L4D: Why is Zoey a better character than Rochelle?

Err... well, I just find all the L4D characters more entertaining and interesting than the L4D2 ones. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the voices, maybe it's the one-liners, maybe it's because I've spent more time playing the original, or... maybe it's just because L4D came first.

I always try to play Zoey or Rochelle, though.

It was stated ahwile ago by someone who I am not quoting as I am sure he does not care for being quoted from a month ago (freaking necromancers), that because the orignal four characters were stereotypes, people tend to inject personality traits and quialities they didn't have, and as such, this is where alot of the 'had more voice lines', 'has a better personality' things come from.

Personally, I found Rochelle quite amusing, though my favourite was always Nick.

Zoey is pretty, has a very good voice actor and she's pretty much designed personality wise and aesthetically to be a geeks wet dream.

Rochelle on the other hand has many cringeworthy dialogue lines and I don't think her voice actor is amazing.

And before any jackass comes out with "Lol Zoey is just pixels loser, she can't be hot" if a girl who looked like that ever came up to you in real life would you say no?

It's because Zoey is white and most gamers are white. It doesn't necessarily make them racist, but scientific studies have demonstrated a racial bias even if it's unconscious, presumably because there's more to identify with on a superficial level.

Also, it could be because of those mods which take all of Zoey's clothes off.

Disclaimer: I don't have left4dead 1 so I can't confirm whether this is true... but it is because of #34.

I can relate to Zoey. Her being around my age and worrying about her plans for the future. Wasting time watching movies or games. She is the ideal girl for so many gamers. Where as Rochelle's a 30's journalist. With less back story. I can't relate to that.

You know, I think it has much more to do with the fact that Zoey is voiced by Jen Taylor, who also does the voice of Cortana in the original Halo series. And it is actually very noticeable once you know that.
Also because (correct me if I'm wrong) there's no L4D2 comic like there is for the original L4D (The Sacrifice), and the comic offers a lot more character development for the original survivors, Zoey included. Not that anyone seems to have read the comic...

I can't put my finger on why i 'prefer' Zoey. I get the feeling that Rochelle is the odd one out, from all the other survivors (including L4D1 cast). She just lacks something to connect with.
Her laugh annoys me enough to just play her; to stop someone else doing it xD

I like Zoey more that Rochelle, that's for sure. But I don't hate her, she's a decent character. But yeah, something about Zoey and her personality is just more fun.
I haven't heard Rochelle say" Look, Bill, it's your favorite: stairs!"

I dont like her voice, and she seems more like a zombie than a survivor, her laugh being close enough to the wail of a witch....

i personally like zoey better because she is obviously not taking the infected apocalypse well at all, but hides it behind cavalier jokes and a almost flippant way of speaking, but in fact, is so close to breaking. it makes her more sympathetic than rochelle, who i also like. rochelle is just plain sassy throughout the whole ordeal, which is cool too, but in a different way.

I dunno. I like Rochelle more than Zoey, to be honest, but then I hate Ellis who everybody seems to wank over for no good reason and my favourite character is Louis who people only like because of the PILLZ HERE thing.

I just find Rochelle annoying, and didn't really care for most of the characters in L4D2. I liked all of the ones in L4D, except Louis for two reasons:
1. His "everything is going to be ok" attitude got on my nerves.
2. He was a damn smoker magnet. I swear every time I was him, 3-4x as many smokers came after me than with any other character.
