My impression: they are trying to appeal to nerds. They assume that nerds like video games, nerdy toys (like the Rubik's cube), and are sexually frustrated. Mash these together, top with brand-of-choice, and serve advertising.

You might get a laugh out of a nerd for all of the obvious nods to nerd culture, but the old image of a nerd is a tired one and won't get respect from many people. I laughed at the Rubik's cube, but otherwise, it felt like a tired, old cliche. Kinda like Pringles.

EDIT: As for Cooking Mama, at least this is a joke many hardcore nerds could appreciate, but as a commercial, it totally loses the message.

First Lucozade, now Pringles. Have you no shame Laura? Or is grave robbing not paying as much as it used to do (I'd have thought She'd have lots of broken Gold she can flog to Cash for Gold, or whatever).

The fact that Lara Croft is in Silent Hill is itself a joke, but unless you're a gamer, it's pretty esoteric. Then she starts taking equipment off. Then she starts pulling things out of her pocket, things that would never have fit in a clip holster. Two of the things she pulls out are a Rubick's Cube and a tennis racket. At this point they've abandoned the original joke in favor of a totally out of place slapstick gag. Then Lara takes her shirt off and begins a slow, sultry advance toward the generic survival horror character. Between all that, I think it's safe to say that whoever wrote this commercial attempted to pander to too many demographics at once and ended up creating a schizophrenic trainwreck of a commercial. I say we kill him.

EDIT: Although I have a feeling they're going for the 'random' ad campaign. check out their website http://www.pringles.com and click the 'click here' bit follow it through. its actually quite funny
I had a lot of fun with that site...

OT: I'm not... uhm. It's like... Why Lara?... uhm... Lets just continue with more "Wwuuuh?"

Why? WHAT?
I don't understand. Why were Lara croft in Silen Hill and why did she have lots of junk that she dropped on the ground?

Now I like pringles....

but I also think there are some lines that should not be damn crossed. This one tripped past it and landed rough.

Sorry but what the fuck was that?

That has got to be the weirdest commercial I've ever seen. That has to be Japanese.
