DRM shouldn't target those that paid for the games. Yet, it's always them who suffer the most, while the pirates WILL sooner or later bypass this 'protection'.cobrausn said:
I've never understood console modding. It seems like an inordinate amount of work for not a lot of payoff. I get that gaming can get expensive, but isn't it cheaper to just gamefly things? It seems like the amount of work and upkeep needed to work modded consoles today could be spent actually having a job and doing it the legit way, and on that side of things, you can actually use the full range of features.
Its pretty much a given that if a company knows about a piracy exploit, its next update will be one that gets rid of that exploit.
I'm pretty sure it's already been cracked. My buddy is on Live, and he's already playing Black Ops (not live) and Fable 3 (live). He also has the latest firmware.
Although I don't pirate games myself, I am not at all opposed to it. The only reason I don't pirate games, is because I play games for the long-haul, and they are the only games I buy, so I don't need a big budget for that. If I enjoyed more genres than I do, or if the need arises ($100+ for a game), then I am definitely cracking my box open and "fixing" it. If you enjoy playing everything, then I absolutely think you should not have to pay $70-$80 for pieces of garbage like Force Unleashed 2 or Shattered Dimensions (just to name some recent ones).

So, uh, no one sees anything wrong with the disturbing number of people on this thread who are referring to pirates as dirty, worthless human beings and wishing physical violence on them?

But as someone who spends his days working in this industry, I sympathize more with said industry than a bunch of little pricks who feel entitled to something me or someone just like me worked on for years... for free. I personally would be willing to accept some DRM just so asshats like that get shafted, even if it is usually only a temporary shafting.
But what I'm willing to accept isn't necessarily a good indication of what should happen. A customer expects, when they buy a game, to be able to play it. If your system prevents them from doing that, it's a bad system and needs reworking.
