Not in the least. I was being completely genuine as to my motives for everything I've just said (to you). I was actually dropping the act to treat you with some respect, since you'd gained a faulty belief that I was a troll, and I was attempting to remedy it. No act. I pinky-swear it.
Look, it's all very well punctuating and spelling correctly on the internet, but sometimes it's just a bit pretentious. Come on dude, do you talk like that in real life?
Nope, much more ironically. There's a lot more 'totes' and 'whatev's' and stealing slang that I'd never normally use in order to mock it, and all kinds of fly-ass shit like that. I'm not sure how I'd not punctuate and spell properly in speech, though. Would it go like this? Because I can totally do this if you want. Note a porblem.

I agree, If it's calibrated on a white person, then it won't work as well for a black person, because of the light thing already mentioned. But if it's calibrated for a black person, then it won't work as well for white people, because it reflects too much. How can they win? By making it so that the majority of people who use the damn thing can get it to work.

Now you're just being immature... I think. I'm not really sure why we're still arguing anymore.

They could calibrate it for people who are half and half, but yeah, it's more likely a white person is gonna get Kinect than a black person, mainly because there are more whites than blacks in the US and Europe.

Well, whilst I doubt it's intentionally racist, it's still a pretty gigantic slip up that should have been identified in testing. Nicely done, Microsoft.
But I would like to know if they could have done anything about this, had it even been identified in testing.[footnote]Attention: some skin colors do not reflect light as well as others, results may vary[/footnote]

I mean, really. Ah well, even more publicity for Kinect and Microsoft.

Its not racist, I mean c'mon. But that is a serious design flaw. It doesnt pick up black clothing, or black people. The wii's crap but at least you can wear a black shirt or you know, be black and play it

Jesus...
The very reason one may perceive another person's skin as 'dark' is because it reflects less light.
Less light = less stuff for a camera, which is wholly dependant on light, to register.
A physically obvious truth is not racism.
How stupid can people be?

I've never had a problem with facial recognition software, I guess I'm an "acceptable" level of black :p But seriously, this really has more to do the camera quality than anything (same for the HP joke vid). Lower quality sensors don't filter light that well, so darker faces don't get recognized easily. If MS used a higher quality sensor, this wouldn't be an issue (then the new increased cost would be! :D ).

How ridiculous can you get? It's racist because darker skin doesn't reflect light as well as fairer skin does?
Did... did you read that article? Not only is 'racist' in quotes to show it is not being used in the normal sense, but the article is claiming there is no problem getting readings from people of darker skin.

I.. Am genuinely lost for words.

What is it with people shouting 'RACIST!!' at every little fucking thing?
If it's worth anything, I hear it all the time at school dude, ... from 18-year olds.

In the meantime, I'm going to hum the Troll Tetris remix.

Title of Thread: Kinect dubbed "racist"
Title of Artile: Kinect not 'racist'
Yeah, it's more about the issue of it even being considered racist, but couldn't you link to the article talking about it having technical problems (not exactly racist) along with the one disproving it?

Like say THIS ONE:

Yeah so, I'm guessing that most of you didn't actually read the article and missed the fact that "racist" was in quotes. If anything, the term was meant in jest. The issue was that those wearing darker clothing and with darker skin, were having a harder go with the Kinect.

That's it. Everyone calm the fuck down already.

While I should roll my eyes, I'm mostly just thankful one of you Nellies actually said what you were really thinking instead of that "GAWD TEH WHITE MAN IS SO PERSECUTED NOWADAYS! EVERYONE CALLS EVERYTHING RACIST! I PERSONALLY GET CALLED RACIST EVERYTIME I WALK DOWN THE STREET AND I'M CLEARLY NOT RACIST! BLACKS ARE ALWAYS SO SENSITIVE!" stuff.

The words "on the rag" come to mind, but that would be sexist to say. I know plenty of rational females.
No, this guy was probably taught by parents or something that this is how you talk to other people. Grown-up terms, childish thoughts.

You think that's bad? My PS3's on a low shelf and I've hurt my back so it's incredibly difficult to change games!

There was an episode of a show called "Better Off Ted" with exactly the same premise. The company that was the subject of the show decided to change all of its motion sensors to the new model. But this new model wasn't calibrated the same as the old ones, and couldn't recognize people with dark skin. One of the characters had to sleep in the lab all night because the sensors couldn't sense him.

OT: How ridiculous can you get? I'm hoping this is the worst of it. That is an actual oversight that should be addressed. Of course, actually labeling it "racist" is going a little too far. More "stupid" or "a mistake in need of fixing" is more appropriate.

Well, if they designed it with the idea that more white people would be buying it than black, then it is weirdly kind of a form of racism.

But what are white people buying Dance Central for anyway? White people can't even dance YEAH I WENT THERE

Wow so nobody is actually reading the link? way to go escapist
From the original post I don't think he read it either, or at least he misunderstood it. The title of the page is clearly "Kinect not racist".
Everyone is messing up by not reading.... it says in that link that it's a calibration error, at least some read the links.

Cookies to anyone who read the article, none for the original poster since he didn't understand what he read if he did...
