Oh, Sony. You're just trying to ruin your PR now, aren't you? Well done. My response tweet:

When it comes to Recaptcha, only one word is verified. It'll be the word that is one consistent font, at least five letters, and is not an actual word. It'll just be a mix of gibberish. The other word is inconsequential, and you can type in anything you very well please.

In what was at all is that anything like something that even approaches a letter? What is it? An Elephant? How can you possible type that, even if you don't need to?
....., i think you might be on to something there zagzag, it does look sorta like an elephant if you look REALLLY close.

Man this is like watching a guy who's a rich, greedy and uptight jackass, get his comeuppance by slipping and falling repeatedly on a wet floor. It's hilarious and sad at the same time.

I am kind of astounded by the fact that several members that have posted on this thread are actually trolling a guy in PR about a security matter. Would any of YOU know what the number sequence was? No. So why would someone at Sony not associated with security know?

And on that matter, yeah, it is KB tweeter account. Doesn't mean he was the guy who retweeted the key. Are you actually searching for reasons to be mean? There are more holes than the ones on my grandma's sweater vest on this story.

Good luck trying to sue people who watched the video for their mere entertainment. I cannot believe Sony anymore. They really are ruining their own image.

Screw them.
Microsoft: coooooooome to me..... i won't try to sue you if you mod our cooooooooooonsole...

seriously though, this is something i would expect of Microsoft, not Sony. i think it's because Sony is based in Japan, and the japanese LOVE to keep their secrets on how they build things (seriously, whenever they send specialists over to the west to build things, they don't let ANYONE watch what they're doing... kinda suspicious) i'm glad some people are finally figuring out how their shit works :p

Sony was recently awarded [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107349-Sony-Wins-Restraining-Order-Against-Geohot] a restraining order against Hotz, and is attempting to subpoena records from YouTube and Twitter containing the personal details of the people it holds responsible for releasing the code, and anyone who has watched any videos associated with it.
They want to know everyone who watched the video too?! Well in that case, I hope they fire and then sue whoever is in charge of that Twitter account too, because reTweeting that code does a hell of a lot more damage than simply watching a video. Of course, they'll probably want to know the IDs of everyone who follows that account now as well.

Oh Sony, you're such a bad joke these days.

EDIT: Ah, after reading a bit more closely at this, it seems someone tweeted the code to Butler before. So, if that's the case, how did he get that code? I foresee many-a-problem with him...
Well there was this one time that GeoHot posted it online for anyone and everyone to see and copy. It's gone from his site now, but it's already out there. Not really a surprise that someone would have the key.

Meh, I'll be honest, this is par for the course when it comes to company schenanigans.

People, PLEASE don't tell me you think Sony is the only one doing this. Every company is up in arms when it comes to piracy.

This console bias is kinda embarassing.
I can't speak for the pirates but I know that I personally am tempted to hack my ps3 just to really open the thing up and see what it can do.
If sony gave half decent support to the thing and it really did do everything, there would be a lot less people interested in this kind of info.
The illegal free games are probably just a bonus for most.

Their problem is that they threw down the gauntlet when they removed the Other OS.

There's a fair difference in releasing a product with restrictions in place, and releasing a product, but then downgrading it over the course of its life by imposing more restrictions.

Do they really expect to get the personal info of all the people who watched the videos? Some of those people probably don't even own a PS3. I would watch one of those vids for kicks and giggles and the only console I have is a 360.

Exactly how is kevin butler, or whoever manages his twitter account supposed to know the PS3 jailbreak code exactly einsteins? Or the USB dongle code or wth ever the 30 digit number was. I doubt even the real vp of sony does not go around with the usb dongle or the jb code memorized, nevermind a comedian that does commercials.

Lots of trolls in this thread period. How about a shot of common sense and get off your fanboy horses and quit flaming a comedian for fing up something he should not have known in the first place.
He doesn't have to know it to know he shouldn't reTweet it. Let me set the scene for you.

Ok, so this guy manages a Twitter that goes out to thousands of PS3 users, and is managed by Sony. The entire company is in a fucking uproar over a string of random letters and numbers that has destroyed their security. Now someone tweets you a random series of letters and numbers with a goading message. Gee, maybe you should google that string of alphanumeric characters, because it's more than likely the SAME ONE THAT YOUR COMPANY IS GOING APESHIT OVER.

He didn't need to know the code, he just needed common sense and the ability to put 2 and 2 together.

Well let's see, first off the 360 didn't pull a feature away after release.

And, oh yeah, it's not trying to get the personal data of everyone who watches a Youtube video

Saying Sony's reactions is par for the course for piracy is like saying a nuke is par for the course in a war. Yes people are up in arms in wars, but using a fucking nuke is overboard, and while it still aims to kill it certainly isn't "par for the course"

My point is, yes everyone is up in arms over piracy, but nobody has been as ass-backwards and needlessly aggressive about it as Sony has.

Lol I thought that said Kevin Bacon at first. Anyways Sony is being a huge whiney twit on this one. It's telling on all the hackers to the adults and won't stop crying until everyone who has been in contact with the code at all are executed.

And you think Microsoft doesn't do that as well?

Ppfffftttahahahaha.

Yep. You definitely outed yourself as a troll. Better luck next time.
Strawman Argument (Sony's bullshit is justified because...Microsoft does it?) followed by:
"Outed yourself as a troll" followed by an irrelevant accusation and a troll statement.

Further, you provide no evidence for your claim. (how has Microsoft devalued their Xbox 360 over time? Last I checked, they didn't blatantly strip features they advertised after the unit was sold.)

Yes. I'm quite the "troll" aren't I?

It's like a gigantic pro-piracy get together.
Tell that to the United States Air Force. They threatened suit with Sony over the removal of those features.

Your "Guilty until proven innocent." attitude is understandable, but still flawed.

anyone who has watched any videos associated with it.
eh what? I watch those sorts of videos with a grudging sense of admiration for those people. how can you not at least appreciate the skill and hard work it took to do?

this doesnt make me a criminal or in breach of any agreement with Sony (seeing as how I don't even own a PS3).

just when I was thinking about getting a PS3 too.

Oh well *middle finger towards Sony HQ* I'll get myself a better XBOX360. Mineb is a little dated.
