Fitting 7 DVDs worth of stuff may be a challenge, even with compressing audio and video. But then, I would have no idea.
Maybe if they cut the ridiculous amount of redundant and overused explanatory cutscenes...

Oh wait, I forgot that's like asking for a game rather than the movie MGS 4 is.

I like the fact that Hideo doesnt want to create a 360 port.
The playstation gave the MGS series its much needed break.
Anyone who played the ORIGINAL MGS, SNES style, will know that they weren't as popular as they are since the PS1 outing.

MGS was a PlayStation game not an SNES game....

I'd risk a statement that the MGS3 on a PC would be the historical system seller.

And there wasn't a single Metal Gear game on the SNES either.

Maybe a port is not worth it? I don't think it would sell too well, not because of this or that limitation but because of the target audience. Yeah, a whole bunch of people is crying for a port, but how many are actually going to buy a copy in the end? Even if it was ten times the amount of people who bought MGS2 on the first Xbox, it would probably not be worth while. Somehow, I feel like fanboys cry for a port just so the evil PS3 will lose it's great exclusive.

That's my guess, at least. Really, I can't think of any other (valid) reason than money.

"it's not about the hardware"-Hideo kojima

If it isn't about the hardware, then why is it a PS3 exclusive? I would buy the game, but i'm not about to buy another system just because it has an exclusive game, although I do hope that they port it to any other system(except the Wii) eventualy.

My bad, MG as in Metal Gear was a SNES game, MGSolid was the PS1 release.
But my point was that Metal Gear was on platforms way before the playstation but they saw little success.

Wrong again buddy.

The original Metal Gear is an NES game.

If I were making video games, I would definately want to make a totally cross platform game.. I mean, not everyone can afford to buy a PS3 just to play MGS4. If you want to maximise your profits, you get your product out to as many people as you can!

Its about the game - the hardware is the only thing capable of playing the game in question.
I was talking about the PC too, I probably should have been a bit more clear.

He wasn't thinking of maximising profits, he was thinking of making the best game he could.
Then maybe he should have made an excellent game, and not a movie interspersed with gaming moments and hard drive installations.

Why did you necro this thread?
So he could bash a game he's not able to play to minimize the emptiness it makes him feel.
1. What is necro?

2. After looking at the cutscene/gameplay videos on youtube, I've pretty much decided I have no interest in playing it.

3. I was pointing out that the reason it would need to be on 7 DVD's is because of all the pre-rendered unnecessary cutscenes.

4. I was being cynical about it because I knew whatever I said about the cutscenes, MGSfanboys would just cry blue murder at me for daring to suggest there is too much exposition and too many breaks in the gameflow for the "superior" version I've seen it declared.

5. I have actually played an MGS game, and frankly, its way, way, way too heavy on the cutscenes. Out of the 5 hours I tried it, 3 were of exposition cutscenes, 1 of 'story' cutscenes. From all counts of MGS 4, its even more cutscene heavy.
