I've burnt rice, forgot to turn the heat down. That was fun to clean. I've also burnt popcorn, both in the microwave and on the stove.

Then there was a day when my brother wanted sausages for breakfast, so he gets up early and starts grilling them.
A bit later I'm called to the kitchen. "The grill's on fire, what do I do?" he says calmly, as if this is a regular occurrence. This takes a few seconds to sink in before I bolt out of bed and almost trip down the stairs to see him staring at the grill in fascination. I can see the small flames flickering on the bottom of the tray where the fat has collected.
I wet a tea towel and take the tray out, covering it with the damp tea towel and so putting out the fire. My brother looks almost disappointed now at the lack of fire. I spare a seconds thought on his apparent lack of common sense before returning to my bed.
The sausages were fine. My mum, who was reading, was blissfully unaware of what had just happened.

My cooking isn't so bad, I end up cooking the family meal a couple of times a week so it can't be that bad. Either that or no one has tastebuds in my family.

I haven't had many culinary mishaps, though the worst thing I set on fire in my lifetime was a piece of steel I was supposed to be welding in shop class. I had my mask on and could feel things getting hot, and could smell burning metal. I took my mask off, and right in front of me was a red flaming piece of hot steel. Learned my lesson for the day, anything can be set on fire with enough oxygen and the right amount of heat. It's definitely made me more cautious about brutally overcooking anything in terms of food.

too often to count -.-
Oh yes. Thankfully on my new oven there's a wind up timer. No more burnt pizza, yay!
It'll probably go cold instead...

Speaking of too much salt, I just remembered one that a friend of mine from college did.

Now, she's cooked before, she knows what she's doing. But, she decided to make pickles one day (why anyone would want to do that, I'm not sure). She had never done it before, so she was going from a recipe. She finally got to the step of adding the salt. The recipe called for '3/4 cup of salt.'...But, for some reason, instead of seeing a fraction, she read it as '3 OR 4 cup of salt'...No one was around to inform her of the error she made. When they were done, she took a big eager bite of her creation...In case you were wondering, she went with 4 cups.

I let the water boil TOO much when I was boiling eggs (I was also doing laundry). The water got low and the eggs EXPLODED.
POW!

My funniest kitchen fail was when I was trying to heat something up in the microwave. I had reset the counter to the time I wanted and put in the food. Nothing happened. A few minutes later I discovered that the door to the microwave was open. lmao

I was barbequing (god, the grammar nazis are going to rip me apart for this one) when a nice bit of charcoal decided to nestle itself into the table standing next to it. Result: 3 beautiful pieces of meat marinated in a nice puddle of molten plastic.

I am generally not too bad for this kind of thing.
MY GIRLFRIEND ON THE OTHER HAND

She was 11. She says it was the first time her parents had bought Toasted Shreddies (bear with me). "An interesting concept," she did not stop to think. Toasted Shreddies, meet toaster. Kitchen, meet fire.

1) TOASTED Shreddies. TOASTED. Adjective - a state of being applied to a product that has been through the toasting process. Requires no further toasting.

2) What the FUCK are Toasted Shreddies!? The box said FROSTED SHREDDIES!!

3) Does toast still look like a word to you guys? It really doesn't to me anymore. Look at it. Toast.

So my dad was cooking a chicken and went to pull it out since it was done. He grabs a side of the glass pan and starts to walk over to the stove when the pan just snaps in half and shatters as it hits the ground sending hot chicken grease and fat splattering everywhere. He just stood there for a minuet with that expression on his face, still clutching the other half of the pan in his ove-glove.

Oh and the chicken tasted delicious.

A couple months back...I burnt ramen noodles.
I felt like a failure.
If it makes you feel any better, you're not the only person to do this.

I've managed to burn all sorts of noodles.

Pot Noodle, super noodles and even ramen noodles.

I lose track of time and then I forgot that I put them on. By the time I've realised, it's too late.

Other than that I'm an ok cook, just need to start paying attention to what I'm doing.

When I first made egg fried rice, I didn't boil the rice first. Hmm crunchy.
I broke the toaster and blamed my sister. :D

My cooking skills are quite good now, I made a chicken and salad sub for me and my boyfriend and preferred it to the Subway ones :D

When I was 7, I was playing with my chemistry set that was for older teens. My experiment called for me to heat the Iron fillings in a test tube filled with water on a Bunson burner. I was of course 7 so mother would not let me have a Bunson burner, I instead used a Microwave and set the timer to 99:99. I do not know why I set it for that long. Long story short, it made a large mess after 5 min.
