Awesome. I might play this game, just to build a massive, iron-fisted dictatorship that enslaves 12-year-olds as a means of national income.
May i please join your crew, sir?

You may, as long as you follow the 3 rules of the dictatorship:
1.) All manual labor is performed by those under 12
2.) All non-manual labor is performed by those under 12
and most importantly, rule number 3:
3.) All labor, whether it be manual or non-manual, is performed by those under 12.

What happens on their thirteenth birthday?

Anyways, I heard that if you pre-order the game, you get a free minifigure, and an in-game render of it. It's an orange astronaut, with a special logo on it. If someone gets it, please name their character "Grif" for me.

But doesn't all labor have to done by those under twelve years old?

To be fair, one need no more than 14 polygons to get the idea of a lego brick across. You can add more to ensure the locking nubs up top truly appear to be round to the human eye of course. Really, I'd say this is less a knock on the low tech nature of WoW than it is a knock on a lack of design sensibilities in the Lego team. If you can express the idea with 20,000 polygons without significantly altering the artist's vision, I hardly think adding another 20,000 polygons will dramatically alter the balance.

EDIT: To clarify, 14 polygons is sufficient to render seven rectangular prisms. If you wanted to render the bottom as well, the number of polygons increases to 46 if my memory of what the bottom of a lego is correct. As you approach round on the locking nubs, the polygon count increased dramatically.

The reasoning is that curved surfaces like the lego-mans head will need to have a lot of polygons in order to appear smooth. This doesn't really mean it's more difficult to create. Hell I could whip up a sphere with a million polygons in it in about 30 seconds.

Unlike WoW you can actually reuse the lego figures almost 100% of the time, except for the textures.
Untrue, the disk makes an excellent coaster and having played it is a brilliant conversation starter with people you used to know -

"Hey, remember when we were social retards and played WoW?"

Here's a question - if you can cram all that graphical quality into modelling Lego, why doesn't Blizzard up its game with WoW models? Oh, that's right... you don't see coke dealers improving their grade to keep the punters hooked.

I'll be your henchman.
And also I bet this game will make my PC catch fire.

What? No, not the MMO, the massive polygon count for a friggin' Lego brick. Although actually the MMO's a bit pointless as well, at least while Blockland and Minecraft are on the market.

Newer technology, it doesn't surprise me as WoW is hardly a new game.

That said, one of the problems with claims like this is that there is no way of knowing if they are programming efficiently, or complicating things needlessly so they can play with new technology.

In my experience it seems a lot of coders will do things like see how many polygons they can fit into something relatively simple, for their own amusement, rather than taking the most efficient path. I also think this is why you see games with huge development budgets that wind up looking and playing like dog turds (not saying that this will nessicarly be the case with Lego). They get overcomplicated to do simple things, release time comes around, and the stuff just doesn't work right, or winds up taking up far more in the way of system resources than it rightfully should.

Polycount is not equivalent to modeling skill. It takes a lot more skill to make something that still looks nice with a very low poly count. Blizzard are incredibly good at this, a lot of it is down to their texturing and art style and say what you will about WoW; it still looks nice today despite being 6 years old and able to run on absolutely ancient hardware. I wouldn't say the same about this new lego game, to be honest.

oh good; everything has to be perfectly rounded...
you know it probably isn't the quite the same thing, but generally the one thing my graphics card has trouble with is anti-aliasing...

when polygon counts are more important than gameplay, I'll consider looking into this one.
this man is right, is crysis a better fps than say half-life? i think not, even though it's not as pretty etc, it's still recieved as a better game, i know crysis was limited to pc etc
