See, this just sounds to me like they have completely the wrong idea of what makes a good game. Only have to look as far as Minecraft to see that people don't need astronomical polygon counts, when they get to let their creativity run free.

I have no doubt that the development team on this game is painfully aware what a waste of resources this is. well, they might not be, but it doesn't matter, because it's not their choice. You want the right to use lego's name and reputation, you gotta play by their rules, and anybody who renders a Lego Brick, in such a way that the sides that make up the round edges are even remotely perceptiple, will get sued into the stone age. Seriously, Lego has unreasonably high standards, i'm sure the pixellation of the graphics will decrease the perfect roundness of the studs more than the polygonization will.

Wait there is gonna be a Lego MMO? That's awesome!!!
Its coming out really soon too. I think like October 26 or something for america, which I believe is the later of the two.

Its called Lego Universe, and it looks AMAZING.

Bull.Shit. I reckon I could count the number of edges on a Lego block. Have fun counting the edges on a ridiculous tier 3482434 set of armor.

To get rid of that takes polygons, which means that a 2x8 Lego brick just might be more complicated to render than a hero that has the ability to slay the most terrible evils in the universe.
Well to be fair a hero and 9-39 of his friends/business partners.

WoW system requirements:
- Intel Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+
- ATI Radeon 7200 or NVIDIA GeForce 2 class card or better

Lego Universe system requirements:
- Pentium 4 3.0GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+
- ATI Graphics Card Radeon X600 Series or Nvidia Graphics Card GeForce 6600

Given the Lego site's stated emphasis on providing a friendly, safe environment for children you'd think they'd go with more WoW-like specs to accommodate lower-end machines.
HARUMPH! Only wealthy children toy with Legos.

That's one of the reasons I don't think the game will go off, or keep the "baby-safe" facade going. Since there's not too many family computers that will be able to run this shit, I doubt there's going to be a lot of kids on it.

But who cares? I've got a beast of a laptop, and it ran just fine for beta.

I don't mean offense but this whole article seems to have been dragged out from a statement of "A lego brick in the Lego MMO has a higher polycount than a WoW Avatar." Very interesting. Is this statement a cloaked dig at WoW? I can't see any other reason than to make this statement.

What a tremendous waste of resources.
How is it might I ask?
It creates a massive drop in framerate and drastically raises the minimum requirements, all for the sake of making a simplistic component unnecessarily complicated.

Really? Huh. Gives me a new level of respect for the people that designed Lego Island back in the '90s.
