Prince of Persia, there had to be a better way to tie in a sequel, hello, Farah!!
Final Fantasy VIII -[Spoiler Alert] Rinoa should have been alone on that balcony, that would have been a better ending.
Or having Squall push her off it. ^.^

GoW 2, that last boss was just a cutscene where you held down the trigger, rather lame compared to RAAM
?????????????????????????

The last boss fight was a multi section epic scrap with zeus! That whoops Raam into oblivion!

Hmm, Raam in Oblivion now that would be interesting...

Star Ocean 3. I actually liked the story, but the ending was kinda... lame. Maybe it is because I got the alone ending but I am not up for geting spanked with moon rocks by random encounters again to find out otherwise.

Simon the Sorcerer II... a "to be continued" ending that never was.
It was in Simon the Sorcerer 3D. Which was a good game made bad by horendus glitches and a to be continued at the end of that game lol.

Mmm, another kind of ending that's annoying. A TBC ending to a game that never gets a sequel.

MassEffect, Fallout3, Fable2, GearsOfWar2, Halo2, GodOfWar2, the list goes On...
(Save MassEffect: None Of These GAmes Know What a Good Last Boss Is Goddammit)
Mass Effect? Are you serious!? Personally, I thought the ending to Mass Effect was great. Actually managed to perfectly balance offering a suitably dramatic and complete ending and leaving the path open for a sequel.
In total agreement...
although it would have been nice to get more than a smile from your love interest after coming back from the freaking dead... *huff*

As for worst: KotOR II hands down. The fact that the game starts out so brilliantly written, dark and multilayered only makes the lame, cop-out suck of an ending that much more rageworthy.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem had a pretty lame ending. The whole game follows H.P. Lovecraft's premise that mankind is very insignificant in the universe, that we are merely ants at Cthulhu's picnic. Then after a boss battle with the Ancient's pawn, and then the player is forced to change a symbol in a spell to save the world. And no matter how many times I intentionally picked the wrong symbol it wouldn't give me a bad ending.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Eternal Darkness. Maybe it's just me, but it just seemed so out of place.

Assassin's creed had you walk around an empty room until you decided to quit the game

Resident Evil Four

Knights of the Old Republic 2

Any game with a cliffhanger that sets up for a sequel, that is the biggest middle finger a game developer can give to a player.

I agree except that you're wrong in saying it even had an ending. It didn't have an ending. It just ended.
Game: *Final Boss*
Sweep: *Beats Boss*
Game: "Oh, you beat the boss? Okay then." *Rolls Credits*
Sweep: "WTF?"

Yes... I'm still bitter.

No, no...you forgot *dead boss gives you half-assed prophesies for all your companions who had - until 2/3 of the way through the game - been exceptional multi-faceted personalities*

*Drowns bitterness in sea of tequila and Sith Lords fanfic*

Ah, yes yes. Thank you. Thank you for remind me of that. I had blocked it from memory and was enjoying a semi-normal life. Sigh... Back to the agony again...

Fallout 3 had a pretty bad one.
Fawks: "I wont deprive you of your destiny LOL"

The first time i beat Max Payne 1 back in the day for a minute I thought the final boss was SUPPOSED to kill you because there was a cinematic if it did so for a week i was like WTF until someone told me it wasn't the ending and I went back and killed the helicopter and got the real ending.

Supreme Commander did that too. Twice. The main game sets up the stage for the addon...and the addon too ends with a god damned cliffhanger. I mean come on. At least in the friggin' sequel, give us a proper ending.
