Okay, so I have heard quite often from a lot of people that Rochelle is a plank of a character, and that she should be replaced with Zoey, because she is obviously a better character.
But is she?
Rochelle is meant to be a journalist I believe, but ignoring this bit of information, as a character she is, in fact, a *****. Though he's meant to be on occasion an irksome character, she's always telling Ellis to hush, and whenever Nick dies she says something along the lines of "well at least he's dressed for a funeral" (someone correct me on that because I'm certain that's not the exact words).
But just by her being a *****, she's got more depth than Zoey. The only thing I've seen people say about Zoey is that she's "a college student or something", and the only entertaining thing I've ever heard her say is "OH MY GOD! NOT BILL!", and besides that she appears personality-lite.
So why is it? Is it nostalgia? Or is it...(don't make me say it)
EDIT: I should point out that the last part wasn't supposed to imply it's because she's black, but in fact by popular opinion, less attractive on all accounts. So there.
To me.. All the new characters from l4d2 are unlikable... They just didn't have as much of an impact to me as the first batch did... Maybe it's because l4d1 takes place in Pennsylvania, and that I can relate to each character realistically in that aspect..
I just found the new batch of characters really dumb and annoying. I was thinking about l4d2 the other day, and I was shocked that even though I did play the game a lot when my friend told me she had purchased 4 games and 1 of them was for me, I could not remember a single characters name besides Nick. I feel that was due to the fact that no matter the scenario, I always got stuck playing him some how.
Fine by me though... I honestly thought he was the least annoying of the 4.
As for Rochelle vs Zoey.. I think it has to do with a lot of things...
Zoey is a unique name... The only time I've heard the name Zoey, was from Sesame Street. So that might have some impact right there, given a unique name.. People will want to remember it more.
Zoey was a college student. We all can relate to what a college student is, and Zoey played the part well.. You can sense that she is the youngest of the crowd in a lot of her quotes from the game. She just fit as a character and her back story matched her personality perfectly.
Rochelle on the other hand is a reporter? Hell I didn't even know that until I read it on here. I don't even recall her saying anything of the sort in game, but then again Zoey was never mentioned as a college student in game either..
Sad part is, I could tell Zoey had to be a college student.. Or at the most part a Senior in High School. Rochelle on the other hand, just seemed too random... I could picture the other 3 characters being friends after the Apocalypse, but not her... She didn't seem to fit in with the other three and it felt like she was just along for the ride until things blow over.
While on the other hand, Zoey got along with the other 3 characters... So that made her more likable because she seemed more approachable? Well.. As Approachable as a game character can get I guess..
Zoey just seemed like some one you could get along with in the end... Even when she was being a smart ass about something, you could tell she was being light-hearted about it. Rochelle on the other hand... Not so much...
