So old Lara is getting a makeover courtesy of Squeenix:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2010/dec/07/tomb-raider-reboot

Seems like just what she needs. A new story and origin, much like Ubisoft attempted (badly, IMO) with the Prince.

Here's a look at her new image, which to me looks pretty cool apart from the fact that she appears to have been taking a dip in a septic tank:

I saw some concept art somewhere which was encouraging as she actually looked like a woman as opposed to a pogo stick with two water baloons stuck to it. Then again, this may not be what fans want from her.

What do you guys think? Is there life in the old girl yet? And is this new model to your, um... taste?

The PoP reboot was actually not that bad. Ubisoft just didn't market it to the right audience.

Anyway, more on topic. I say its about damn time. I could never take her seriously. The games seemed uninteresting and it seems the main selling point was sex-appeal. So I avoided them. Hopefully this can change my mind. It looks neat, but I have a small fear that they'll make her an american.

Ah well. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

They really do want to emphasize the fact that Lara can get dirty don't they? Either way, the 3D Lara Croft games weren't exactly good. The moment they departed from everything that was a staple of the series and went isometric an amazing game was created. Giving that this game is going to stick to the old formula my hopes aren't to high.

Whoa, for a second there I thought that was an actual live photo.

If the rest of the game looks that great then I'll maybe try it out.

'She' looks like a man.

"A new story and origin, much like Ubisoft attempted (badly, IMO) with the Prince."

Technically, it was set in a different universe and wasn't a reboot of the real Prince.

Gee, didn't they do the exact same thing 4 years ago with Tomb Raider Legend?

Also, it's not like the latest Tomb Raider have sucked, in fact I thought they were quite good in my opinion!

Doesn't matter to me what they do to her face. It's still a Tomb Raider game, and after Underworld, I'm not signing up for another one of those for quite some time.

There is help for Lara, nostalgia not withstanding. This looks like she might gain some relevance if for no other reason than that she finally looks less like a model than an actual hardworking archaeologist, kind of her finally getting her Indiana Jones cred on, if you will. Whatever game they make would still have to hold up to the promo, but, it's at least promising that she's less sex appeal and more adventure in the promo pic.

Meh.

This is a perfect example of Yahtzee's observation that in gaming today making a game look "gritty" pretty much involves presenting it like you've smeared feces on the lens of a camera.

Also, why does Laura's boobs keep getting smaller every release? Do they still believe that somehow the size of her boobs was anything but a lure for more sales? My prediction: In 2 more sequels Laura's strange reverse puberty will reach it's climax and she'll become a 12 year old boy.

And finally... Tomb Raider games stink. Hell, Batman: Arkham Asylum did Tomb Raider way better than Tomb Raider ever has if you catch my drift. In a way, yes, the series itself is seminal, but games that came after it like B:AA and Uncharted are just so flat out superior in game play that if they brought Tomb Raider up to those standards, it would almost seem like it was aping the former games instead of being the property that contributed to/inspired them.

Maybe now we may have a not shit Tomb Raider game. (Every tomb raider game has been dreadful)
We managed to get a not shit Lara Croft Game.
So anything must be possible!

Though in all honesty after uncharted came out. I think Lara has become horrible out dated
