Kotick Calls Call of Duty a Tribute to the Military

While it is always good to see someone support our military, I can't help but feel Kotick is trying to steal MoH's "realism" mantle in light of recent games. While CoD is still a great game, it was never about the soldier. We understood it, and the community at large understood it too. The only reason Kotick is saying this is because EA stumbled with MoH, and now Kotick is trying to take the title of "Most Respectful to the Military". I do feel while CoD will probably be a better GAME, MoH has stood for telling the soldier's experience, and Kotick's cred with the gaming community will never change that. I honestly believe Kotick would have said that CoD provides a "better gaming and entertainment experience" if MoH was a better game than it is, but since it isn't, he's trying to step in and take over that role too. Of course, no one in the gaming community will listen to him until he cleans up his business practices, so it really doesn't matter to begin with!

*and exhale* whew, that was long...

Its better to keep him on a leash. There should be a big warning sign next to him so people would stop releasing him everytime he does that puppy look of hes.

ps. game series that REALLY are a tribute to the military are Operation Flashpoint (only the first game) and ARMA 1&2.
You forgot about Project Reality, it was actually made with the help of vets
And lets you re-act the battle of Fallujah as Talibans. This is why modding community is so great! :D

As a Brit and seeing that much of COD2, 4 and 6 were about British military too, i find this to be a slap in the face

You listening, MoH?

THAT is how you defuse the brunt of public opposition.

Having said that, I don't really consider the COD games the paramount of...well, actually...hmmm

I suppose my main gripe is the cheap storytelling, but that's hardly "disrespectful", just dumb.

I guess it is kinda honouring the armed forces, if only because it makes 'em look like action heroes

I hate you.... with every ounce of my being.

The soldiers need help adjusting from their old world to the new one. I for one am happy that social responsibility is not dead in our capitalist society and that people that truly need the help can get it!
I'm not saying that they don't need adjusting, but I am saying it's their fault that they need adjusting. Perhaps my post seems a little reactionary, but ultimately if you join the military you expect (even encourage) the trauma, the alienation, and the injury.
Either you're attempting to troll this entire thread, or you're just a piece of crap. I can't tell... is there a difference between the two?

I always think back to that line back in Starship Troopers. There are civilians and there are citizens. Those soldiers pay a price higher then you possibly could imagine, all to defend what you take for granted, and yes you do take it for granted if what you posted is an actual belief and not just to troll. They deserve the help and donations that Kotick and many others offer. Even if in Kotick's case of having some other motive behind it, it's still going to the right place. So for once I guess I'll have to say "Good Job Bobby." .... I feel ill after saying that now...

We civilians need to show our respect for what those men and women do on a daily basis.

I read this and the words, "MEDAL OF HONOR REBOOT" are in my mind
I read the first paragraph and thought the same thing. At least MoH was kind of aiming at that, and letting everyone know about it, using real soldiers and their experiences to help make the game, and then have a lengthy tribute at the end of the game. IMO, Kotick just seems to be throwing words out there to be used for quotes and sound bits to make himself look better.
Maybe Treyarch should get some soldiers to help them out. They might make a decent game for once.

And sure.... donating a million dollars is a grand gesture. If it were unadulterated. Considering the COD franchise makes hundreds of millions of dollars upon each new release, thanks to the very existence of the military to base this game on. I think Activision is getting off VERY cheaply.

Imagine if someone wanted to write a book about your life..... and offered you a million dollars for the rights, but also informed you that they would be pocketing tens of millions of dollars in profit. You'd demand a better percentage would you not?

Activision is not being charitable at all.... they are simply offering up a finders fee. The biggest benefactor of charity is in fact Activision.
They would've been useful in the Activision meetings for MW2 when they talked about perks. "No, I can't teleport 10 feet and knife someone to death." Activision replies, "Really? Well, in this game you will. Infinity Ward is going to do whether they want to or not! Muhahahah!"

One million dollars coming from Activision is simply an insult. Plain and simple.

If Call of Duty is respectful to the armed forces, then Plants vs. Zombies supports collectivist naturalism, it makes just as much sense.

We interrupt this comment for breaking news: Kotick's douchebag score just jumped another 100 points as he has just unlocked the achievement for 'Foot in Mouth - Military Family Outrage.'

I like how the games that are tribute to American soldiers have the main characters which to storyline revolves around as English people.

Anyway 1 million is nice......yeah 1 million... 1 big million.

Medal of Honor did more towards actually depicting what people did and yet it still gets less love than CoD......
You mean one guy solo'ing entire armies? No...wait thats's CoD, my bad...wait no! That is Medal of Honour...or is it CoD...I'm confused.
Actually it's just about every shooter ever, really. Not a particularly bad thing.

Anyway: I'm shocked at all you guys. Really. Bobby Kotick isn't a nice guy, or a particularly good CEO, but nor is he the Antichrist. We should all at least grudgingly accept that donating money to war vets is a good thing, no matter whom it came from. And really, you guys are blowing his comment about CoD being a tribute to the military way out of proportion. Sure, it isn't accurate or realistic. Sure, MW2 apparently sucked. But him making an inaccurate statement is really no reason to wish him death by fire.

You're all taking your hatred of Kotick way too far.
Apparently! Apparently! What is this madness! It's clearly proven that it is the game is terrible, but yes; I approve of the donations regardless of who donates them, it was nice of him. (Just because it's a PR stunt doesn't mean it isn't nice, it still goes to the right place.
