My sister is in the same boat, she is losing it. I cannot take Christmas music either. Maybe hearing a song once on Christmas eve / day I can live with, but more that that I turn off or tune out.
If you can get away with it I know of passive sound dampeners with a mic and speakers that you can control, allowing you to block out the Christmas music, and still listen to others when needed.
If you wanted to get technical you could carry a netbook with an audio dampening track sync'd with the music track to actively cancel the music. Though due to distortion it would be difficult to pull off.

I would be fine with christmas music if they waited until about now to start playing it. I heard "Dreaming of a White Christmas" on the radio on october 28th. I almost put my truck in the ditch. Christmas needs to be put on a leash and only be allowed to eat december, leave the rest of the months to other holidays.

I have my first shift at my grocery store in 3 weeks this weekend. The music is the one thing I am most worried about.

Edit: that's first shift this weekend after 3 weeks without one, not first shift ever in three weeks as of this weekend.

Here's my three favorite christmas songs, first the sensible one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5bo4VDEH-U
Second the crazy one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd8wewH5COU
And lastly the one that's full of sexual innuendo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rFDQ0ZjLnk
(for those of you that don't care the artists are Mariah Carey, Weird Al Yankovic & Lady GaGa and if a christmas song written by Weird Al doesn't make you want to listen to it it then I don't know what will)

OT If I had to listen to 8 hours of christmas music then i'm not sure if I would still be alive, infact I think you deserve a medal.

Your not doing a very good job if you have time to count the number of songs. Keep busy, that should keep your mind off it.
I work in customer service and during weekday's its quiet. I have nothing else to do and can't leave my position. Oh, and the speaker is right above the desk I stand at so ignoring it is impossible
Nevertheless, if you have nothing to do, bring a book or a DS/PSP or something.

If he's first contact Customer Service, probably means he's on display and can't be seen with obvious entertainment devices.

I work in a nightclub so I get to hear various RnB songs played 5 times a night three nights in a row
the fact at a night club replays the same songs that often, leads me to think about those rnb stations that play the same songs over and over. Like how can people think Man I love this song I'm a go "dance" to it. Then a half hour later still be like "Man i love this song that I already danced to, let me go dance to it again.

OT~~~
I hate christmas songs. There are a few that I tolerate. Some I utterly despise. Rudolph is the top of the list. Shall we look why?

the lyrics: http://www.the-north-pole.com/carols/rudolph.html

The song begins;

"You know Dasher and Dancer
And Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid
And Donner and Blitzen."

The singer is stating that we as an audience know these 8 scrub reindeer. But then, in an act of nothing short of idiocy asks

"But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?"

The idea of knowing the scrubs, and not the "most famous". With the definition of famous being well known. This is akin to knowing the whole roster of a football team, yet not knowing the quarterback. Or all the members of a band but not the lead signer/front man.

Every year new artists release a christmas album. They don't typically add new songs just rehash the "classics". What an easy cash in for them. New album gets released for no real effort.

Humbug I say, BAH HUMBUG!

Back when I worked at Maccy Ds I had the same problem. They never played the oldies so much, I think it was a CD burned by one of the managers and stuck on repeat. Every 4th or 5th song was Mariah Carey...I now hate that song with such a passion it's unreal.

They play the Pogues or the Darkness 2 or 3 times over the course of a shift, yet they play All I want for Christmas is you over 20 times over a shift, I hate it I hate it I hate it!

My fellow escapists, there's something I want to share with you all. I work at a grocery store and we are playing repetitive Christmas music for hours on end. I actually counted and the store played during my 8 hour shift:

We Wish You a merry Christmas- 27 times

Rudolf the Red nosed Reindeer- 24 times

Frosty the Snowman-21 times

Santa Claus is Coming to Town- 19 times

Sleigh ride- 18 times

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas- Lost count after 16

I think you get the idea. Needless to say, I'm sick of Christmas music. Does anyone have similar experiences? Also, if you know any Christmas music that won't drive someone like me into a homicidal frenzy, please share it. Thanks

Edit: This isn't the first year they have done this. It is a constant from the eight years I have worked there. it's practically a tradition. And I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I know how you feel as I work in a grocery store as well. just be glad your store doesn't start it at the beginning of November.

also I find all the covers of songs they play to be even worse than the fact that we are hearing the same songs over and over again.

Try beating this.
I've been working at a grocery store for 5 summers this one included and now working for 2 more weeks...
For these 5 summers and one winter there's always been the same cd and the same songs for more than 5 freaking years!! That's repeat!!

But yeah, I think Christmas starts too early too. About now would be a good time to start bringing out some stuff and then everyone could go crazy the week before and then it would slowly die away a few days after.

I had an awesome manager when I worked at a sport store, he made a deal with the store that we didn't have to listen to christmas music until 1 week before christmas in that week leading up to christmas we had to listen to the tunes and were not allowed to complain. It worked out really well.

I have shoulder-length hair.... occasionally advantageous if you want to listen to mp3's.
Once or twice, I did take it down to the shopfloor, because people wouldn't notice it, and I didn't have it on loud enough for it to disrupt me from hearing people....

Seem to remember telling one of my friends I had it, and they were surprised they didn't notice it :p

Could be a possible suggestion in there somewhere.

Personally I hate christmas music, don't go shopping a massive amount (most things I can get in one trip anyways) and I don't go near sources of christmas music much anyway.

The radio plays the same few songs at work, so fucking annoying.
They play Firework, Teenage Dream and California Girls by Katy Perry about 5 times a day.
Alejandro by Gaga about 6 times a day.
That annoying as fuck 'Just the way you are' song is played about 4 times.
The newest Rhianna song about 2/3 times.
So annoying!

We just need more christmas music. We should get Rebecca Mayes to write us a new one or something.

I've been thinking about doing one myself...

Im fairly sure (not entirely) that AC/DC did a christmas themed song at one point, I'm thinking jungle hells bells but thats more akin to a song from the sound of music
