If you like the idea, and have near limitless money, you could take a run-of-the-mill chess board, mod it to be StarWars, and use the WotC "Starship Battles [http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/starshipbattles] collectable miniatures for the pieces. The limitless money part comes in because each box has random pieces, and one could spend a Bill Gates fortune trying to get the pieces, $22 per box.
(Or one could be smart and go to Paizo and order exactly what you want as singles [http://paizo.com/store/games/miniatures/tradableMiniaturesGames/starWars/starshipBattles]...)

Given that the Battle pieces are on sale at most of "The Works" (plug, plug) at 2 for a £1...

Oops my bad. It is based on the original. It was hard to tell from the pic and I couldn't get the site to load. When I read the first movie I figured it was ep 1. So where can I buy one and for how much?

Me too, I was like, "Hey wait a minute, why are there clones if this is based on Episode 1, and why are there Rebels and Luke and- Oh. I get it!"

Wording was definately confusing there. Regardless, that set is most awesome, although I get the feeling I would always mistake the Tusken Raiders for a knight and not a rook...
