Can't we make it so neither of of them gets the profits?

Also: Who here plans to get this game?
It costs tons of money to make an MMO, so yes, they should get money, without them there is no MMO. But Bioware should at least get a mention, that is disheartening.

Also, yes I will get the game, get to the end of one character's story line, and from there judge whether to stay or go.

Kotick, its not about how good the games are, its about how much money they can make.

Budweiser is undeniably the largest beer producer in the United States and arguably has the largest market share consumption of the American market in regards to all its related products.

Does that make Budweiser good because they're obviously making lots of money?

Answer is no. Find a local IPA from a local micro-brewery and you'll see the difference, doesn't matter if the local micro-brew is making 6 - 7 figures a year and Budweiser is making billions. Quantity != Quality

WoW could have 8 million subscribers for the rest of time, that still wouldn't make it a good game.

***** please, you somehow believe EA would be doing this whole malarkey if it didn't squirt gobs of cash in their mouth.

Bioware isn't considered a monolith though like Blizzard, EA or LucasArts. Its basically like talking about which CEO should get the profits of a product while ignoring the workers who built the damn thing.

Pretty sure EA are the main financial force and LA are pretty much providing the license; last time I saw them anywhere near the game was several years ago.

For better or worse, Kotick is right about TOR not being able to dethrone WoW.

Its really the same with Call of Duty and Battlefield, EA thinks that by merely imitating they can outdo, when in fact it has never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever worked. Ever.

This is just history repeating itself.

I'm still looking forward to how guild wars 2 is going to impact everyone else, since it sounds like its got a huge budget, no monthly fee and gets rid of the holy trinity.
This is not true.

Guild Wars 2 did NOT get rid of the holy trinity, they consolidated it. Anyone can tank, heal or DPS. But make no mistake, the holy trinity is still there.
Dps is still there but tanking and healing are... different, tanking for instance is less about keeping the focus of a mob and more about controlling a mob by stunning it or distracting it in some way, and it doesn't really have healing, its got support, most of the heal effects that heal others are just aoe rege... screw it, I'm lazy and I have a project to do, here is a link.
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/combat/healing-death/

In short, its kind of got its own trinity but its not the one that all the others have and its much much more flexible.
Have you heard the phrase "A rose by any other name..."? That seems to fall right in line with what that phrase means.

They can say all day that they got rid of it, but at the end of the day, it's the exact same roles.

Except the rolls aren't class specific, they can be changed when you want to, and healing is the least of the support role part.

Stealing Money

It made me lol, being the multimillion dollar company they are.
Instead of it being Friendly competition they just call it stealing money.

Shame on both of them.
Actually, those are Greg Titos (the author of the article) words. He just likes to (like many news publications) twist/sensationalize things people say to get people interested in a story. He took 'Lucas is going to be the principal beneficiary of the success of Star Wars' and made up the 'steal money' part just for the headline. He never actually says that they said that.

Ahh I see.
Thanks for letting me know :)

It wont kill WoW, it might Dent the skin but kill it, it wont. People always point to MoP as its deathknell due to one races model? Same people that refused to play Windwaker 'cus of "gay cartoon" Link I suspect. I've played WoW a long time and have seen many of its Deaths and killers pass like Harold Camping does games news and I still doubt its possible outside of what ever Titan happens to be. As far as i can work out its biggest threat at the moment is Diablo 3... which... yeah not exactly a loss for Ac/Blizzard

As much as people are going mad in the Beta, I'll wait and see what the end game looks like for Star Wars before i spend the money. Rift and Aeon have taught me harsh, harsh truths that are hard to shake.

Still, Its a fight Between EA and Activision. Its like watching Paul McMullan and Piers Morgan have a fight to the death, either way you hope a bear kills the winner.

So what does he want? Sympathy? HA! I'd rather give my money to Lucasarts anyhow. Sure TOR may be "WOW with Lightsabers" but I've said before that as long as Bioware can do that and tell an amazing story I'd buy the shit out of that game. And they have. And I will.

Why can't both co-exist? Why must one "Die" for the other to "Live"?

I mean, if you want pure NUMBERS, "League of Legends" is currently more popular than WoW is. It has both more subscribers AND more current players. Oh no, Warcraft is doomed. It should just die to let League of Legends take us to the promised land.

If TOR is good, great. Buy it, play it, enjoy it. If WoW is still scratching your itch, good. Play it some more.

I don't even seen why Bobby Kotick feels the NEED to "defend" his million-dollar baby... unless, of course, he's legitimately nervous about the competition.

This.

What pisses me off is that they're considering the huge amount of players, and therefore monthly profit, they have and earn as small.
Sure, they've lost 800k.
They still have ten fucking million people playing their game.

Maybe WoW is crumbling, as much as I hope it doesn't, but still, "stealing subscribers" is just a bit childish if you ask me.
It can't be stealing, as neither company owned the people in the first place...

The more I look into this, the more it makes me think of League of Legends. I know that's a different type of game, but support doesn't necessarily mean heals. Your description of tanking makes me think of someone like Leona, who relies on crowd control abilities. That kind of thing.

It's not re-inventing the wheel, and it isn't eliminating the roles. It just seems like it's removing some restraints on roles. Like you choose a base role and specialize from there.
