What WWI games have you played?r3lix said:I have had enough of WWI AND WWII.
Okay, you got me. None, but just the idea of that period is boring me so much.Fat Man Spoon said:What WWI games have you played?r3lix said:I have had enough of WWI AND WWII.
Aha! Anyway, I too am sick of WWII games, unless they are well done.r3lix said:Okay, you got me. None, but just the idea of that period is boring me so much.Fat Man Spoon said:What WWI games have you played?r3lix said:I have had enough of WWI AND WWII.
Well yeah, I mean with all the trenches it would be like a remake of duck hunt. Except the ducks shoot back, and are German.r3lix said:Okay, you got me. I respect that you didn't like the Halo story but seriously the overall expanding universe is very well imagined and the games themselves have a few literary, historical and somewhat religious undertones to them. It isn't very noticeable, they don't really shove it in your face but there are descent levels of depth anyway. Especially present in Halo 1 and 2, Halo 1 set the scene for what can be expected of an action game story elements and pushed it a step further with a few twists and turns. Halo 2 however is a better example for it's shift in perspective to the Covenant side in the form of the character 'the Arbiter' who is a character with a past and confusion about his loyalties and motivations as civil war and political backstabbing make their respective appearances (as does the idea of religion in general and it's effect on the world) that then lead to him defecting to the human side along with all of his people as his sort of 'followers'. There is a great moment of contrast between the Arbiter of the Elites and the Cheiftan of the Brutes where the truth is revealed about the true nature of the Halo rings and what they would really do and the Arbiter while dismayed accepts it as the truth but the Cheiftan refuses to accept it and tries to activate it anyway. I thought that was an interesting take on it is all.Hardcore_gamer said:What is Halo doing on that list? The story is crap.Vrex360 said:Certianly not on the same par as say Halo, Bioshock or Mass Effect.
If you are interested by the story then i suggest you pick up the halo books, they fill in some plot holes, like how they found earth and such as well as adding more depth to the universe. Pretty decent reads if your into that sort of thing.Hardcore_gamer said:I love Sci Fi and i actually loved Halo 1 at the time (Halo 2 and 3 are just run of the mill i think).Vrex360 said:But as I said if you dislike Halo's story just because Sci Fi action isn't your thing then I can respect that. But not so much just labelling it 'crap' and moving on.
But the story in Halo 2 and 3 still felt shallow and confusing. I have played Halo 1, 2 and 3 from start to finish and i have even played Halo 1 like 2 or 3 times. But i STILL don't get it what happened at the end of Halo 3.
So i killed that giant tentacle monster thing, but how does that explain why the rings were there? Why did the war end just because i killed the monster? What happened to the covenent? Why does Cortana keeð sending me these visions? How did the covenent find earth in Halo 2?
The story has so many plot holes that the story only feels like a setting/a place where the story takes place rather then a actual storyline that progresses in a interesting way.
You shouldn't be forced to buy books or movies to get the whole story from a game. It doesn't make the plot of the game any better.TunaKing said:If you are interested by the story then i suggest you pick up the halo books, they fill in some plot holes, like how they found earth and such as well as adding more depth to the universe. I hate that argument, You're not being "forced" to buy anything, But if you want all the information to make an educated standpoint then you may have to buy/borrow the books, or at the bare minimum Wiki it.squid5580 said:You shouldn't be forced to buy books or movies to get the whole story from a game. Why would you hate that arguement? Would you like it better if one said that it is a rip off since they obviously slacked on the game to be able to sell you this crap later on? Or is it you can't say the game's story is good because you need all the other mediums to make the story good that you hate?Insanum said:I hate that argument, You're not being "forced" to buy anything, But if you want all the information to make an educated standpoint then you may have to buy/borrow the books, or at the bare minimum Wiki it.squid5580 said:You shouldn't be forced to buy books or movies to get the whole story from a game. But the business models & plans have nothing to do with the story. You cant watch one star wars film then right the whole thing off as crap because your not willing to watch the rest.squid5580 said:Why would you hate that arguement? Sure I can. If the first one doesn't entertain me then why would I risk my money on the sequels? Although I fail to see what that has to do with the price of tomatoes. At least with the Star Wars trilogy it remained in one medium. If I wanted to know more of the universe there are other mediums out there that I could enjoy. The difference is I don't need to research the plot of Star Wars through books, wiki pages and whatever else. I can sit down watch an entire story which may or may not end with a cliffhanger and if I want to know what happens next I can watch the sequel. I find it absolutely ridiculous you are defending this. No other medium gets a free pass. Oh yeah if you want to know about all the plotholes in the movie buy the book. And you aren't going to be at the ticket stand demanding your money back? Let switch this up buy a half finished novel then go see the movie to fill in the blanks. We want vidoe games to be held to the same standards as movies or TV then we should hold video games to the same standards as movies or TV. None of this "well it is ok because it is a game" excuses.Insanum said:But the business models & plans have nothing to do with the story.
