This guy makes Greed looks like a wimp. Unless of course, it's a full fledged CoD MMO, with real invasion of countries, PMCs running amok, real progression >.> Too bad that ain't happening.
Greed? you mean from FMA?

Well, at least someone finally got the memo to Kotick that the head of an alleged "games" company should at least pay lip service to things like "fun" rather than referring to it only like some kind of fungal infection one hopes won't spread through the company.

Of course, he's still the kind of guy who can say the customer base is clamoring to pay ten to twenty bucks a month for what they're used to getting for free with a straight face...

Ah Koltic, I can already hear the future echoes of millions of gamers crying out in joy at the news of your retirement.

It's because of this I'm glad i've stuck with Medal of Honor over the years.
okay, the little bold touch I must admit I liked. the new MOH looks like it could be a blast and since dice are making it, I pretty am bound to at least like it.

I really do think such a service would just kill COD, everyone would flock to other titles offering about the same, or better without an insane subscription. The big fear though, one which i'm honestly worried about is, what if it works? If it becomes massively successful, others would certainly do the same.

It's quite a clever idea in that it'd stop people playing the series competitors. Think about it; if you're paying a subscription to play CoD you'd likely play it as often as possible to convince yourself the investment is worth it.

So in doing this Activision make up the numbers in terms of people who could be put off by the idea, and gain an exceptionally loyal player-base.

wait...
Audiences clamoring for it? Oh yeah, I can see that.

"No, no, please! I want to pay you even more money to play this game! Please, please take my cash! Here, have my car, the deed to my house, and my firstborn son too! I want you to take all this!

When this kicks in, I will get kicked out. Me and a couple of million players. If this gets passed, they deserve to get a voodoo doll modeled after them. I haven't bought the map packs either. They can go yiff themselves for all I care. I have never paid for online games and I do not plan on starting. If Kotick wants to act like a dick, that's his right. But it is also my right to tell him to fuck off and away from my wallet.

Someone please call a Pit Fiend and Wish him away...

I suppose he had to say customers are clamouring for it. He could hardly have told the media 'We are going to rob our customers blind, film it, then put it on the internet before charging people to watch the video.'

Though with a lot of friends being cod fans, most people will probably pay just to keep their shiny prestige they spent so many hours attaining.

They'll loose me as a player. I'm just not rich enough to pay for subscriptions, a reason why I'm not involved with too many mmorpgs and damn sure won't be paying for Call of Duty.

Ah HAH! He did it! Kotick said "compelling"! Proof positive that he is simply a ROJO [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.152144-Escapist-News-Network-ROJO] who has gone rampant and now threatens the future of gaming humanity. We must rise against him now! I'll need half a dozen plasma rifles, sixteen pounds of C4, thirty feet of copper wire, a horse saddle (Western, not English), a jackknife, half a tube of Superglue, fourteen caltrops, six square feet of pink felt, and a Bic lighter. And after I'm done with all that, then we can go stop Kotick!

OT: I think I will slowly but surely quit gaming. This, "let's ruthlessly extort the gaming crowd until we cause another Video Game Crash" is just stupid. I mean, you pay the full price for the game($60), then pay for DLCs(~$20), map packs(~$15), the online subscription(~$20/month) and the extra in-game items(~$20) too. That's a total of around $120 plus a monthly fee of $20. And that's only one game. My goddamn rent is lower than that.

No matter, after the second Video Game Crash, it'll be a bleak world for us...
I think you hit the nail on the head there. Bobby Kotick will just price everyone out of games. I hope whoever pays that man's salary fires him as soon as possible. Because Mr Kotick's voracious greed will destroy gaming for everyone.

Surprisingly, I think this is decision will turn a lot of people off Call of Duty. Most of its player base, at least those I've interacted with, continue to play it primarily because it doesn't cost them anything extra. I don't think that most CoD fans are the same sort of people who can legitimize shelling out $12 a month for a MMO (I'm one of them, and please leave your criticisms of that fact at the door).

Also, having a game with a subscription fee on Xbox Live is not only feasible, it's been done before. Phantasy Star Universe, for the Xbox 360, requires a $10-a-month "Guardian's License" to play online. And, FYI, when you're bored with the game and want to cancel it, it's a pain to stop those payments.

I know he means that he wants a massive online role playing game(or in this case a massive online first person shooter(a game like world of warcraft, but with first person shooter elements)) for call of duty.

Heres his quote to prove this. "I would love to see us have an ONLINE Call of Duty WORLD. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience."

its already the publisher of the biggest selling FPS of all time, what could they do differently with MORE money, unless hes just an immoral money grabbing tosser who would withhold bonuses to get a games designer to sell out their series
oh
