alright, so "kotor 3 has been confirmed. i'm not going to provide any links or anything because i think, either you people are curious, or you're not... and will go to your friendly neighborhood search engine to see the hype for yourselves.
apparently this new installment is going to be a...wait for it... mmorpg.
so what do you think, i personally am unsure about it, and am not sure what to think... but my first two kotors have wanted a baby brother or sister for quite sometime...
the unfortunate thing is, if it's an mmorpg...which i'm certain it is... then i'm screwed, because it WILL be on pc... and i'm not a pc gamer... and if they put it on the 360 i'm also screwed because i can't go live. but i don't know, i'm still psyched about the force unleashed, so whatever.
let me know what you think

Here I was all set to let loose with a big squee! but me three with regards to the MMORPG aspect. All I can say is that, if it doesn't have a decent single player story, then I can walk away. I'm no Lucas fangirl, so the Star Wars universe does not appeal at all on its own.

Now, a Firefly or Jade Empire MMORPG, on the other hand...

Oh, nevermind - every recent article I could find was citing what appears to be the same guy "who has a friend at Pandemic" who also said Jade Empire 2 was coming.

These two sites seem to indeed confirm a new KotOR, but neither mentions anything about it being a MMORPG. The second one actually says that it might be something similiar to the first two games, but offers no further proof.

Kotor 3 being MMO is highly unlikely. Till now both former Installments have been Singleplayer only, being in my opinion the best Singleplayer Games (Storywise) in the Star Wars Universe. If Kotor3 comes i would however bet that not Bioware will do it, i instead hope Obsidian (the Guys that made the second) do it, since Bioware has been bought by EA, at least if i remember correctly, and with EA on their back..well, i wouldnt expect very much then even though i like Bioware Games usually. If there will be some form of Multiplayer it will be in the old-fashioned form probably, or something like a Coop Mode. However waiting for Kotor3 is like waiting for the Fallout MMO, if Interplay can do it fast enough to secure the rights that Bethesda now holds.

I really hope that KotOR 3 will NOT be a MMO. Besides there is already a 'Star Wars Online' MMO right?

If they offer Multiplayer it's ok... but please not a grindy MMO...

Some tweaks in the gameplay from the previous Kotors would also be nice...

I dunno, bobmaster... The dark side's pull can be strong. Made much money Blizzard has. Envy that can inspire, mmm?

Man, I will be really disappointed if that turns out to be the direction they go. Why mess with an obviously good system? Then again, I would like to see a KOTOR-esq game set instead in the 'current' time line WITHOUT the movie characters or ANY characters from books or other games thrown in.

You folks need to look closer, the article on Kotaku quotes them as the game "not" being an MMORPG, which means KOTOR 3 the RPG. CErtainly a far better result than yet another bad MMORPG.

THANK you, Hengst. It's a persistent rumor that there will be a KotOR MMO, but one which hasn't been supported by any facts, ever, unless you count the fact that people guessed at it being the topic of the unnamed MMO. Bioware's games in development(listed, check this out on their website) are Dragon Age, Unnamed next-gen project, LucasArts collaboration, and MMO. The MMO is NOT the same as the collaboration with LucasArts, and I rather hoped when that fact came out months back people would stop posting responses to threads consisting of "OH NOEZ TEH MMO I DURSN't LIEK THAM" or "W00t, KotOR MMO, I IZ JEDI NOAWZ". Admittedly, following the news on the subject is something of an obsession of mine, but it's fairly easy to discern between speculation on the topic before BioWare made the announcement of the LucasArts project and after.

As to your concerns, A-D, you're saying you'd rather the game be subject to a compressed dev cycle at the hand of LucasArts than EA? Because that's what happened with KotOR II and Team Gizka is STILL trying to pick up the pieces. At least EA would probably ensure most of the ending was in place, and is a large enough company to tell LA "no" when it comes to bringing things up short for christmas release.

EDIT: A followthrough on a link at the second source found this: http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=19574
So they're saying that what was believed to be confirmation is not in fact, so. This may however be simple "plausible deniability", as BioWare conducted the same strategy regarding involvement with LA for months before their announcement.

I have to agree with this statment... Really though who ever said that they ever wanted it to be a MMORPG??? As already mentioned they already did that it was Star War Galaxies! KoToR is a differnt style of game not made for MMO. Now they may make one, it may just be another Star Wars MMO and not a KoToR game at all.

I suggest that you look at Bio Ware and Lucas Arts website for real official info not some crazy person claiming that a game is confirmed but then tells you to google it... that is honest BS!

Come'on people cite your statments! I can't take any of these as facts unless you cite em! So here is what I am going to do cite my statment.

http://www.lucasartsbioware.com/

They still haven't said jack! They want to make KoToR3 they may do it they may do something else! All that is known is that Lucas Arts and BioWare are doing SOMETHING together.

I think these rumours started because lucasarts said that they will back a kotor 3, but they don't know when, and then in secret bioware were working on a mmorpg.

Personally i don't care much for mmo's, I dunno how galaxies work, but surely everyone wants to be a jedi... so surely only certain people could be force sensitive, but if thats true, who gets picked to be force sensitive? The people who write a Bio about how their father was the great revan?

As a single player game kotor and 2 were the best of the star wars games to date. As an mmo, it could very easily fall into the trap of being like every other mmo, but with deadly glowsticks.

^I'm a Galaxies player (not much, I often don't have time for it) and for a while the system for becoming a Jedi was incredibly arcane and difficult, it later became a series of high-end quests for an existing character. Then came the "NGE" revisions to the game, which made Jedi a starting class. MASSIVE outrage. Sobbing, gnashing of teeth, and as predicted, huge swing in numbers of Jedi on most servers. This was followed slowly by a shift back to numbers closer to pre-NGE. Why? Most people who play Galaxies either don't know any better or are that special kind of Star Wars fanatic and masochist who puts up with the game being more or less in constant beta for the privilege of flying Tie fighters(and other craft), decorating a house, and generally wandering about in a Star Wars milieu. Jedi quickly became a class for the former, and many powergamers switched to commando when little of the superiority of the Jedi remained. People who were in the game for the flavor simply kept on doing what they were doing, as bounty hunters, medics, spies, etc.

This doesn't sound very convicing.. I'm too skeptic these days. For the better. I pray Knights 3 is just like Knights 1. (When and IF it ever comes out).
