My fellow escapists, there's something I want to share with you all. I work at a grocery store and we are playing repetitive Christmas music for hours on end. I actually counted and the store played during my 8 hour shift:

We Wish You a merry Christmas- 27 times

Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer- 24 times

Frosty the Snowman-21 times

Santa Claus is Coming to Town- 19 times

Sleigh ride- 18 times

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas- Lost count after 16

I think you get the idea. Needless to say, I'm sick of Christmas music. Does anyone have similar experiences? Also, if you know any Christmas music that won't drive someone like me into a homicidal frenzy, please share it. Thanks

Edit: This isn't the first year they have done this. It is a constant from the eight years I have worked there. it's practically a tradition. And I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Your not doing a very good job if you have time to count the number of songs. Keep busy, that should keep your mind off it.

I'm with you. I hate christmas music time... to help, go find a copy of "A Very Scary Solstice" by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Preservation Society. (I'm pretty sure it is all up on youtube). Then you can think of those whilst the terrible music repeats itself.

You never worked retail during Christmas. I worked at a radio shack for about a year. That Christmas season was the worst in all my years. It wasn't the people. It wasn't the long weekends. It was the damn video. The hour long video the company made us play over and over and over again every day. The same damn Christmas songs and advertisements...

I never wanted to destroy anything more in my life without actually doing so.

Most stores do that at the moment, it isn't really anything special. It is also one of the reasons I rarely go to a store, if I do, I usually have my own music plugged in my ear.

Enjoy it?
I was subjected to so much repeating Christmas music for about a month each year during my childhood that I just enjoy it without thinking about it.

At my work, for the last week we have had bon jovi's greatest hits played on repeat. Which is completely awesome, but i have a feeling the christmas music is coming, and when it does the number of suicides in store will go up.
Also, the soundtrack of the Nightmare Before Christmas is the only christmas music that doesn't make me rage and vomit and all the rest

That sounds like pure torture.

The only thing I can compare it too is the alarm on my mobile phone. When you pick it it's like 'huh, sounds good to wake up to', and when you've been roughly awoken by the damn thing a hundred times just hearing the sound - even in the middle of the day - can make you feel uneasy. Terrible.

Haha oh yeah, I still get a worried feeling even when I hear my old alarm, that I haven't used in like a year. When I hear my new one I always try and silence it as quickly as possible, as though people around me will get really pissed off if I don't :S

As for OT: I don't spend enough time in hops to get pissed off at the music thankfully :p

I work in customer service and during weekday's its quiet. I have nothing else to do and can't leave my position. Oh, and the speaker is right above the desk I stand at so ignoring it is impossible

Nevertheless, if you have nothing to do, bring a book or a DS/PSP or something.

There.Is.No.God.
You poor bastard, my sincerest condolences...

When I took art in high school, the teacher would always turn the radio to the 24/7 365 days a year christmas station. I still wonder how I survived that class...

Meh, doesn't really matter to me. I think I like christmas music best when it's sung by the old classic singers. Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, stuff like that.

And lately I've been thinking about those great christmas/winter music themes from video games. This one's my favorite. Hah, tis' the season...

I asked, and we're not allowed to read or do anything else, except stand there or clean the counter top. It is mind numbingly boring at times.
