Seriously 2.0 from Gears 2. Get 100,000 kills! In the words of Yahtzee, this can fuck right off.

Demon's Souls ... don't kill the maiden while she lulls the big world eater thing to sleep ... I gave up half a million souls just to get the good ending? ... Oh well, wasn't like I was going to go through it all again anyways. I HATE the flying stingray things in the storm level.

So I got Shadows of the Damned, stick the game in the PS3, boot it up, press start when prompted and was given a trophy for this incredibly taxing bit of gaming.
There's an even worse one in flOw. You don't even have to press start. Just boot the game and once it's loaded, instant trophy. It's called "Adventure", if anyone wanted to know for the next time someone asked what the lamest achievement in the universe is.

There are three achievements in Fight Night Round 4 for reaching the highest rank on the leaderboard for the specific weight class of your fighter. So, technically, the game expects you to beat one of the three current best players of the game to get this achievement. Good luck, achievement junkies!

Also, not necessarily as irritating, but somewhat perplexing, Skate 3 has an achievement called "It takes a really big village..." which requires the online community to reach a certain target on their progress. Not difficult, but it basically handed out a free 50-point achievement to me when I started the game up for the first time six months after its release, so the idea of mutual cooperation of all who puchased the game was lost on me.

In Assassin's Creed 2 you get 3 achievements in the first ten minutes of game-play. these ten minutes are all completely linear by the way. soo... three achievements where one would have been too many.

The dumbest are usually crazy unreachable feats like Fight Night Round 4's belt trophies. No skill involved at all, you just need an incredible amount of luck. Also, grinding trophies which require you to do the same thing for loads of hours like get 1,000 kills or something. They really prove nothing other then A. You have alot of luck B. You have persistency to grind the same thing.

Mirror's Edge - Test of Faith. Complete the game without shooting an enemy. Good luck with that one guys!
You know what getting that would be called? An achievement. That is exactly the kind of achievements that are good. Not crazy hard, doesn't require 1000 hours of grind, just makes you play the game in a way you wouldn't have otherwise.

OT Anything to do with online leaderboards, get the game a year after release? Forget it. Complete tutorials, especially in games like Guitar Hero. Where if you've played it before you have absolutely no need to complete them, but they want you to anyway... Why?

Yeah the only way to kill them is with a bow and even then you have to tediously wait for them to get in range.. so boring.

Any achievement that comes merely from completing a level, regardless of difficulty, makes me roll my eyes.

I actually don't mind these. I think all games should have a few "default" trophies that you just get for progressing through the game.

Of course they should only be a fairly small proportion of the total.

Having one achievement for every single level would be crazy though.

There's one in Eat Lead just for starting the game up for the first time. And pressing start. And watching the credits. Aaaand completing the mandatory tutorial.

... >_< *Sigh*

Consolation prize, Team Fortress 2. The real achievement is seeing how long you can go without getting it.
You get it for being backstabbed 50 times. I'm about halfway there.

So all the achievements for King Kong and Terminator Salvation, which I admit, I bought simply to whore gamerscore with, and to be honest neither was a terrible game and I only paid like £5 each for them

PORTAL 2: Pit Boss: Show the pits who's boss. Basically, you have to jump to your death at one point in the game.
I actually like that achievement, gave me a little laugh when I did it (I listened to the robot).

Soul Caibur 4 has one for making it past the title screen.
With that achievement you still have to watch the opening cutscene to get it.

OT: While I haven't gotten this one, Bulletwitch gives you an achievement for finishing the game on the hardest difficulty (which i heard is quite hard). But whats the catch?

It only gives you 1 Gamerscore for getting it.

there is a slew of WoW achievements that are just stupid. Like grinding a faction reputation to exalted that requires you to literally kill thousands upon thousands of low level dudes out on a stretch of beach somewhere.

not to mention the ones you get for logging in during a certain day, like when WoW was 5 years old. Sure give people a gift but to call it an "achievement" is kind of lame
