I don't believe any messages to the past will succeed or have any impact on us now, primarily because it depends on a predetermined future and between entropy and chaos theory I don't believe there is a predetermined future. Of course that's my opinion and I don't have the scientific backing in theoretical physics to make any substantial claims to this effect, so it could be possible the future is predetermined or that there are infinite futures endlessly branching off from one another or anything in between. Of course I'm biased too, I would very much like to have control over my future.

Any messages of substance immediately contradict their purpose in sending anyway. Say you sent a message with all the outcomes of the research from the LHC experiments back to yourself before you began (most people should know where this is going), because this now means you no longer run the experiments, the results are never formulated and you never send them to yourself. So nothing would happen.

What if this is what Ghost are. We actually learned how to send things in the past in the future, so people are playing jokes on us by pretending to be "ghost".

I dont believe that time machines exist, why didnt anyone from the future came back ang gave us a time machine? It would make every thing much more easy. They come to the past with future technology and then go back to their future, their future will be more developed since time went by with the technology that they provided us with.

The only way backwards time-travel could work without any paradoxes is if you actually travelled to an alternate dimension. Travelling back to where you came from would just bring you right back to where you started.

The other dimension will know what it was like to not have Hitler or Stalin, but yours will still have that piece of history and will never, ever go away.

Though I also read once that Stephen Hawking believes that there are mini worm-holes all throughout the universe. They're not big enough for anything more than maybe one atom to travel through though. Though Hawking also points out that if it were possible to expand them, we might be able to have instant-travel systems in the future.

Farewell causality, we hardly knew ye.

Seriously, I can't even begin to wrap my head around the implications this might have.

Part of me doesn't like the sound of this. Personally I'd rather leave time travel to The Doctor.

At least we're not gonna send anyone through it to mess up history.

sending anything can get the same result ....
if i send a message to say 1937 and tell them .. kill this Hitler fellow , hes a douche in the making. the entire earth will change.

time travel is just a big ass paradox , also if this is a potential time machine in Theory the fact that we have no messages from the future at this very moment proves we dont invent a time machine ever...
Nooo... that function has not been turned on. The singlet has not yet been found, and the machine has not been calibrated to send or receive them as messages. Until that happens we WON'T receive messages. We'll know whether it works or not the instant we turn it on, because messages from the future should arrive immediately.

Well, who's up for destroying the LHC? I just know some asshole will stop WW2 with this. Thing is, if WW2 never happened, I wouldn't have been born. It may sound selfish, but I like existing.

...As fun as time travel is I'm pretty sure I'd fuck the world up...But at least we're one step closer to seeing if Jesus really did miracles or was just a bitching carpenter.

" Dear resident of 2011.

My name is Ubuntu Viagra Jones and I am the exiled prince of the United African Kingdom. My father, King Hardee Brawndo Jones saw fit to disown me over a disagreement on the woman I chose to marry. He stripped me of my birthright and locked me away from my inheritence. However before my exile I was able to hide a secret account from the kingdoms coffers worth roughly 3 trillion dollars. Here in the year 2111 that is a sizable sum, but I am certain in your time that is a vast sum of money.

Being exiled I cannot claim this money for myself, however you being of a different time line would have no difficulty in claiming this on my behalf. What I propose is for you to claim the funds by providing the bank a credit card for validation of active account status. Once that is completed the funds will be transfered into a secondary account that I can access and to reward you for your troubles I will distrubute half of the 3 trillion dollars back to you in your timeline. If we work together we can both stand to make a serious profit from a transaction that will only take seconds.

To process the transaction I will need you to submit your card info to me in order to begin the transaction. Please provide your card number, social security number for account verification and your home address in order to have your check mailed to you.

Thank you for listening to my story, and I look forward to a very lucrative partnership between us."

If it were possible when messages would have been sent to us.
Unless we're like the leading universe or something?

Time travel will forever be impossible.
1. If you send a message into the past E.g. "Dont Burn the fossil fuels" The people in the past will go. Oh ok! lets listen to them. and never do it. But if they never do it that means there would be no point in sending the message there for the message will never be sent. AND it would only be possible to send the messages to the EXACT second the time machine was turned on. otherwise there would be no wormhole for the time message to travel to.
So say if your family member dies in a accident. you invent a time portal per say. you could never go back to save them because the time stream would only allow you to go back to the moment it was turned on. so IF we ever make one then the future messages will arrive. We will look at them. and wont be able to. it would be best for the world if this Tech was never invented. =/

Well, if we did get a time machine working in the future:
*We would've encountered someone from that period already
*The machine creates another dimension seperate of ours, thus we would never know.
*When they do discover it, the planet is so balanced and in order that nobody would want to come back here.
*The world ends before we can make one (I'm not saying 2012 is right, the world could end at any time, 2 seconds or 2 millinea. We'll never know...)

Time travel will never happen. Humanity has gotten to the point where it's made so many advancements that it truely believes that anything is possible, sometimes though there is no solution. For instance on a similar note people believe that we will eventually be able to travel through space, just because we made it to the moon does not mean we can travel any further. I'm not saying that we shouldn't try to innovate, but acting as if anything is possible is a sure fire way to get yourself dissapointed. P.S can someone please tell me what the act (or attempt) of turning lead into gold is called, i'm sure its one word but i cant remember it. Thanks.

Because this thing is going to be turned on in the future, ergo we're currently in it's past and we haven't had any messages yet.

If we ever invent time travel, we'd know before we'd invent it. Cause we'd go back in time.
All in all, the big question remains, where the hell did the Song of Storms came from?!
Quote of Stephen Hawking:

Reasons there are not thousand of time travellers here telling us about this amazing thing called "time travel" that is invented in the future:

* Time travel back in time isn't possible.
* Time travelers are here.
* They haven't gotten this far back yet.
* They open a new dimension and don't appear in ours.
* They died before inventing time travel.

That would mean the computer and email dont exist because you cant send an email to someone in the past who doesnt own a computer.
