That quitting your first Saturday job because you "couldn't be assed with it anymore" probably doesn't look good on a C.V.

*sigh*

don't bite off more than you can chew,
and learn to say no.
seriously, I once had around 15 art requests, 9 of which I never got done because I got too tangled up in schoolwork and lost all energy anf inspiration, sucky times, especially for the people who had to wait, even though they were free.

Always, fucking ALWAYS erase any history you have of visiting any pornsite and of downloading any porn pics/vids if you live with anyone who is your elder.

Jesus Christ, did I ever learn that shit the hard way. Twice.
This also applies if you've been looking at internet memes that are... unseemly.

I had to explain to my sister that pedobear was a joke. She didn't think it was as funny as I did.

She was most likely too old to understand Pedobear anyways.

Why yes, I did just say that. And yes, I am going to Hell.

Going to hell? Ah, come on. Don't you think that judgement is a little premature?

I'll be right there with you.

That I should have given myself more then one night to research Bill Robinson before giving a presentation on him tomorrow. Not as bad as my presentation on Sid Vicious though. I literally Googled him on my phone 15 minutes before I presented, and got an A.

Someone already posted it, but , 'Learn to say no.'

It's a serious one. I used to be a push-over and would say 'yes' to most anything from friends and family because I didn't want to disappoint them or seem like the bad guy who wont help. Some things are okay to say yes to, but mostly, not knowing how to say no put me in a lot of awkward, dramatic, and sometimes dangerous situations that I didn't need to be in and made my life far harder than it had to be. Sometimes, you just need to step back and let that person clean up their own damn mess.

Here's a fun pro-tip for you: If you ever feel like you have to throw up, don't try to sleep it off. Just go throw up.

The ending to THAT particular story ended with me sitting up in my bed, turning to face the wall, and projectile vomiting 7 feet, hitting the wall with vomit, and bursting every blood vessel in my face from the force of the vomiting.

I ended up spending HOURS cleaning vomit off of everything I own, buying a new carpet for my floor, and spending the next few days looking like a zombie, since I burst the blood vessels in my eyes, turning them blood-red. Oh, and since I burst the blood vessels in my face, it looked like I had a flesh-eating disease.

never expect anything to be simple or to go well, a simple trip to the toilet can result in an agonising expedition half way across town to acquire the mythical treasure that has been named as, toilet paper.

Oh and always buy a lot of toilet paper.

Just because you have money doesn't mean you need to spend it.
I suffer from this, as soon as I get money, I spend it on something (usually a book, so I suppose I could be spending money on worse items, but still).

Also, this is a pretty big one, but don't invest every ounce of your happiness in someone you love, because I was engaged, and now I'm not, and it's taken too long to find anything that resembles happiness. Share your happiness with your partner, don't place it all into them and don't rely on them for everything, most importantly, your happiness and well being because nothing is concrete when it comes to love, something can and probably will happen.

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

And, err, if a dev studio you like went through an acquisition recently, don't preorder.

1) Sometimes what sounds erotic and kinky is not. Ice, maple syrup, bengay... Don't.

2) Sometimes if you want to be around people you actually have to invite them over. I just learned this one. Might explain why my family hasn't visited me once in 4 years since I started college, despite being a 25min drive away. :-/

3) It's your duty as a human being to try hard, to be kind, to be strong, and to be understanding.

4) Learn to manage your time.

5) Take your health seriously. Eat right, learn to cook, and if you do ANY weight lifting at all - practice your form and strengthen your core. Especially men. Your back is not invincible, despite what your teens may tell you.

7) Maturity and responsibility make you feel better at the end of the day than pettiness and shifting blame. Shifting blame tends to build upon itself until you either blame everybody or get overburdened with guilt.

8) Real achievements are always EARNED through hard work and dedication. Nothing ever came easy to anybody worth knowing. Great things come with great effort.

Never trust a meth addict.
Learned this after giving my dad second chance after second chance and finally giving up on him at 14.
Oh and don't have a meth lab with kids in the house.
Dozens of cops busting in your house and taking away your dad when you're 3 years old will fuck you up.
I think the OP meant more non-obvious lessons, not "tell your sad story in the form of realizing something that was obvious to everyone but the person experiencing it". For example: I learned that the sooner you start carving out your own personality the more comfortable people will be with your quirks.
