There are certain services which we are obligated to provide additional money to the people giving these services because these services generally stink to give and pay very little.

What do you tip for what service?

I tip 20% for deliveries and restaurant service and whatever spare food I have on me for panhandlers.

I currently am unaware of what to tip a bike mechanic.

That said, gimme' your two cents.

I tip an amount, not a percent.
And I usually tip pretty good, if you go by percentages.

But I only tip well if the person deserved it. If they SUCK at serving, bad or no tip. I don't care how bad your day was, it wasn't my fault. All I want is a meal, don't be a dick.

But that doesn't happen too often, thank goodness.

I tip, but it depends on the service. I always like to leave something but if the waiter/ess was rude they get less than the hard worker who spent all the time asking if everything is good or whatever. They put in the extra effort and deserve the reward.

On deliveries though I always tip, they get paid crap and they have to pay for petrol.

I'm generally fairly generous when tipping, but it sometimes depends on how much I have left.

For instance, if I order pizza, and the pizza is $17, I just give them a $20.

15%-20% depending on the amount and service. And why do fast food joints have tip jars now.

I only tip at restaurants, around 10% - we don't have that much of a tradition of tipping in the UK though...

10% tip for average service, and it depends on how good the service has actually been. I dont tip if they've been terrible and i tip more if they've been better than i expected.

I am an extremely generous tipper. This stems from my working four years as a pizza delivery driver. Typically, 15-20% is the norm for me.

However, if I'm treated rudely or if the service provided is awful because of the serving person, I have no qualms about withholding a tip entirely.

depends on the service really and also changes on how busy the restaurant is too, ie not very busy and they don't come often, no tip, busy restaurant and ask only once or twice, nice tip

tho i always tip well in a bar, the reason is the more you tip and the bar tender is aware of it, they faster they give you service AND remember your drink

It depends on service for me as well but i don't normally go on percent

1.I'm terrible at of-hand math
2. I never have a calculator on me

I just got by scale of like

0-bad
1 to 3-poor
4 to 6-good
7 to 10-great (somewhat rare)
10+ - frequent person only and normally because i forget once and a while

Depends on the quality of service. If I'm treated well and very few mistakes[or none at all] then I'm about 15% tip. If I'm constantly asking for my waiter/tress or my food is incorrect I won't tip at all. Once I went to a restaurant and didn't get any silverware. Got my food and had to wait 20 minutes just for someone to bring me a spoon.
Fast food places or casual stores, I give them my change. I don't like things in my pockets and I have so many coins as is, so I throw them in the tip jar. Sometimes tips are nice, at Coldstone Ice Cream stores, if you tip, sometimes, they will sing and dance for you =P

People still have not told me what to tip a bike mechanic. While I am at it, what do you tip a bellhop and chambermaid.

I'll usually go 15-20%. The absolute worst that I had got a bunch of pennies (bunch = 6) lined up on the table, but that was a horrific waitress. If they look like they're having a bad day and still take care of us well, I'll go 30%.

Bellhops are usually dependent on the Hotel. I usually tip on which floor I'm on. If I'm like.. floor 1, 5 dollars is good. If I'm top floor, I go out of my way to give them a 10-15 dollar tip. My luggage is heavy =P

UK here, we don't really tip. I mean, I was under the impression that they were being paid by the restaurant. If anything, the cooks should get the tips, they do most of the work.

Obviously I still tip where appropriate. Unless the service has been notably bad. If it's good, I'll give more. Quite often I will do the keep the change thing. Or, whatever (silver) coins I have loose. I suppose it probably does work out at around 10-20%.

I tip performance-based, 15% minimum.

I was a busboy for a year, so sometimes I tip 30-50% for the hell of it to make someone's day.
