An 85 average for Killzone 3 isn't bad by any means, though I certainly know certain people who think anything under a 9.0 (or hell, even a 9.5 for certain games) is "horrible" or some nonsense like that.
True that. Back in the day a 8.5 was an insta-buy and to me still indicates a very solid game. I think the scoring system went to hell last year when you look at how many titles got over 9.1. As TISM once said "when everything is excellent, nothing is"
What worries me most is that it's affecting me. I always get a little pre-buying anxiety before I buy a game whenever it's a little less-than-predicted. I'll still be getting Killzone 3, I personally love the meaty controls and the entire atmosphere of it, but I can't help but be a little worried that it's not going to be as good as I initially hoped. That's hype for you.

My problem with both Killzone and Killzone 2 was that the trailers LIED! They make the games seem like you will be fighting in these huge battles,
I haven't played Killzone 2 but it seems to have a much larger scale than most shooters, and Killzone 1 was the only non RTS game I have ever played where it seems you are actually in a real full on conflict.

There are tons of games with shit story I don't see panned.
Damn right.... and the same reviewers who ***** about bad stories probably still say Doom is the best shooter of all time.

A shooter does not need a good story. It needs good shooting. A good story is merely a bonus.
THANK YOU

meh, never particulary cared for the opinions of reviewers, i liked both killzone and killzone 2, and i've already put down a deposit for it some time ago, good enough reason for me

i'm probably gonna get flak for this but i'm going to quote yahtzee for a moment

"its important to remember that all reviews are subjective opinions, and as such they shouldn't really get to you"

Also, any game that scores around a 7/10, sometimes 6/10, usually is a good game and fun. I have games that got 6.5/10 and I like them WAY MORE than all the CoD games that get 9+/10.
Games that get 7/10 or 6/10 tend to be pretty bad. As in, frustrating levels, samey environments, or too much repetition. And the most recent call of duty got about 8.5's, not 9's.

Although I'd like to know what some games you like that are rated around 7/10 are, just out of curiosity.

OT: I disliked Killzone 2's controls because it was impossible to hit anything. Aiming from the hip was worthless unless firing in controlled bursts; aiming down the sights didn't seem to improve things that much. I'm glad that KZ3 seems to have decided to be a from the hip shooter.

The second game really got the feel of war right and I hope that is the same with 3. I wish I could have played the beta but it froze while connecting me to the server. So I finished leveling up to general in KZ2 instead.

Well, I didn't say the latest CoD, I said ANY CoD that got a 9+/10. And yea, of course most games around 6/10 are generally bad but doesn't mean you can't have fun playing them. Most of the games that I played, that are around 6's and 7's were on the original xbox and even then I found myself enjoying games that didn't even get reviews because they weren't that big. Phantom Crash, almost no one I know has even heard anything close to it, got 6's and 7's and it was actually a good game that could be better with some small tweaks and improvements, no major overhaul needed.
