me if I wanted to run the program "Blue Screen"

The Zune bit is the same with iPods too. Both use just terrible hardware/software but I've found Zunes have more endurance than iPods.

hold on, so the only issue is that the disc drive is broken??
Just buy a red ringed xbox off ebay for next to nothing, (making sure its a 3 red ring box, which seems to be 99% of the time a ram cold solder joint or cpu overheating problem)and just switch the drives. would probably need to match the drives though, as i think there are 3 different brands of drives in the xbox 360, and i doubt it would like swapping one brand for another, could be wrong though.

My zune was 140, so no 4 gigs is not big enough.

Because they sold me a faulty product which they know to be faulty and I'm expected to pay for them ripping me off?
You should have read the warranty. Don't start getting all high and mighty about it - its all part of business; it may be wrong but if its not covered by the warranty you agreed to when buying the console there's nothing they have to do for you...why should they, realistically?

Call again and tell them how disappointed you are with the system and to give you a reason why you shouldn't buy a PS3 instead of paying for a repair or a new system again ... worked for my out of warranty 360... they sent me a box for no cost shipping, fixed within a week.

If you have €20 on you, apply your case to the small claims court. The customer support team will be tripping over themselves to give you free parts once they get a call from your local court house.

Because they risk losing my business and damaging their reputation by f*ing me over.

As Fry's or any other store would say after two years of use "that is a wear and tear issue", I can see your point of view, but I can see theirs as well.

This is not MS's fault. An employ is told that they do not fix un warrenteed consuls for free. Sorry mate, you knew how the consoul has problems. I don't see why you didn't buy a warrenty from the place you bought it. Then you could exchange it like that

Wait, are we talking about the same company here? This is Microsoft; one of the biggest companies in the world - I doubt they will care about losing one customer - bearing in mind this happens to a decent amount of people. As much as I would like to say otherwise; you've got no right to be given a new 360, they aren't going to change their warranty - and therefore your legal rights, because you complained a little...

That's brilliant. I'm writing that down, seeing as my 360 seems to be circling the drain.

It's all about attitude when you talk to them. If you freak out they'll prob. tell you that you're out of luck ( which is what they can "legally" do ), if you are calm and reasonable they'll probably give you a new system ( which is what the PR department would rather anyway I'm sure )

So my console would be under warranty if it red ringed (which is a hardware issue) but it isn't since the disc drive is busted (also hardware issue).
So, it's not under warranty. Ergo Microsoft doesn't owe you jack shit. You can either pay them to repair it or not, why argue about it?
Because they sold me a faulty product which they know to be faulty and I'm expected to pay for them ripping me off?
So? Arguing will accomplish absolutely nothing. You know why?

Because your malfunctioning product is not under warranty. You are entitled to absolutely nothing.

Maybe start an Internet petition to have the 360's general warranty extended to 3 years, I'd sign it.
