I've found myself quite addicted to TF2 as of late, and subsiquently I've often found myself as the only female on whatever server I reside. This results in a lot of teasing and trolling, both of which I expect going in.

What I wasn't quite prepared for was how many guys seriously seek relationships through such meetings. I mean really, I've played MMORPGs before and never have I come across so many desperate guys in my life. One guy said if ever I find myself in southern Pennsylvania I should look him up, just before signing off. And so many others have ended up moaning and groaning when I mention the TF2 hat my boyfriend gave me for my birthday (and the physical version he bought and packaged like a gift in the game).

So, fellow ladies, how often do you find this happening? Not being teased or trolled for being a female on the Internets, but being creeped and hit on, by completely straight-faced guys?

Being a man, I shall give a totally non-serious answer.

Every time they watch this advert!

Yeah, I still love that.

As a nerdy guy who doesn't hit on internet chicks (for the simple reason of the fact that it's not worth it, most of them live halfway across the world and those that don't wont be interested in meeting people on the interwebs) I will say that it's not easy to find gamer girls IRL, and might just be me but it's always been a bit of a fantasy of mine to date a chick who actually games.

Well, as a male, I can certainly defend the guys. I don't see what's so wrong with them looking for relationships online. They might just want to make a better attempt to get to know the girl before trying to start something.

Well I'm a guy and I get freak out by the sheer desire some players have for some random girl who just joined. I just don't get why my sex does this.

Not so much since I've begun dropping the fact that I have a girlfriend as soon as the conversation seems to be taking the route of "Hey want to go on a date?". I've also been steering clear of online games for some time now which no doubt helped the statistics out. But it was pretty regular back when I played Modern Warfare and Left 4 Dead.

Whilst I'm not a woman, I have seen people hit on women on MMORPG's. The guild I'm in WoW right now for example is like 50% females for some reason, and there are a shitload of creeps who constantly try and flirt with them. It's quite funny to watch admittedly, though I do feel sorry for the women. My friend (who's male) even pretends to be female because he gets so much free shit, he's been given gold, epics, crafting materials and so much more just for acting like an innocent, geeky girl.

But yeah, I'm not really surprised reading your post.

Now to some, it's arguable that I'm even considered a /guy/. But by the United States Gender-Standard (IE, the birth certificate) I suppose SEX: M means something or another.

However, that's beside the point.

Personally, I think the main thing about guys hitting on ladies over the internet (online games in particular) is the advantage of 'hiding' behind the text. See, you could put any voice, any face, and (almost) any personality behind the words that I have just typed. I could the man your man could smell like, or I could be the man who wants to smell like the man your man could smell like. That said, a lot of guys like the idea of the ladies on the internet not being able to see what they look like, but who they are.

Then there's the douchebags who can't keep it in their pants. 'nuff said.

Lastly, finding ladies to 'be' with over internet games has a secondary advantage. We've already got that much in common. Not even counting the amount of dudes who have the same romantic hero dream*, but the idea that there's one less barrier between what each person is like.

Just a city bo--err..wait, wrong one.

It's the nervous boy on the internet who finds a girl that's been through some storms. Through Emails and IM's, the two get closer and closer until they fall in lurrrrve. People actually believe stuff like this

So I hate to say it ladies, but it doesn't stop, nor does it get better. I apologize on my gender's behalf for any trouble you encounter.

Who would be dumb enough to actually do that? I understand there are immature people in the world but for fucks sake I can't imagine someone who's older than 15 actually doing so. Is the entire world made of idiots?

*Insert obligatory comment about sandwiches*

Honestly, I don't get why you even put a headset on in these games if it's that much of a distraction for you. The only time I'd wear a headset is if I'm playing with friends, and I'd assume most of those already know you're a girl.

Why would I want to talk to random ppl on XBL? I don't need my IQ to drop 50 points cause I feel like bashing myself in the face with a hammer. Also, in public games it's not like people talk strategy over them. I really feel the only people that wear headsets in public games are people that like to hear themselves talk.

Hahahahaha! I hope your friend doesn't do that in real life. Though that is pretty clever.

On Topic. Is it just me or have only guys posted here when it's really ment for the ladys?
Also, I'm male, and I don't hit on girls online.

:) I'm a gentleman. :p

That statement should really be on a T-shirt.

I've been hit on by females online. It was a traumatic experience. It made me resolved to not even ask if someone was a female in the future. Though it should be noted it wasn't as traumatic as being hit on by my fellow male gamers online.

:) Yes. Idiots aways die first, so they go into the grownd first, and are broken down into soil. The whole world is literally made of idiots. :p Ha ha!

I have had a couple guys hit on me...
yeah so anti-climatic.
I don't see it as a bad thing. but considering I am taken disappoints them or ask if I am not happy in my relationship.

Hardly ever, most people think I'm a dude and that's fine by me. :p I spent half a year in a WoW guild before speaking on ventrilo and people were genuinely surprised.

I don't play any games with voice interaction though at the moment.
