If its like 5 dollars a month, for servers occasional maps and weapons I'd be down with it. A persistent MMO fps that was good might be a good idea.

This is ridiculous. Hellooo Medal of Honor! I played it before Modern Warfare came along and I won't hesitate to go back now. Thanks for helping me see the light, Kotick.

Regretabbly, I don't think so. Enough lemmings people bought the mappack for $15. If even a fraction of those will shell out money every month, it'll be profitable.

Here's the thing, I won't pay money every month, not even for a real MMO. I can live comfortably without Activision games, and I'm sure the same is true for other people. If you disagree with shitforbrains Kotick, don't buy any more games from that idiotic publisher.
Pretty much this.

If it happens, it'll be successful. The Call of Bro-duty players will bend over for it, the console FPS lovers will do the same too, and so will Mommy & Daddy if it keeps Little Timmy from bouncing off the walls.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
CoD gets a sod of a lot of online players who may as well use the maps as a see the games as a persistent online world. Kotick is just giving players what they want.
For all you bitching and moaning about Kotick, people are still playing the games and buying the overpriced maps. He'll fucking clean up with this.
The guys a business man.

audiences are clamoring for it
Bull-fucking-shit
That's like the IRS saying I'm clamoring to pay my taxes every quarter.

Fuck this man, he has no place in this business.

I don't he realises that most gamers are out to spend the least amount of money possible. While I'm sure there's dollar signs rolling in his eye sockets and nickel alloy clogging the arteries of his black burned out heart, he probably doesn't realise that this service will bite them in the arse and players will lost interest.

The fanbase for Call of Duty is already dwindling thanks to the removal of dedicated servers from MW2.
Dwindling is not quite the right word. The game has sold 20 million ex and the PC version is like 10-15 % of that, and maybe half of them is pissed because no Dedies.

500 000 angry PC-gamers among 20 000 000 + other gamers is hardly anything uncomfortable for Koticks wallet or the future of the franchise.

If they tack on a subscription fee that I need to pay to enjoy playing Call of Duty games online, in addition to paying for XBox Live, buying the game and buying map packs, I will no longer play Call of duty games. It's as simple as that.

However I feel Kotick is referring to something else.

MW2 NEVER had dedicated servers. Sold over 20 million units, plus all the pirated copies.
Dwindling fanbase for Call of Duty? You're joking right?

Another one to add to my list of "Why CoD is only going to get worse".

Sad thing is, people will gladly throw money at this guy's feet just to play the monotonous bullshit.

stuff like this is the reason that Bobby Kotick is one of the most depised people in gaming. mark my words, this'll kill Call Of Duty. we need to kill this before it spreads

This man needs to be appropriately displaced from the living realm, for the good of all things gaming. ASAP.

Interesting question: If Facebook began charging for their service at the same time as CoD, who would lose the higher percentage of users?

I'm going for Facebook, but it's a close call.

anyone up for some battlefield bad company 2 then?
If this doesn't cause a huge shift to that, I don't know what will.
Pretty much. I play and enjoy MW2 despite the issues, but it isn't worth paying more than I already have for it. I already pay for WoW and that is enough.
