Okay racism is getting way over used now. Please come up with something more original to blame all our problems on.

As if Kinect wasn't stupid enough, now it's racist? Oh how fun

The Escapist: Where people can use the "IF YOU FLIPPED IT AROUND, NOONE WOULD CAAAAAAAAARE!" even when it makes not even the slightest bit of sense.

Actually, I said that if you flipped it around, people would lose their shit over it. But keep trying!

New game for all of you. It's called "Who Exactly Accused Kinect of Being Racist?"
Hint: You're not gonna find it in that article or the ones it links to.
Nor indeed in my post, but don't let that stop you, big guy! You keep on keepin' on, maybe one day you'll make a point.

You know, by accident.

Well, whilst I doubt it's intentionally racist, it's still a pretty gigantic slip up that should have been identified in testing. Nicely done, Microsoft.
I doubt microsoft can bend the laws of light.
Darker colours reflect less light rather then lighter colours.
Fact.
...and? They don't NOT REFLECT. Black people aren't FRAKKING INVISIBLE. Therefore if it's that simple a problem, you up the sensitivity of the device so it compensates. Good grief. Can you imagine how different this thread would be if the system was calibrated on black people, and so the ENHANCED REFLECTIVE PROPERTIES of white people threw the system off and somehow rendered it effectively unplayable for white people? Do you really think it'd just be 'WHITE SKIN IS MORE REFLECTIVE. FACT. PUT UP WITH IT.' Somehow, I doubt it.

You must be black your self since your getting so upset.
Plus I think there would be more fuzz if they would put a special setting for a black person or a special setting for well any race.
Light reflects better on lighter skin=FACT.
It's not racism.
Since racism is direct hate at any race, while this is a technical problem.
Because you can't bend the laws of physics.

Well, I think they're just being nice by not saying all of the mean things about gamespot that the article might entitle them to.

I'd just like to point out that Gamespot didn't call it racist. They did do an article saying that the facial recognition failed on two of their dark skinned employees when it worked consistently on the light skinned employees. Racism was brought up specifically in headlines and comments calling it not racist.

There is an appreciable difference between reporting experiences and alleging racism.

Actually, I'm as white as snow. I just don't see why I should be all like HURP DURP NOT MY PROBLEM because that might make me seem like a bit of an asshole! PS, I explicitly said it's not racist. Look up! Right there in the first sentence! my word, has it been there all along? It has! Cuh-razy. however, a technical problem THAT HUGE is a pretty basic blunder well within their capacity to resolve. Obviously the article makes it clear there's some ambiguity as to whether the problem indeed exists, but under the circumstance that it may exist somewhat, I'd say it qualifies as a "major balls up". See, we have this thing we've developing for a few thousand years on and off, you might have heard of it? Goes under the catchall name of 'technology' and we've done some crazy things with it! You know, like making cameras sufficiently sensitive that peoples skin colour is not relevant as to whether videogames work or not.

Unless this is an obvious troll, they're just trying to grope for ANY opportunity to say bad things about our beloved medium.

This is just a pathetic attempt for someone or a group of someones to try and leap onto the californian bandwagon.

EDIT
And as for the whole 'Kinect has trouble recognizing users with dark skin' thing, that's hardly the machine being racist.
1. Machines can't think for themselves.
1a. Yet.
2. The Kinent (presumably) wasn't made with a built in racism chip.
3. Microsoft will find the problem and fix it. Probably.

I take it that you know using caps effectively makes you sound like an idiot? Evidently not. You do now, anyways..

It;s called offensensitity. aka always being offended about everything even if it is not applicable to them.

They could also be called republicans. no that was off side.

Life is offensive. They need to get over it.

Will admit it has some bugs but I highly doubt the creators of Kinect were thinking hey let's be racist.

Jesus Christ... I knew it. As soon as I saw the title I thought "Some people are getting upset because Kinect doesn't recognize people with darker skin." And look what this is about. Some people getting upset because Kinect doesn't recognize people with darker skin. This is so stupid. Of course darker skin doesn't reflect as much light as lighter skin, THAT'S WHY ITS DARKER.

People's stupidity sometimes. It makes me want to beat them over the head with a dictionary or part of an encyclopedia...

And thank you. It's good to know guys like you can't even address a direct question, albeit you take one addressed to the crowd and apply it singularly to you. And that's kinda stupid. But it's a talent.

And of course, when you sarcastically say something, like what you said about people going nuts if white people couldn't play the Kinect, that implicitly means you meant the opposite of what you said. That's what sarcasm is, in fact. People really would be up-in-arms if Kinect couldn't be played by white people, but you sarcastically said that, meaning that you don't believe it would be the case. And that would be wrong.

Just keep turning up your nose and failing to say anything; I'm easily tricked by that old Internet chestnut, and I never tire of over-emotional people making vague statements about how they could not understand my posts instead of, you know, responding to the plain English words. It's kind of a sign that you can't discuss like an adult, but... you knew that already.

Dude, don't be a racist.

OP: I agree. Kinect is obviously a cleverly created ploy to show that Microsoft doesn't care about black people.

Seriously.

For real.

Gee golly gosh, thanks Mister! I've never used the intersteak before! Could you point me to the lobby so that I can speak to the net secretary? I've got an appointment on my electro-mail account but I cannot find the web room to attend it! But y'see.... pardon my newbish ways, "Sir", But I've been on more real allcaps drop insertions than you've ever simulated. So if I feel like choosing to use allcaps to demarcate RIDICULOUS HYPERBOLE in a more than somewhat ironic manner, you'll have to forgive me for just rolling with it.

if you read the article it sates in the title that its a lighting problem.. but the last paragraph states

"It also failed to recognize another darker-skinned GameSpot employee after four calibration attempts."

but mainly its a lightning problem, and if your dark-skinned in a dark room, well good luck

either way what i got out of the article is that Kinect sucks..but then again I am biased against non motion gaming. I prefer to keep my exercise and gaming separate.. I sit to play controller and move games, and every day I run 2miles to get exercise..

I think the term "racist" was just used to get people to click on the article, the title was given by the author. If the title had read " blah blah blah dark skinned, lightning problem" not as many people would have read the article. Using the term "racist" is just one of thoes pop words that catch your eye and makes you want to read the article

I do agree that it is stupid but I doubt most people will "smart" people will see it what it is for. Not to hate and i love the move, but the original person probably like PS Move and hates XBOX..

UPDATE:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6283514.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;2

Thats the original arcicle via gamespot

http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/msnbc-article.aspx?cp-documentid=26231438

The 2nd article the one this post is about

notice the difference in titles of the articles?
notice that the first article mentions nothing about "racism"?

somebody at consumer reports add that term, for his or her own reasons?
