That would be a really good way to get more people playing on the PC considering how FPS metagames tend to work

I own a 360 for Halo 4.
I own a PS3 for... oh, for The Last GuardianWELL,SHIT.

But I prefer a mouse and keyboard for all genres, and in every individual case. I'll only use a controller to play that thing I absolutely MUST play if it doesn't exist in PCspace.
you got a PS3 specifically for last gaurdian?....you know at this rate that thing might not even amke it to PS3...

but yeah I'm the same

I can't help but laugh, really. I keep thinking about picking up something- any game at all- to justify having bought the damned thing but... Feeling pretty foolish these days! Heheheh.

Edit: But not foolish enough to refrain from buying a PS4 for The Last Guardian.

While I don't think M&K will ever be 'phased out' as a control option in shooters (or any game for that matter) I do think there is less need for that M&K precision in most modern shooters.
why? because they are dumbed down?
Not intentionally, but I think that might have been a negative side effect in the rise of popularity of shooters on consoles. Doesn't mean games are inherently easier and designed purely for "non gamers", but the bar of entry was definitely lowered. You can still find hard shooters, I mean anyone who played say many of the Call of Duty games on Veteran mode will tell you that they're a *****, regardless of control method. Perhaps not to the extremes of say old Op Flashpoint or Doom II, but still hard in its own way. You can make it easier to kill something, and still make the game a challenge, it's all about finding the right balance.

Dude....you should at Least wait until you know the game even exists for sure

Anyway I strongly suggest you check out infamous one and two...uncharted not so much as I find it terribly overrated, and I generally don't use that word

The one and only way to get me to play a COD game.

Oh goody, a mouse & keyboard Vs controller thread.

'Cause those always turn out good.

Vault, I think you've been around long enough to know better than this.

That's funny because I can't play a FPS on a computer because I find the keyboard/mouse setup makes them damn near unplayable :)

Frankly, I'm going to let the little girl in the taco commercial take over here...

Why not indeed taco girl....why not indeed.
If you always played with a controller, obviously mouse and keyboard will be harder at first. I feel that mouse allows for more precision though.

Considering my utter incompetency with analogue sticks...I would surely hope KBM is not losing. Analogue sticks are pretty much the entire reason I hate gamepads...and one of the reasons I dislike consoles.

I thought we were past the point where people wetting arguing that controllers art as precise as m/k.

And regarding the auto-aiming thing, can anyone tell me if vanquish had auto-aim? Because it certainly didn't feel like it but I also suck at console fps so I might not have noticed

I grew up using controls and I think K&M is the better control option for FPS titles.

Nothing beats the pinpoint accuracy of a mouse, controllers just can't pull that off, however, I also think keyboards are worse than pads for movement and button placement.

In a perfect world, I'd be using a controller-esque analog stick and buttons in my left hand, while using a mouse in my right.

This is the exact same thing as PC vs console. At the end of the day, some people like one, and other people like the other. NOTHING IS F***ING WINNING HERE, THEY BOTH JUST EXIST.

It makes perfect sense really, because the broad audience just likes to kick back, relax and see pretty things happen without much effort.
Not surprisingly FPS shot to the top of the charts when it hit the bottom of skill, and half of that setup is controller so everyone is equally gimped.

The main problem with that article is that it doesn't take into account all the FPS games on the PC, people have a much wider range of games to play. The console FPS's tend to have a high influx at sale then drop off, before another FPS comes out and they all jump on that. PC games community tends to last alot longer on titles. Did they include games like Planetside 2, Tribes ascend and many more F2P FPS's.

Don't forget that if Microsoft hadn't bought Bungie, Halo would have been released on Mac and PC first (Bungie were one of the only companies to concentrate on Apple Mac support for games as a priority)

When I play games, I tend to use the controller for third-person and beat-em up games. Everything else I tend to use a Mouse and Keyboard for the simple reason that it offers better and more precise control, which you need, especially for MP play.

They will both exist until Star Trek Holodecks are created.

While not exactly relevant to the topic (but it is a controller V M/K thread) I realized the other day why I MUST play with the Y axis inverted. To me every First or Third Person game is a sort of sim, and all sims need to have controls like a joystick. It is just the way I am I can't change anything. I'm sure it puts me at a disadvantage compared to people just think of it as moving the cursor and clicking, but not as much as if I tried that approach. It just comes down to personal preference (gosh really?) and while controllers might be in more hands mice and keyboards will still be around while PC grumps like me still want to play the computer games. (Com-pu-pu-pu-pu-pu-Computer Games!)

As much as I would like to play a shooter with my controller, I just can't do it, targeting with just my thumb feels so awkward and I have almost no precision at all. The last shooter I tryed with a controller was Borderlands 2 and I started it with a the sniper dude Zero (very bad choice for the controller). After the first missions zone I had to get back to keyboard+mouse cause it just didn't work for me.
In the end I guess it comes down to preferences and game design.

While i havent been on the PC long for my gaming, the KBM combination is so much more precise than the analogue sticks can ever be for games played in first person perspective (not just shooters), and like a few of you guys, I have been using gamepads/controllers and consoles my entire life.

I still love the controller though, and when playing from third person/over the shoulder perspective, its more preferable than the KBM combo simply due to habit.

I cannot play an FPS on a controller. If it wasn't for auto aim on consoles they'd be impossible to use. If you want to see what I mean, play BF3 PC with a controller.
