This is why I like games like Battlefield Bad Co. 2, and MAG. You get a little bit more on the side than just with kills.
Here's the deal, find a way to have kills not be your focus. Objectives are more the meat and the kills are the corn.

i try to think this way but when i play objective based games, most of the people are just in it for kills, so its quite hard to

I have a amazing natural skill at FPS and come 1St almost al the time when I try just a little. So my k/d is always high I personally don't think about it. Just go into a zone of fast thinking and reflex.

I hate stats...because I am a neurotic wanna be perfectionist. Sometimes its interesting, but most of the time my own craziness ruins things for me.
In Oblivion, I am super careful because I cant stand getting "assault" stats for sneak attacks on bandits.
And when my total K/D or W/L stats start tanking, it really bothers me. Im usually good enough to stay positive, but sometimes I have crap streaks or something, or enter many end games where I join the losing team and still get marked for it and it bothers me. Its unlikely and unreasonable to expect stat removal, esp with FPS games...but it would make my own head hurt less.

Your first problem here is you were taking Black Ops seriously and worrying what your score was.

Your second problem was not using the ballistic knife religously like a champ.

your third problem was taking Black Ops seriously.

I like having stats about my gameplay, the more the better.

And it's pretty basic psychology that attaching actual quantifiers to performance is an incentive to persist, it keeps people coming back.

As for me, I was very much a K/D whore when I played call of duty, but now that I mostly play Battlefield, I've found myself caring less and less about it strangely, I still like it when a game ends and I see that I got a really good K/D, but I'm perfectly happy to be the guy who arms all the objectives and ends up with a K/D considerably below one, as long as I'm on a team that actually plays the objective. If I judge my team to be being selfish K/D whores who aren't playing the objective I'll either quite or just join in myself and quite after I've killed a few people.

thats one of the reason i ENJOY halo more, because the lack of overwhelming competitiveness allows me to enjoy it. Games should be FUN, not a strive for everyone to be 'the best.'

And if your counterargument is "just ignore it," you obviously don't know my friends... lol

Forget about your K/D ratio at the end of the day it is just a number play for your entertainment not a statistic.

When I stopped caring about my K/D and others I started trying other weapons and tried to make the most annoying class I could and tried objective game types and it was honestly the most fun I had on Black Op's since buying it however I have since moved onto other games.

I will never have more fun than I did with a Stakeout and RPG's, ah that was a fun day.

(PS - Silenced AK 47 (Not the 74u) has a small spread when you fire try using it, it boosted my accuracy and K/D quite a bit if you are that worried)

In the only game I play that has K/D R, it only means that you can get into some servers or into some clans. I do mind however because a low K/D shows that you're either not good at the game or hustling (how you could do that, I'm not exactly sure) however a high K/D earns the respect of some people and prevents you from being labelled as a noob or hacker.

I don't care about overall KDR, because it goes out the window as soon as you step into an objective-based game mode.

Stats are great when your trying to get something, either a game designed goal or a self defined goal. However if it ever gets in the way of enjoying the game then it's best ignored. Also it depends on what you play the game for; if your on a team with friends the K/D ratio matters for the team, if you play to enjoy developing your skill at it then turn your attention to strategy and experiment ways to flush out campers without dieing(it's less frustrating when you mark off a strategy as ineffective than calling it a failure), lastly, if you play just to blow people up then screw the k/d rush in and take out whatever you can. While you'd probably die a lot with the rambo strategy, it doesn't matter because you'd be in it for just the kills. In the end most statistics will mean something different to you if you go in with a different mind set.

(I should also say my experience in fps' is limited. Changing your immediate goal can do a lot to ward off frustration, this applies to many types of games)

I HAS 4/1 K/D I ARE BEST AT COD.

Ahem.

Anyway, I tend to not do too badly when it comes to K/D.

I mean, I'm not the worlds best shooter, and I tend to prefer sniping opposed to other stuff.

I prefer tactical shooters over everything else, where Killing isn't anywhere near as important as capturing points or defending and stuff, and accurate and recoil actually matter. As opposed to LOL-ROOM-CLEARING-WITH-AN-LMG.

People who make note of having a high K/D tend to be associated with the more reactionary shooters, and boasting about it is kinda... Well, it's a bit typical, if you know what I mean.

K/D is all that matters to me, making that number a bigger number is what keeps me playing CoD. Camping is for noobs, it doesn't give you a good K/D.

It's 3.52 in Blops btw.

Apparently, Ice-T does NOT feel your pain:
"I have a clan on Call of Duty, and when you start telling me your kill/death ratio ? I don?t give a fuck [?] You really going to pick up a ***** by telling her your kill/death ratio? That doesn?t really matter."

My advice? If it's really bothering you so much, put the game away for a week or two. When you come back, try to remind yourself WHY you started playing the game in the first place. If the K/D thing is still such a big problem, why not switch to another game?

I am bound by the judgment of my friend's to have a good KDR in every shooting game I play.

IT IS MY CURSE.
I just don't play FPSs, and besides I am well-known to be eccentric and quirky, so even in RPGs I don't need to do power builds. It is almost expected of me to not do things that would win friend-approval (like a strength shapeshifter in DA:O, or my stealth archer in DA2, or even weirder, my dex-mage in Origins (that was interesting, to say the least)).

Well if I'm playing Reach then I tend to get a 1.8 at least or a 2.2 on really good days. But I don't play super competitively so I really don't care. I just try to be better than the average player. But if I'm playing a game like Gears of War 1 or 2 I get a really poor ratio like 1.4 at least to a 1.6 which is decent in that game I guess.

So ive been playing a lot of black ops lately, and ive been getting really annoyed because im starting to get really bad K/Ds on the games i play, and from watching the kilcams, most of the deaths, are from campers. If i had to guess, id say that they were camping so that they could keep up a positive K/D, which has the unfortunate effect of lowering mine.

So it lead me to think, how much more fun would a game be if it just stopped worrying about Kill/Death ratios and all that crap? It may stop campers which are freaking annoying, but it will also stop people from getting so annoyed (like i was getting). I realized that i actually have started to care about my K/D alot, and its taking away a lot of my enjoyment when i see the end game leaderboards and me having 8 kills to 15 deaths. instead of this i want to be able to just play the game and not give a shit about the numbers at the end.

So all in all i think that games would be somewhat more enjoyable without this whole K/D business

play battlefield. Even in deathmatch (Which is seperated into four squads of four, instead of two massive teams duking it out), the emphasis is on tight team play and POINTS. sure kills matter, but nothing's better than getting 4000 points from revives and heals.

Most of the rest of the game revolves around securing objectives, be it in the "domination" type of game (called Conquest in Battlefield), or objectives you need to blow up. And the best part is, people actually try.

Like I said, it's all about the points. Having said that, do people still strive for a positive KDR? Absolutely.... but I've had a game where I had a .57 KDR, yet singlehandedly led my team to victory because I had roughly 6000 points in revives... keeping people alive and turning the tide of the battle. That, my friend, feels almost as epic as 59 kills and 6 deaths (Which also has happened to me)... almost.

on a side note, I'm HONESTLY surprised at how few people seem to try battlefield. almost all of their complaints are solved in battlefield. ESPECIALLY campers. Someone in a choke point or held up in a house? just destroy it. Problem solved. :)
Is that bad company or the main series?

Yes, it would be better. Unfortunately, it won't happen. Here's hoping that Battlefield 3 is different though :p
