Man, I just feel REALLY bad for them at this point, because half of the hate is their fault, and the other half isn't.

I mean, between the multiplayer fubaring so bad that it forced a huge delay, and then Inafune getting cocky and kickstarting for a MegaMan Legends type game when this one's not even done, THEN the publisher apparently making that "Anime fan on prom night" trailer without the developer's input, this game is really banging its knees on EVERYTHING.

Hey Keiji Inafune. Just focus on getting the first one out okay. Then we'll talk.
The first one is already finished and shipped. Believe it or not, games tend to have a buffer period between development finishing and release day.

And this may also come as a surprise to you, but game designers tend to think about designing games. It's not as if he's already balls deep in developing a sequel, he's just contemplating one. I find it strange that people are slamming down on Keiji Inafune for having thoughts.
That's rather presumptuous of you. Assessing that I know nothing about game development and that I'm slamming Keiji. I'm simply suggesting that he should slow down precociously because of the rocky reputation that he has gotten in recent years. I think he should focus on fixing his PR before jumping on the next game. Unlike those other designers, not no really in a position to be thinking about sequels at this point. If he want to keep his new carrier as an indie dev that is.

Basically, people were raising questions and concerns about the game based on what they had seen and played. Dina had a habit of either deleting their posts, or outright mocking them, particularly on her twitter account where she was particularly vitriolic. (One in particular standing out where she replied to a person asking how she hadn't been fired yet with "Baby want their bottle? Goo goo gah gah fuck you." or something along those lines.

Not to mention the possibility of acquiring her job through Nepotism. (She claims she got the job thanks to her BF. Either boy friend or best friend.) and being community manager of a forum for megaman based game without ever having played a Meaman game before. (After she said that, she then went on to claim that she played Megaman X.) Again, anyone who raised concerns over this were insulted, had their messages deleted, or were banned.

Added fun in that, thanks to Mr. Anthony "I can't shut up even when it's in my best interest too" Burch, she was made head mod of the English speaking forums, despite English not even being her first language.

Then GamerGate got started, and she started closing and GG positive threads and banning anyone who was even REMOTELY positive towards it which is funny because access to the forum was one of the prizes from donating in the first place. When the patrons complained, she told them to fuck off and called them misogynist nerds, believing there is nothing they can do about it.

Finally, long after it was already too late, Dina announced that she was quitting. Throughout the day she spammed her twitter with frantic accusations and dubious denials, claiming she quit (she was probably made to resign), blaming GamerGate, denying they had anything to do with it, telling them not to buy the game (she's still costing Mighty No. 9 money even after they booted her), trying to minimize the damage they did by taking their money back and making insane claims to have laid a trap for them somewhere on twitter.

Basically, she is everything you DON'T want in a community manager.

... how the hell was this allowed to go on for as long as it did? Didn't Inafune, or anyone else on the team have access to the forums or twitter except for Dina?

Honestly, no one has a clue. There's a theory that Dina's family made a VERY sizable donation to MN9's kickstarter, but that's just conjecture. Always possible they just didn't know. Dina's duties included giving feedback to her bosses, and considering she refused to let negative feedback towards the GAME last there's no way in hell she's gonna let them know about the feedback towards her. Again though, conjecture.

"I am now announcing that I am no longer making games. Please like me again" -Keiji Inafune.

Your statement makes absolutely no sense.

People are upset with Keiji because he wasn't transparent during development. You fix PR by creating a sequel and being transparent during development.

You don't fix PR by not making games. You fix it by making more. I wasn't being presumptuous in assuming you know nothing, it was an educated guess.

Also, your statement was simply "focus on getting the first one out first, then we'll talk". You mentioned nothing about PR, you just made a statement that assumes the first game isn't finished
Lol I didn't say he shouldn't make games but if you said I did then I must have. Have fun beating up that strawman.

Think back to when the next big indie thing was Fez... it got delayed like 2 years, and yeah, it's a nifty, fun little game, but there is no way it lived up to it's development cycle, and half the crowd-funded games nowadays are exactly like that. They are neat little ideas, that will probably be fun games, but then they have multiple delays and developmental problems and a nifty little game that was supposed to be out in a year now turns into a 3 or 4 year wait for what amounts to a game with the gameplay depth of something from the SNES.
I know this is pretty unrelated, but Fez was WAY more than the jumping on platforms and rotating the world. It was really a puzzle game for absolutely insane people, that took the collective work of the Internet years to fully figure out. You needed to use QR codes, know morse code, go to certain levels based on what time it was, translate alien runes into an alphanumeric language to apply those hidden messages to different areas based on clues in the environment, etc. Ignoring that the rotation gimmick alone disqualifies it from being playable on a SNES, there was insane depth to that game and Phil Fish made it as difficult as possible for people to realize that.

I also recommend that anyone look at some SNES games, an extremely large chunk of them don't hold up today at all and many indie games (Mighty no. 9 included) do something more akin to evolving as if everything didn't shift to full 3D with the PS1 as opposed to making games that you could literally play on SNES hardware.

I get that they were making a joke. It's just... Well... I found it to be in REALLY poor taste. And it's not funny. It's not having fun with or playing with the "lol anime nerds (who likely were 99% of the backers for the initial Kickstarter) are lonely virgins", it's just using the stereotype 100% straight.

That's the kind of shit I'd expect from Big Bang Theory trotting out its shitty "LAWL LOOK AT THE NERDS BEING NERDS! LOOK HOW UNCOOL THEY ARE, THEY'RE SUCH NERDS!" jokes.

So, yeah, I recognize that it's a joke. I just found it painfully unfunny and not so much biting the hand that funded the game as ripping the whole damn arm off.

I mean, he was going to make more games after this anyway, that's his income. You don't just stop making games and earning a living because you messed up one project. He might as well try to make a good platformer next and why not a sequel. He already has a lot of the assets and there is a lot of room for improvement here. From what I saw from lets plays Mighty No. 9 wasn't very good. Not the worst thing ever either, just mediocre in every way when there are literally hundreds of decent to great platformers on steam right now. I suppose for people who desperately want a succesor to megaman, it might be interesting but I'm not one of those people.
