Really? Okay then... guess you have to read the books to see what an annoying piece of f#$k she was.

Anyway, I really thought about it, and I don't think there really is an excellent support character. I mean for a support character to even be considered good, is them not to jump in front of your bullets and act like it's all your fault *cough Medal of Honor*

I would really say the Fire Emblem characters, but they aren't technically support since you are controlling them. I loved most of their personalities, it was amazing at how such a simplistic game had so much character depth.

I did like the AI ally in Red Alert 3 campaign though, Zhana was smoking.

Elika in PoP was extremely useful I have to admit, but her personality kind of ruined her company. I didn't feel guilty for overworking the *****. She must

GoW has pretty decent support characters, they had decent personalities like BF: Bad company, but unlike bad company they weren't completely f***ing useless on the battlefield. Plus Cole is a classic. GoW didn't make you feel like you were fighting the war alone.

But if I had to choose, and i think many would agree with me here, the animal characters are normally the best support and 'friend' a gamer can have. They are loyal, they don't annoy you with witless quips and they don't take the fun away. They are necessary to the experience and never get in the way of it. Plus any mishaps are forgivable because they ARE an animal afetr all. Except for Chip from Sonic. God I hate him....

But really my choices if i had to choose, it'd be Agro from Shadow of Colossus. I never felt more attached to a virtual animal.

The green side characters from fire emblem ussually get when they should either get the hell out of my way or act as cannon fodder.
Issun from Okami was great since he ussually tried to get in some chicks kimono..
Top prize goes to the side characters from Mass Effect, they really proved helpfull in some of the clusterfuck moments.

Where are Agro and Ramundo (Shadow of the Colossus and Beyond Good and Evil, respectively)?

Seriously, Agro. Can you imagine him not being there?

Also, Kazooie from the Banjo series and Lin from BoF: Dragon Quarter weren't bad supporting characters at all. Lin was extremely useful, and Kazooie was just fun to listen to.

Not to sound incredibly retro, but Tails in the original Sega Sonic the Hedgehog console games is incredibly useful... He's a sidekick you actually have to use and he's incredibly easy to play so console-challenged friends can play Sonic from start to finish...

And yes, I'm a retro Sonic fan...

I have to agree with podafoo. All the support characters on GoW2 are amazing compared to any other game.

"Statement: Love is making a shot to the knees of a running target 100 meters away using an Aratech Sniper Rifle with (word I can't remember) scope."

Anyway, I liked Elika in the new PoP.

Sorry but I have to correct the HK-47 quote

"Definition: Love is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope... Love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticule, and together, achieving a singular purpose against statistically long odds."

Yes I do actually have that memorized, sad I know.

Oh for my support character I think I am going to have to say Delta 62, oh how I love Scorch, he is my favorite of Delta team, and would have been sad if it would have been him left behind in the end of Republic Commando rather than Sev.

I have to agree with Mike from RE4.

And then there is the one Rocket Launcher ODST from Halo 3 on the mongoose, who I affectionately dubbed Mike.
Yeah, I knew I got the quote wrong, but I got close. I gotta agree on Scorch, but I prefer Sev. And yes, I liked that ODST as well.

The AIs from COD4 were fantastic. I know what Yahtzee has said of them, but they are extremely helpful in picking off waves of bad guys and never got on my nerves.
The cod 4 AI is good and yes they are sometimes pretty helpful. But if your playing a high difficulty level, it will always ALWAYS be up to you to push forward.
At those higher difficulties, all the AI becomes is a target dummy to draw fire away from you and occasionally throw back grenades.
I think it depends if your SAS or Marines; put simply the marines are cannon fodder and the SAS are terminators.

the best support character... hmmmm... my mind seems to drift towards the one that dies the sortest time into a game so they get out of your way, but if not does the mini nuke launcher (fat man if your outside japan) in fallout 3 classify as a support character

edit- i just remembered kayne and lynch (im not sure which one is the support character but they are both good even if the ending was crap)

]Alxy Vance is pretty good when she's with you in the Half-Life 2 series.
True, but her zombine joke ruins things somewhat.

My favorite support character has to be Waka from Okami. He's just that awesome in a quirky way. Him or Auron.
Final Fantasy 10?
Who else? No one else is awesome enough to have glasses, a huge frickin' sword, and sake.
Okami?

The Dog from Fable 2 and Dogmeat from Fallout 3. Canines are the best companions, they don't eat much and the best part is they can't talk! : D

The best support characters i have encountered are those from Left 4 Dead.
Very very rarely have they run in my way and i have never been shot by them.
Although on one occasion Louis shot a witch for no reason and for me, they never ever pick up molotovs or pipe bombs.

(Possible grammar mistakes)
Their AI prevents them from shooting you. You have to activates cheats and enter a code in the console to allow them to shoot you.

Ebony and Ivory from Devil May Cry

I liked Alyx Vance: tough enough not to be a liability, capable enough to help out, and has a good voice actor, so I'm not deafened. Also, easy on the eyes.

I liked the AI's in Left 4 Dead more though. Alyx was a helping hand, but you NEEDED the other AI's in Left 4 Dead. They're better than a lot of people are, although every once in a while they do inexplicably dumb things (like not picking up a first aid kit...). I found myself actually thanking them out loud when they picked off a hunter within a second of him pouncing.

Say, those AI's are both by Valve... and in both games they managed to make decent looking female characters that:
- Aren't pointlessly oversexualized
- Aren't brainless 'action girl' or 'damsel in distress' sterotypes
- Fit into the story without being fanservice.

If you don't know what Okami is, I request that you either rent/buy it or die in a fire.

You misquoted someone, quoting them for my text.

I don't see what you don't like Cortana. I have read the books, and still don't find her to be annoying (Outside of those "LET ME BREAK YOUR FLOW" moments in H3, though those had some nice content to them.
