As far as I'm concerned as soon as they enter my home, I make it a point to kill them. I don't go hanging around their webs/nests/holes, little bastards.

I don't have an issue with killing them, as most do. If it is a spider large enough to be handled I'll trap it under a glass and release it out of a door or window at the next opportunity. As for something that is too small to be dealt with effectively, I just squish them with a paper towel or something. I don't torture them, not even during my childhood, I try to kill them as quickly as possible.

Over the past year and a half I have lived in the house I'm at now, I have had a number of epic battles with insects.

First, it was the unending ladybug swarm in the winter. Those little red bastards are far worse than zombies and twenty times as annoying.

Now, since it's all hot and humid, I've had to deal with palmetto bugs as big as my fist. Luckily, these are one-on-one fights to the death. If there were swarms of them, I think what little sanity I have left in tact would be in serious jeopardy. Also, giant wasps.

So, no. I feel no remorse whatsoever when killing a bug; especially one which has invaded my living space.

I try to avoid killing them if I can but sometimes I have no control.

And I really don't like spiders. But I try not to kill them. Just get them the fuck outta my house.

It's ok to kill insects. Saying it's not ok is like saying abortion is not ok. They are alive but not really with a consciousness. Hence killing them is ok.

When they are annoying, a problem or by accident. There are a lot more where it came from don't you worry.

No never, consciousness and all that crap.

why couldnt i have a fear of dinosaurs? nope it had to be spiders.
Actually you are also afraid of Dinosaurs. Trust me.

Oh and to everyone justifying the killing using this line, "who cares there are millions of them, the planet won't notice the loss". Let me counterpoint by telling you that there are billions of humans, and the planet wouldn't notice the loss of one of us either.

Oh I am all for killing bugs though, I just don't think numbers has anything to do with the justification of morality here.

When bugs invade my home I give them the same ruling as people who invade my home, Expect death.

If you're squashing bugs on the sidewalk and laughing, that makes you a dick.
If you squash a spider or a fly or a beetle in your house, that makes you normal.
I guess if you find a bug or several bugs in your house, it's okay. Other than that, no.

- Do you feel it is wrong to kill insects/other bugs?
Not for me to judge right or wrong but I feel it's wrong to intentionally disable them for your own enjoyment.

- Under what circumstances do you think it is morally acceptable?
If they're attached to you (sucking blood) or some such thing and you make a conscious decision to kill it then I'm not going to try to stop you, but personally I just shift them away from me.

Recently we had ants on the counter in the shop where I work. I didn't kill them because they don't bother me but customers would come up, see one, and squash them like they were doing me a favour. Every time they did it, they just looked like monkeys to me - reacting to something they didn't quite understand, but had power over, so following their instincts.

- Do you feel a pang of guilt for crushing a bug that wasn't harming you in any way?
I don't kill them, but if I did, I would.

1. I Think its wrong of ME to kill an insect but im not judging other people for it
2. If the insect is personally going out of its way to attack you
3. I once shot a mosquito from across the hall with a rubber band gun, it was splattered against the wall, i went the rest of the day feeling proud of that shot, but that night i questioned my actions of what i have done.

Actually my anti killing regime came from a hunting trip but thats another story. BUT the mosquito had an impact too.

Do you feel it is wrong to kill insects/other bugs?
Not really, although on a matter of principle I don't go out of my way to kill any other creature if it's not harassing me somehow. If the situation was reversed, I would not want a giant stomping me for fun, so I try not to do the same to them. Accidents happen, though, so I don't let it get to me.

Under what circumstances do you think it is morally acceptable?
If the bug is bugging me, or it's on my territory (like a spider in my bathroom), then yeah, I have no problem killing it. Any other animal would do the same to me. No guilt.

Now, if I'm outside and I see a spider, I'll try not to step on it unless it's right where I want to place my foot. It's not on my turf, so why should I bother it?

Do you feel a pang of guilt for crushing a bug that wasn't harming you in any way?
Not really. I don't go out of my way to kill bugs that aren't harassing me, but if I do kill one that's not being a nuisance, I don't sweat it. I don't feel guilt for bugs.

When I was a kid, I was pretty messed up and unhappy. My way of taking my rage out on the world was to kill bugs with my brother. We would pour salt on snails, pull legs off daddy long legs and pour cleaning chemicals into ant-hives.
Ok, THAT falls into my spectrum of wrong. Torturing other creatures that can't defend themselves is pretty low. At LEAST if you're going to torment an animal make it a freakin wasp. THOSE little monsters deserve what's coming to 'em!

I used to kill bugs all the time when I was a kid but now I only kill bugs that are getting in my face. Bugs wander into houses and its normal but once you start pissing me off you're gonna die. As I'm lazy I give up on killing an insect after a couple minutes or it gets away. But if I spot a bee or wasp that little fucker is gonna die. When I was about three I got attacked by a hive of yellow jackets. I rembember it vividly, so now any bee that wanders into my house dies.

Do you feel it is wrong to kill insects/other bugs? No

Under what circumstances do you think it is morally acceptable? Always

Do you feel a pang of guilt for crushing a bug that wasn't harming you in any way? No.

They annoy me and they reproduce enough to overcome people actively trying to exterminate them. Why not get rid of them?
