I know, I have a feeling that in 50 years time we'll be telling our hypothetical grandkids that this was created for a games console and they'll be like "whaaaa?" It should be useful pub trivia at least.
Those kids will be like "whaaaa?", because they will be amazed that we ever used anything as rudimentary as our own hands to navigate a virtual space. I'm pretty sure we will be well past anything as primitive as using our hands in 50 years.

You know I've seen Minority Report a few times, and that interface looked awful. I mean it was all a jumbled mess with no good contrast. Also I don't really know why engineers seemed eager to skip past the "Sensor glove" and go for hand recognition. I mean it would be so much easier for a computer to recognise sensor points on the hand than just a bare palm. It would mean a llot fewer errors. It's why the PS Move has a glowing ball on top.

This is why they only focused on the casual gamers. The hardcore people can take care of themselves!

Wait, it's on the computer now? So what you are saying is it might actually have good games. I kid, I kid. [small]...kinda[/small]

This could be a cool interface. Thought it makes me feel as thought kinect will be getting more use as an interface tool for the PC than a gaming device for the 360.

was a cool little video did seem to be a area of dead space where he was moving his arms and nothing moving on screen. and that massive dead zone in the center of the body where the hands/arms do not stand out from the torso.

do not see this replacing my mouse for photoshop, while cool i have doubts you could get the 1 to 1 precision you need for detailed photo retouch and general artistic work on computer.

some applications in 3d might be cool like rotating a 3d model on its axis to get a better view of it or a view of the scene, but selecting out nav meshes and vertex points and holding alt or shift to bypass points or select those behind or holding shit to select multiple points i mean i am just not sold as think having any real practical application for work type stuff despite the wow factor.

Y'know, if they mixed this with the hologram-like technology shown here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105250-Japanese-Pop-Star-Draws-Crowds-Despite-Being-a-Hologram], they could probably make a truly awesome-looking setup.

You know, you could probably arrange 3-5 Kinects in a space and use the Kinect hack to set up a low-cost mocap studio or something.
This is also a sweet idea. Someone should get on that!

This is about the only reason I'd buy a Kinect. Microsoft would be insane to kill this. Hell...they should pay the guy, buy the program and include it with the Kinect, they'd get a helluva lot more sales than they would just selling a game acessory.

I know I can't be the only one thinking MMOs like WoW would be interesting with this kind of interface.

Of course, this is also a step down the road towards murderous robot houses, but I suppose we'll have to burn that bridge when we come to it.
FTFY

Because you'll definitely want to burn that particular bridge.
Fortunately for us, murderous houses are terrible at dodging flamethrowers.

yeah...this is pretty much the one thing I wanted from Kinect
come to think of it, it's something I wanted (fully fleshed out tho) since I saw Minority Report lol
